Newcastle Closing In On Top Striker

There’s report out today that newcatsle are working hard to close the deal for PSG Turkish striker Mevlut Erdinc.

Mevlut Erdinc – PSG’s Turkish striker

There was a high level meeting at Newcastle on transfer son Tuesday and we would expect some movement to be made for certain targets this week, so we have to hope this news is true.

Erdinc’s agent came out earlier this week and said any player in France would love to sign for Newcastle, so that was good news, although one barrier could be the £10M price tag the French club have placed on their 24 year-old striker

The reports are that Newcastle feel that Erdinc’s style of play would complement that of new Senegal striker Demba Ba, a free agent who was signed by Newcastle United last Friday.

The Turkish international has had an excellent season in France for PSG, and in the last two seasons since signing from Sochaux in the summer of 2009, the Turkish International has played 70 times for PSG with 28 goals.

Newcastle are a highly regarded club in France, and reports there today suggest that Newcastle are in the lead for the Turkish striker, and a deal could be announced within the next few days.

We hope so.

I’d prefer Sturridge but I’ve got faith in Graham Carr, its one of his picks I’m sure he’ll be class.

To be honest Erding is far from ‘top striker’. Its just a gamble and hope he does well for us.

Anyway based on skybets, we are still the favorites to land Sturridge and Taraabt.

I wouldn’t pay attention to betting odds guys.

That’s where the ludicrous Barton to Arsenal rumor came from.

Not to mention they had us signing every player Pardew has ever worked with!

Erding, Sturridge (On loan, view to buy), Bangura and Teteh in as forwards, with Barnetta, N. Taylor and Matuidi in. Lovenkrands, Shola, Best, Ranger, and Barton out.
New left back in, and perhaps right back, and we’re sorted.

That would mean Ranger and Bests leaving then. to leave us with a strike force off:

    Erding
    Ba
    Shola
    Lovenkrands
    Two Banguras.

6 strikers is too much. But im not complaining

Agree with most on here – this is a ‘chancer’ who is being replaced by our initial target.

Lets not mess about and get Sturridge in AND then imagine our joy when he takes Carroll’s number 9 for England!

Come on Ash – he is there for the taking!

We should be going all out to sign Sturridge permanently if possible. We know the market values for our domestic league are inflated but the guy wants first team football for a big club, something which he wouldn’t be guaranteed even at clubs like Spurs and Liverpool. He certqinly looks the business and as we know MA loves a gamble, I think we should gamble on sturridge rather than a £10m France-based Turk who has it all to prove. The fans need a talismanic goalscoring hero to hang their hopes on and I reckon Sturridge is the boy – the only reservation I would have on a loan deal which has been mooted, is that at the end of it, he would likely be way out of price bracket.

I’d be happy enough to get Erdinc – but
    Is he a 20-goal a season man?
Is he a No. 9 in the NUFC tradition?
Is he a Marquee signing? Or just a Tent (ative) signing?
    Sturridge for me.
    As well, of course.

I’d be fairly surprised if most on here have ever seen Erding play.

He’s not really a ‘top striker’ is he, else Newcastle wouldn’t be in the running lol.

I’d much rather someone English, but I think any talk of Sturridge is pure fantasy. Can’t see Ashley shelling out 15m+, nor can I see AVB selling their most promising youngster as soon as he takes over.

    Bonjour messieurs.

    Erding’s agent statement:

« N’importe quel joueur en France aimerait venir à Newcastle, c’est un club absolument fantastique. Tous les Français qui sont allés à Newcastle sont très enthousiastes à propos du club mais aussi du public. Newcastle a une place dans les cœurs du football français. De grands joueurs comme Laurent Robert ou David Ginola ont joué là-bas et ont aimé cela, et les supporters les aimaient aussi. Bien sûr que tout joueur français serait intéressé par Newcastle ».

    And some Google translation:

“Any player would like to come to France to Newcastle, a club is absolutely fantastic. All the French who went to Newcastle are very excited about the club but also the public. Newcastle has a place in the hearts of French football. Great players like Laurent Robert and David Ginola played there and loved it, and fans loved them too. Of course any French player would be interested in Newcastle “

Linking Hughton with ever Newcastle player is such lazy journalism.

It’s no different to the ones linking Pardew with Cole, Konchesky etc…

Another come and get me plea from zog. It is obvious to me he wants to come here, he fits the profile and would fit into the way AP wants us playing. Club doing what is right for us as the longer they wait the less he will cost. Hopefully we get him in before first game of the season but he’ll slot in a lot easier than the other foreign lads as he knows the club, the fans and the people so will need no time getting used to it. Thing is his value will probably drop to about £6-7m by the end of the window which would leave us in a stronger financial position. Not that we need the extra money in the short term, in the long term it could be beneficial to the club, covering costs etc.
