The Daily Mirror is reporting tonight that Stoke City have opened the bidding for Chelsea’s 21 year-old England U21 striker Daniel Sturridge.
Daniel Sturridge – Newcastle now interested in this player?
It has been assumed, with so much fire-power at Chelsea, that Daniel Sturridge would have to move on to get first team action in the Premier League next season.
And the lad himself has made it clear that he wants to be playing first team football next seaosn, and we’re sure there will be a number of Premier League clubs interested in this player.
Daniel was outstanding for Bolton Wanderers this year, and scored a good 8 goals in just just 12 appearances for Bolton, who did not have a good finish to the season, and there is news tonight that Newcastle have become interested in Sturridge.
It would appear there are a number of things the Magpies can offer the 21 year-old – not least of which is a lot of playing time at Newcastle, a first team starting position and even the famous number 9 Newcastle jersey.
Newcastle have the money to make a good bid to Chelsea for the player, and they could also offer him an attractive long term five year contract up front.
But the big news tonight is the bidding for th player has started and Stoke City have officially tabled a £6M offer.
Chelsea may want to keep Sturridge and we don’t know what the appointment of new manager André Villas-Boas will mean – whether it increases the chances of Daniel being sold or not.
This is what the 21 year-old had said recently:
“Next season I want a starting place at Chelsea and maybe to get into the full England side as well,”
“From there, I just want to try and win as many trophies as I can.”
Newcastle are supposedly after PSG striker Mevlut Erdinc, so we really don’t know whether they would also be interested in bringing Sturridge to Newcastle, since Newcastle have already brought in Senegal free agent striker, Demba Ba.
We would hope this report in the Daily Mirror has some truth in it, because we think this lad would be just great on Tyneside.
What do you think?
