Newcastle Close In With £6.5M Offer For Mevlut Erdinc

The Daily Star is reporting this Sunday, that Newcastle are closing in with a new £6.5M offer for Paris St. Germain Turkish International striker Mevlut Erdinc.

Mevlut Erdinc – Newcastle launch £6.5M bid

Newcastle have been after the French-born Turkish international, for over a year now, and reports in the local Newcastle media have suggested this week that Newcastle have been trying to negotiate a deal with PSG.

PSG paid Sochaux £8M for Erdinc two years ago, and would presumably want their money back from a Newcastle bid.

But it seems the Magpies are trying to drive a hard bargain (surprise, surprise), and went in with an initial £5M bid, which has been raised to £6.5M.

The French media are suggesting PSG are likely to meet Newcastle halfway in their valuation (£5M – £8M) – hence the £6.5M second bid.

PSG beat out Newcastle in the £10M transfer of Lorient’s French International striker Kevin Gameiro – because the player did not want to play in England and preferred a move to either to either  Spain or to stay in France, which is what he ended up doing.

But the irony in that it is Kevin’s arrival in Paris that has paved the way for Erdinc’s transfer to Newcastle, and if the deal is completed it will be the second striker Newcastle have brought in this summer.

Senegal striker Demba Ba was signed 9 days ago as a free agent from previous club West Ham United.

If Newcastle can land Erdinc and Swansea City’s Neil Taylor also signs in the next few days, for a total of £7.5M for the two, they would be two more good signings for the club.

Comments welcome.

Churning them is right, can hardly keep up with the comments on the other pages.. Ashley is playing a smart game and getting more bang from his buck and if he keeps it up with these hard bargains we’ll have the best transfer in our history and spent the AC money. By the way, (as long as the money is spent) I have to say that deal with Liverfool for Judas has been the best piece of business Ever! With his sell alone we can transform a team worthy of a great cup run and finish in a European position by the end of the season. I will be happy if we get Erdinc for that sort of money, but if it does go higher and towards the 10m bracket I’d rather test the waters of Chelsea for Sturridge.

Atleast put a take it or leave it transfer in for Sturridge.
I mean, i like this whole french team thing but you have to get the best talent when its there. Sturridge is a power house. This guy seems decent.
Just let us know that you tried for Sturridge and cant get him. This signing would just shatter my dreams of sturridge. Nothing special and we need a special #9

I think Newcastle United will not spend the 35 million pounds in the transfer windown. They are trying to save money and reduce the players`wages. I agree with this policy. the fact that something is cheap does not necessarily mean it is of low quality and it sometimes happens in football too. Good luck Alan Pardew.

Ameobi’s ratio isn’t based on starts its based on sub appearances aswell. The lad is decent enough to make the bench and every manager that comes in rates him highly enough to give him a place on the team, so he can’t be that bad. If you based his ratio on how many goals he scores against Scumderland it speaks for itself. And the added bonus is that he is a Geordie.

Be patient people. The money transfers will happen after the 1st of July. Ashley & Co will pay up this time round. I’ve feared many times in the past about him, but he’s really turning it around and making us a well runned team and he may get the last laugh in after all the naysayers. It was never going to be done overnight. I believe in G Carr and since Ashley made the decision to bring him on board that is what’s been the difference.

I am not the best fan of Ameobi’s, but I also don’t think he’s THAT bad. It’s not just about scoring. It’s his loyalty. In fact, he’s not that expensive either, right? He started with us a long time ago and he’s still around. You may think he’s crap, but he’s really a bench warmer and a squad player *at least*.

Besides, his stay would be healthy for the young players too, in regards of teaching them of the loyalty. His staying would help Sammi too.

    GeordieGerman@

Yeah easilly 🙂 or Id like to see Airey make a name of himself, over players like Strolla.

True Gonz BUT only reason they keep him is because he is an inigma, he CAN sometimes cause problems.
And its always a plan B with strolla, with hoofing it up to him and hope he does something.

Im patient with who we are buying but tbh there is reason why Gamiero is at PSG and thats to REPLACE Erdinc because he doesnt score if he is a reject of PSG, and this shows in his price tag (IF) it is around 6/7M
Why are we making do with Erdinc there is MANY better strikers we could go for?

    Maybe its just paper rubbish.

    @ Pizzicatochan,

I never said he was crap. I rate him as a decent striker. I’m an Ameobi fan. I like that he’s a Geordie playing for his hometown club and has never wanted to leave. He is only good enough for the bench though. And I hope he retires at Newcastle having won something.

Anyone understand all this 5hit with Neil Taylors clause in his contract because I dont. Surely it is a load of bull. So 1 million allows you to speak to him? So you pay one million just to talk to the lad and then decide you don’t agree him so swansea pocket 1 million? I don’t get it at all. If its a release clause then surely its triggers his bloody release?

I actually think Erding could do the job here in the premiership. He suits the EPL. But, I think we should still go for Sturridge, for me he should be the main target for NUFC!

I couldn’t care less about big money signings or how much of the £35M invested, as long as we’re getting the quality that we need. I’ll go for bargain deals all day long as long as they’re anything like Ben Arfa, Ba, Tiote etc. Also, don’t know about you, but I’d prefer an unknown player (to me), just to surprise me a bit next season…

Watch French football alot, watched 9 full PSG games and seen highlights of all others last season, and gota say although Erdinc isn’t exactly prolific, he gets about 1 in 4 games, he adds much more than that to the team in his overall play. I would describe him as a much more skillful Kevin Davies. He has a mixture of good one on one finishing, and good shooting from outside the box. However, hes not one of those strikers who are in the right place at the right time. He never gets instinctive tap ins. He can hold the ball up similar to Davies, and his major plus for me is hes such a presence in the box, he drags and shoves defenders out of position to create acres of room for our other attacking players to use. But hes quite pacey, and gets by defenders using his pace and shear strength rather than stepovers and flicks.

I reckon if we got him for 6.5M we’d be getting another bargain, and if hes used as a battering ram for Ba, and i’m praying everynight for Sturridge and N’Zogbia to play off too, he could be a great buy.
