The Daily Star is reporting this Sunday, that Newcastle are closing in with a new £6.5M offer for Paris St. Germain Turkish International striker Mevlut Erdinc.
Mevlut Erdinc – Newcastle launch £6.5M bid
Newcastle have been after the French-born Turkish international, for over a year now, and reports in the local Newcastle media have suggested this week that Newcastle have been trying to negotiate a deal with PSG.
PSG paid Sochaux £8M for Erdinc two years ago, and would presumably want their money back from a Newcastle bid.
But it seems the Magpies are trying to drive a hard bargain (surprise, surprise), and went in with an initial £5M bid, which has been raised to £6.5M.
The French media are suggesting PSG are likely to meet Newcastle halfway in their valuation (£5M – £8M) – hence the £6.5M second bid.
PSG beat out Newcastle in the £10M transfer of Lorient’s French International striker Kevin Gameiro – because the player did not want to play in England and preferred a move to either to either Spain or to stay in France, which is what he ended up doing.
But the irony in that it is Kevin’s arrival in Paris that has paved the way for Erdinc’s transfer to Newcastle, and if the deal is completed it will be the second striker Newcastle have brought in this summer.
Senegal striker Demba Ba was signed 9 days ago as a free agent from previous club West Ham United.
If Newcastle can land Erdinc and Swansea City’s Neil Taylor also signs in the next few days, for a total of £7.5M for the two, they would be two more good signings for the club.
