Five New Players Already In For Next Season

It seems that Newcastle’s Hatem Ben Arfa is quite a persuasive guy, when it comes to getting his pals to sign on at Newcastle.

Sylvain Marveaux – surprise signing by Newcastle

Ben Arfa started the season on loan at Newcastle, from Marseilles, last August. but he then suffered that horrific double leg fracture against Manchester City in early October, and the French International still hasn’t played for Newcastle since that time.

But the serious injury didn’t prevent Newcastle from signing the French International on a permanent basis in January, and that was a brave and risky move by Newcastle.

But it would also have given Ben Arfa a huge lift, that the Tyneside club really believed in him, even though he was still recovering from that very serious injury.

Last Saturday morning, Newcastle shocked everybody when they announced the signing of Sylvain Marveaux from Rennes, when we all thought he was about to sign for Liverpool.

Sylvain signed a five-year contract at St. James’ Park, and it’s coming to light today he had many talks with Ben Arfa, when both were recovering at the Clairefontaine Football Academy in France from their injuries.

Well, whatever Ben Arfa told him in France, the 25 year-old Saint Etienne player was still about to sign for Liverpool.

Short note to Alan Pardew – Ben Arfa still needs more lessons on the Newcastle’s great history Alan.

But then of course when Liverpool hesitated  (he who hesitates is lost is appropriate here), the Magpies came in for him last Friday night like greased lightning, and Sylvain already knew all about the Tyneside club, and was more than keen to do the deal – which he did and quickly too

The deal was done and dusted by 2:00 am on Saturday morning, and it was terrific work by the club, and it also provided a huge lift for Newcastle fans around the world, as we were still more than upbeat about the signing of Demba Ba on the previous day.

Sylvain spoke to Newcastle United TV (nufcTV):

“I saw him and spoke with him about Newcastle.” “He told me that he was very happy to be here and he told me about the fans, everyone at the club, the stadium.”

“It was a good thing.” “I’m very happy to be here with Hatem and Yohan, because I know them very well.” “We can speak in French – so for the adaptation it is good.”

“I’m fit and I can’t wait until the start of the pre-season.”

Sylvain is now fully recovered from the groin injury that kept him out of action from last October, and so too are two of Newcastle’s long term injured players from last season – Ben Arfa and Dan Gosling.

When pre-season starts, Newcastle will have at least have five new players already in Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba, Sylvain Marveaux, Dan Gosling and Ben Arfa.

And if we are to believe the news recently, Swansea’s Neil Taylor and PSG Turkish striker Mevlut Erdinc could also be through the door at Newcastle  before a week come Monday, when pre-training kicks off.

The transfer season has been very good for Newcastle so far, but we need another new signing soon, because after all it’s been over six days since our last signing – come on lads get going.

Howay The Lads!!

    Nice Article.
Ben-Arfa is having a massive influence on transfers, and will have a little bit more influence on following transfers.

I can see N’Zogbia, Erdinc, N.Taylor and maybe this Matuidi who we seemed to be linked with I cant see Sturridge even thou I REALLY want him maybe a loan in place for him Ben Arfa and Gosling going be new signings so a think we will get at least another 3/4 and maybe a daft loan for depth.

What about the kid “Abeid” or something who was quoted as signing (or going to sign on the 1st July)?
    That is six.
Still need replacement for Carol, LB, RB, and another right winger to complete.
As well as replacements for any who leave.
Virtually a new team………hope the pre season goes well so we can hit the ground running vs the arse and scum .

I heard somewhere that Sylvain Marveaux was going to sign for Livershite but left his pen in his car. He went out to get his pen from the car and saw the car was on bricks without the wheels! Needless to say he didnt sign and flew up to the toon to sign for us. Might not be true but a good story anyway.
On the subject of financial stability, if the Zog wants to come to the toon I would have A.P talk to him ( I believe this is possible with only a year left on his contract ) and agree for him to come in January. That way his price will have dropped to less than half there bye costing the club less money which would be available for more signings. Or just tell Charlie to refuse a new contract and not talk to other clubs and he will be back at the toon in January.. SIMPLES.

Thanks for mentioning Abeid. I would say 95% of people here, including Ed, keep forgetting him.

Please do not forget Moyo too. I remember Moyo is a winger too and he could learn more from Marveaux.

Bradden Inman is a potential shout too.

We have a load of quick midfielders now. I would say we do not need to buy anymore midfielders, with the exception of Matuidi.

Still need a new no. 9, a center back and a few widebacks.

while i agree having HBA and Gosling back in the frame is like 2 new signings and is great for the squad i cant help but fear that the fat man is of the same view but only on a financial side…”thats 8-9 mill of the lanky hairy fellas fee a can stick in the bank” he’ll be thinking. Good signings we may have made for very little but their aint that many of them about and investment on the playing side will have to be made and not just making us more sellable to a prospective buyer i IMO

    I don’t believe he’s officially signed yet.
He’s saying he is a NUFC player.

I’m not sure of the technicalities of why he hasn’t signed officially yet but it seems to be 99.9% certain.

He’s supposed to play in as a second striker and is very, very fast and full of tricks!

    Sounds good to me!

Zog & Sturridge please Mr Ashley!

Hamburg confirm contact with Basel over Xherdan Shaqiri.
Valued at around 8M Euros, well id think he would choose us over HSV and we could outbid them Xheridan is one of the most promising wingers in the game getting him for under £9M is a bargain.
Get him and utility man Barnetta 🙂

Basel want 9 million pounds for Shaqiri. And Roma and Hamburg are interested. i highly doubt we will be in for Shaqiri as our scouts have targetted France this window. We have set a foothold in all our targets in France.

Shaqiri won’t be coming. Period. All or most of our signings will be from France.

Play him and Tiote as holding mid-fielders away from home.

Hi Gorskino, yes I was talking about Abeid.

    Going French is genius.

The French leagues produce lots of talent, plus all the French speaking African nations, including the almost French Moroccans & Algerians.

Moyo & Abeid might be the first of many Arab French.
    They sound like real finds.

Surely Stoke don’t have a chance to sign Sturridge for 6M! If they do we are fools for not putting in a bid. I would rate him up there with Shaqiri. Why not bid 8M for Sturridge as a starting point to show we are serious. We can afford 60K a week for him as a wage although 50K as a starting point in negotiations. This would demonstrate real ambition from Ashley. I would rather go for Sturridge than Erdinc.

If we can get sturridge at around £10m im sure we can afford his wages with the offload of players. Sol would have been paid a fair amount i reckon, xisco does fuck all, alan smith. it’ll be worth it. If niot i think we’d be foolds not to pursue loan deal for him. We get to assess whether the investment is worth it without committing to much. And if it doesnt work out im sure he will have contributed something to the team. He did well at Bolton so there is nothing to say he wont at Newcastle

@Thump I can only guess that the club don’t think that there is an interest for signings at that level.

Sturridge is the type of player to be a Newcastle No9.

Erdinç might be but he’s untested in the EPL.

Ashley got 35M for our No9.

    Please spend 20M replacing him.

How f###### reasonable is that !?

Cool, Yeah as a holding player he seems like he could advance to with some nice skill.
I HATE using this reference but VERY highly rated on FM11 at Lens, Higher than Alexandre Coeff (I believe) who i thought was incredibly talented.
Also Thorgan Hazard, Lens have a nack of producing very good youngsters and him being on of the better ones is a good thing 🙂

Most everyone knew it from the get go but I was spot on in my posts at the time that Pards was Ashley’s “yes man” and CH was seen out the door for a reason (refusing to be a floormat for Ashley & llambias).

Thereafter, my predictions re: player departures was spot on too… After CH was given his marching orders I predicted Ashley would sell Carroll (which he promptly did) and thereafter that there would be a stream of player departures. It just didn’t happen as fast as I’d imagined…

Nolan & Pards effectively held the team together for the balance of the season (btw – I for one believe the story reported that Nolan was promised ample reward if he kept the peace in the lockerroom after both the departure of CH and sale of Carroll… his support was crucial in those periods as Pards was just too new and needed Nolan to serve as his righthandman… I can well believe he was promised something and now feels letdown now at the end of it but that’s just Ashley for you!)

Now that Pards has settled in with a decent finish to the ’10-’11 campaign under his belt Ashley feels comfortable putting his reorg into full effect… Nolan, Campbell & Kuqi – out, Jose, Barton & Jonas all likely out… Collo, Perch & Smith maybe out too…we are very likely going to have a very different looking squad next season.

That said we have brought in some impressive talent so here’s hoping the new squad gels quickly and the remaining squad feel no resentment towards mgm’t or Pards and happy on the Toon!

Will watch with great anticipation to see who we bring in during the remainder of the window!

I hope Ferguson, Vukic and Abeid get some chances during the season.

Hopefully as substitutes because the starting eleven are unbeatable. 🙂

Apparently, Stoke City have tabled an offer of £6m for Daniel Sturridge. I really hope this will push Newcastle into making an offer and then signing him, we can offer him first team football which is what he is saying he wants, either at Chelsea or somewhere else, he had also said that he doesn’t want to go out on loan again, so that should be Bolton out. Just wanted to throw it out there so people know.

I think it’s a majority of blog readers who would put Sturridge top of their possibly attainable strikers list.

Hard to think of a reason any NUFC supporter wouldn’t want him.

However if Mr Ashley decided to buy Sturridge as our No2 striker I wouldn’t mind that either :-):-):-)
