Chris Hughton Eyes Two Newcastle Players

It’s hardly surprising that new Birmingham manager Chris Hughton will be looking to take some Newcastle players to Birmingham this summer.

Leon Best – Birmingham interested

Skysports is reporting today that Chris Hughton is lining up two of his former players, Leon Best and Wayne Routledge.

Both players are on the transfer list for around £5.5M in total this summer – £4M for Best and around £1.5M for Routledge, and both lads are very good Championship players, of course, .

And it was Hughton who signed both players a year last January, to help Newcastle to gain promotion out of the Championship last year, which they attained in the end with some points to spare, and indeed finished 32 points above 3rd placed Nottingham Forest.

Ireland International striker Best joined Newcastle from Coventry City in early 2010, and scored six goals in 11 Premier League appearances this year for Newcastle, and he did a good job standing in for the departed Andy Carroll.

Routledge joined Newcastle from QPR, at the same time as Best, and he has been out on loan at QPR this year, where he played 19 times with 5 goals for the London side who won the Championship.

The two players would seem to be good signings for Birmingham City.

What do you think?

    We need to keep Best!!!
Routledge simply is not good enough for the premiership so would not loose any sleep if he were to leave, but Best has great movement and has shown that he can score in the toughest league in the world

Both have proved they can ‘do a job’ in the fizzy pop league. Houghton will have to offload some more of his playing staff first. I’d expect him to come back at the end of the transfer window trying to pick up a few loanees as well. I could see Perch and one or two ‘youngsters’ heading to the midlands at that point…

Thought we had at least 2 players in the north east this week, so something must be happening with them soon surely. Think it’s about time we made some sort of official approach for Sturridge before we miss out.

wouldnt be suprised to see hoots in for a few more players from us.. Best/Routy/Smith/Guthrie/Raylor/Lovenkrands maybe even Kadar/Vuckic/Fergie all on loan
also think he’l get Campbell and wouldnt be suprised to see him move for Harper if foster leaves and if its true hes on list of possible movers

We should let Birmingham have the following players

    1) Perch (very experienced championship player)

    2) Ryan Taylor (will score many freekicks in the lower league)

    3) Alan Smith (Passionate leader who makes good sliding tackles)

    4) Shola Ameobi (Proven that he can score goals in the championship)

    5) Xisco (Maybe playing in another league can be a turning point in his career)

    6) Guthrie (We will loan Guthrie to Birmingham if they take the above 5 players mentioned).

    =)

a believe our board should be doing anything they possibly can to help hoots get bham promoted for the way they treat him during his tenure we should just loan them our best youngsters tht wont play much and need experience such as Kadar nd Vuckic and possibly even give them Fergie till january cos we seem to be buying a few wingers

G-Man – a still believe if we went in for Boudebouz he would come to us as he said before he would choose us over liverpool because of first team chances so maybe thts why hes staying he’ll probz stay because he doesnt want to go to liverpool?

Is it just me gets very annoyed reading all this “take this player, take that player” bravado??

You all seem so hell bent on getting rid of players who are perfectly capable of stepping in if the new signings don’t make the grade or recover from serious injuries, which may well be the case.

It’s real life not FIFA PS yee bunch of ingrates. Routledge played well in the Villa 6-0 and was a lot of people’s MOTM against Chelsea in the 1-1 home draw. It’s a squad game and our first team isn’t even sorted out yet.
