Stoke Bid £6M For Sturridge – Newcastle Interested

The Daily Mirror is reporting tonight that Stoke City have opened the bidding for Chelsea’s 21 year-old England U21 striker Daniel Sturridge.

Daniel Sturridge – Newcastle now interested in this player?

It has been assumed, with so much fire-power at Chelsea, that Daniel Sturridge would have to move on to get first team action in the Premier League next season.

And the lad himself has made it clear that he wants to be playing first team football next seaosn, and we’re sure there will be a number of Premier League clubs interested in this player.

Daniel was outstanding for Bolton Wanderers this year, and scored a good 8 goals in just just 12 appearances for Bolton, who did not have a good finish to the season, and  there is news tonight that Newcastle have become interested in Sturridge.

It would appear there are a number of things the Magpies can offer the 21 year-old – not least of which is a lot of playing time at Newcastle, a first team starting position and even the famous number 9 Newcastle jersey.

Newcastle have the money to make a good bid to Chelsea for the player, and they could also offer him an attractive long term five year contract up front.

But the big news tonight is the bidding for th player has started and Stoke City have officially tabled a £6M offer.

Chelsea may want to keep Sturridge and we don’t know what the appointment of new manager André Villas-Boas will mean – whether it increases the chances of Daniel being sold or not.

This is what the 21 year-old had said recently:

“Next season I want a starting place at Chelsea and maybe to get into the full England side as well,”

“From there, I just want to try and win as many trophies as I can.”

Newcastle are supposedly after PSG striker Mevlut Erdinc, so we really don’t know whether they would also be interested in bringing Sturridge to Newcastle, since Newcastle have already brought in Senegal free agent striker, Demba Ba.

We would hope this report in the Daily Mirror has some truth in it, because we think this lad would be just great on Tyneside.

What do you think?

Its bloody common sense to put in a bid for Sturridge. If we don’t and he goes to Stoke for less then 10 million then NUFC have missed out big time. If i was in Ashley’s position, a ten million pound bid would have been put in straight after the Stoke bid.

If Stoke believe 6m is enough surely we would just bid 6 as well and let the club sell itself over Stoke? Why waste extra money trying to outbid them? If it was Spurs or someone like that that then yeah but surely we are more of a pull than Stoke

  • Why 10 million? When 7 is more than 6.

    Yes!

    We Want Sturridge !!!

Anything less than 35M and Mr Ashley is in profit in exchanging No9’s.

52,000 people attending, plus countless other fans who are paying good money supporting the club deserve to get a No9 to get them out of their seats.

    We Want Sturridge !!!

Don’t you dare pocket that Andy Carroll money.

Can you tell me what you mean by “venez sur le gars”? For, there’s maybe some risk of incomprehension if you tell that to a french guy….

I don’t get the over inflated price for Sturridge! If he is as good as we think he is then surely Chelsea would keep a hold of him? He might be good but done nothing so far other a than loan spell at Bolton to warrant such a huge price tag. If he was French he would sign for about 5 million not triple that all because he is English.

I’d say NUFC enter the bidding and drive the price up as high as possible. Either NUFC get him within a club determined price range, or have made another team poorer and less competitive to buy others the Toon may want.
Sturridge likely would have to be on a salary that fits with the club policy. Too much salary difference and the locker room can go sour.

6 million is a joke. NUFC needs to bid 10 million to show Chelsea AND Sturridge that they are serious.

Sturridge has got to be the one of the most improved young players. I seem to remeber him being very poor at Man city,i even wondered why Chelsea paid that tribunal fee. I guess training with world class strikers like Drogba, Shevy and Anelka helps because he’s turned into a very very good striker. (I doubt Davies and Elmander have taught him anything LOL)

Ben arfa is an idol in france since is 12 year old. Since a famous film about Clairefontaine academy.

Many people are believing in him, others think he’s a media’s product.

Everybody generally agree he still have to prove himself as a great player. Me too. So why did i believe in him?

Just because i’ve watch him play, again and again. He ‘s a very frustrating guy, for much of the time, he vanish, like if he was not willing to play.

    But when he’s focused…

He got everything. Ball control, shot, pass on the ground, pass on the air, freekicks, acceleration, gamesight, creativity…

When he got the ball at the middle line, you can never know. He can pierce the defence with a master pass, kind of you will have called impossible one second before, he can advance and deliver a missil a 30 m, straight on the net, he can eliminat 3 or 4 guy, entering the surface and score after dodging the GK like a matador…

He got all the quality, but not just as a polyvalent player, he’s the BEST on everything.

To be honest, it’s just unfair for others.

And he got this very specific personality. The pride of a champions. Some will say him hot headed. That’s true.
But his young, and he’s a smart guy, so i believe, he will imporve himself: once his temper under control, it will be not a weakness, but rather his greatest strength.
And in fact, he have already do it. His last season with Marseille, he was really more applicated at work. But his bad reputation have prevent him to play the world cup. Anyway he was really more regular. In fact, i was almost sure last season with Newcastle should have been his great one. You konw what have happen…

I’m like everybody else. I fear he can never got back his shot or his speed. We will see that. But i still believe he can be the great champion France need. And sure Newcastle too!

@ Niafron .. thank you very much .. very interesting. Do you think that NUFC were able to sign him because teams like Arsenal / liverpool – is he good enough for Man Utd, were worried about his personality? .. if they did not sign him, i am worried that he may play well only 1 game in 4 games .. why do you think NUFC were able to sign him?

What boils my piss is that in January, when Lpool wouldn’t sell Torres to Chelsea until they had bagged Carroll, NUFC were holding all the aces. A quick phone call to CFC, saying we will do business with Liverpool as long as we can have Sturridge on loan with a fixed say £7M in the summer (if we still wanted him) and we would have had the best young striker in England.
Instead, he goes to effing Bolton. And then scores against us.
We missed out big time there.
