News in the local Sunday Sun today that both Newcastle and Sunderland will be stepping up their efforts to sign former Newcastle winger Charles N’Zogbia.
Charles N’Zogbia – becoming too expensive?
But the Sunday Sun is now reporting that Liverpool are now favorites to sign the winger, as owner Dave Whelan has put it out that N’Zogbia is now available for £9M, even though he has just one year left on his contract at the DW Stadium.
N’Zogbia’s wage demands are said to be around £60K a week, and that along with the high £9M asking price, could have Newcastle looking elsewhere to bring in another winger this summer.
But the fact is that the local Newcastle press is hardly consistent, at least when it comes to Charles N’Zogbia this summer.
Only last week it was being reported that Newcastle would be in for the player, and that his wages were not a problem – so it’s hard to know which reports to believe.
If we are to believe this report, then Liverpool are now favorites for the French International, and are ahead of both Newcastle and Sunderland, who are also interested in capturing the player.
We keep hearing from an inside source in the N’Zogbia camp saying he wants to come back to Newcastle, because he has a point to prove.
And of course he left the Magpies under a cloud after an argument with then manager Joe Kinnear, who mistakenly called him N’Somnia, but we suppose Newcastle could indeed be priced out of a move for the former Le Havre player.
We reported yesterday on Newcastle’s potential interest in Preston’s Ireland International winger, Keith Treacy, who would be a much cheaper alternative at just £1.5M and much lower wages than Charles,
But there again, Treacy is not an established Premier League player, so there’s a risk in making that move as well.
It’s hard to know what to think about the situation with Charles, with all the many different reports coming out, which are saying different things – so what’s new?
What do you think?
