Arsenal Could Go For Jose Enrique, If Clichy Leaves

There were reports over the weekend that Arsenal could be looking to sign Newcastle left-back Jose Enrique.

Jose Enrique – Arsenal may be interested

Jose is bring linked with Arsenal,  because their current  left-back Gael Clichy could be leaving Arsenal this summer.

There have been reports from Italy that Roma claim they are ready to offer a £20M, five-year contract for the French International left-back.

Clichy is the same age as Enrique, 25, and has been at Arsenal since 2003, and both players have just one year left on their contracts, and the news is that Liverpool have also put in a bid of £5M for the Arsenal defender.

That’s interesting,  because Liverpool had been favorites to sign Jose from Newcastle, but the Magpies have so far received no bids for the Spanish U21 International.

Clichy has played 264 times for the Gunners since 2003, with two goals.

Arsene Wenger is keen to keep the French International (10 caps) at the Emirates Stadium and had this to say about Clichy:

“We have started talks with Gael and want him to stay.”

It will take some sorting out this summer, and if Arsenal do lose Clichy, they could well come after Enrique.

And Liverpool still have to sign a top class left-back thus summer, and it’s possible Jose could move there too.

We just hope that Newcastle have their eyes  on a suitable replacement if Jose does move,  and the the club don’t sell Jose at the last minute in the transfer window, and then fail to  bring in a  replacement.

That’s a scenario Newcastle somehow managed to accomplish with Andy Carroll in January.

Liverpoo wanted Jose on the cheap, and see Clichy as a cheaper alternative.

It’s only between them two and hinges on what Clichy does really.

Dont think there was ever any legs on the Manure or Barca stories.

If Enrique leaves for Liverpool it will be a step sideways and I’d be p1ssed off. If he leaves for Arsenal I couldnt blame him as he wants champions league football.

Either way I just wish he would hurry up and say what he’s doing, sick of speculating lol.

Any player that doesn’t want to play for our club should be shipped out, Enrique is no exception.

NUFC are looking to dip back into the French market at Marseilles in an effort to tempt their Spanish under 21 star right back Cesar Azpilicueta to SJP to become #1 ahead of Danny Simpson and help keep Jose Enrique at the club ..

WHAT A PLAYER THIS KID IS.

also just read that gervinho talks have broke down with arsenal

Enrique taking too long to make the decision. We should make it for him. Sign a quality LB and tell jose to pick a club to go to. Sod him, he’s talking th p155 now.

Looks like gervinho will end up staying where he is, and the fans there are not exactly going to be warm towards him after he was so keen on leaving. Serves him right for messing nufc and afc around. Greedy get!

I fail to understand why Jose would want to join Liverpool rather than stay with us? It’s not like they’re in Europe, like us they are a team in transition and building for the future. Marveaux joined us over them so surely Jose should look at that as an indicator. If he went to any team with Champ League then I would not begrudge him that, he’s clearly good enough, but so far none of those teams have thrown their hat into the ring. The problem is that with Liverpool bidding so low for Cliche where does that leave our value of Jose?

We dont have much say in the matter Boom Boom, we’ve offered him a much better contract than what hes got now. Its all up to him whether he wants to stay or leave.

To be honest I’ve got to the point where I don’t care which it is anymore, just want it sorted.

If we show enough ambition in the transfer market, Enrique might stay. This could be the reason he is waiting. Or he could be waiting for the right offer to come along, don’t think he will go to Liverfool, especially seeing how they are towards Andy Carrol. He may realise that you are much more appreciated at Newcastle than at the bin dippers.

Wwjbd, depends which reports are believed, there were just as many saying arsenal and nufc in talks with agents, and about accepted bids, as there were about no one bidding at all. I’m of the opinion that bids were tabled, talks held, agreements made, then arsed around by the player at the last min. Might have happened that way or might not, I think it did.

I think its just a case of him waiting for a champions league team to come in for him. I think he decided around January that he was leaving this summer. He’s now just waiting for the right club.

I actually hope one comes in for him to be honest as even if he does stay for this season he won’t sign a new contract and will leave for nowt next summer.

My only worry is that if he does decide to leave, by the time he has made his decision we may have missed out on our first or even second choice replacement for his position.

Exactly toonfan! We should just give him an ultimatum. Say here, we’ve offered you a better contract, give him assurances of the quality of players coming in and then tell him to make his mind up, either sign up or get shipped out.

I don’t want a situation like with Judas where we sell him last day of the window then have to get a 36 year old free transfer left back as his cover as we missed our chance to sign someone in the window.

Markaccus am going off what the Lille president said which was that only Spurs had bid for him and it was turned down

The NUFC Gervinho talk came from fans and ITKs same with the AFC talk except a agent was involved.

Gervinho said nothing, the clubs said nothing and Lille said nothing

Boom Boom, if you believe the reports he wants to move to a champions league team, and as of yet none have came in for him.

If theres a confirmed bid from say, Arsenal, and he turns them down, then you can say he maybe wants to stay, but until then he’s just waiting on the right club in my eyes.

You may well be right but I don’t see why he would lie because he gains nothing out of it. Only reason to do it would be to attrack a bidding war so why not mention us or Arsenal?
I think the talk was just ITK bull crap and had no legs to it but that’s just me.

toonfan76 – reckon so n’all. To be honest we don’t know the real story – players are just coming back from holiday so it’s not like he’s messing anyone around – even though people keep saying that!!?

Liverpool will offer him an improvement on his wage, carry the prestige that he thinks will help him make the full spanish squad, and most importantly are investing big in the transfer market – as nuts as those fees have been.

He has earned the right to hold out and see whether or not Ashley will make good on promises to reinvest this summer – or just continue to pick up injured, free players.

Wwjbd, yes, could be like that too. Guess its one of those things where we will never know the truth, unless the club itself says ‘yes we did, or no we didn’t’ or ‘there were elephants offered’ or ‘santa claus agreed to give him an extra prezzie next xmas if he signed’. It certainly caused allot of heated debate!

    To be fair we could have a team of;
    ————-Krul—————-
    Simmo Taylor Collo Enrique
    ————Tiote—————-
    Dos Santos Cabaye Marveaux
    ————–Ben Arfa———
    ————BA——————

A team which in total cost around 31.8m, i’d rather have that and 3.2m still in my pocket than just carroll like haha i’m fairly sure they could beat him 🙂

I think if we brought in 2 more signings (Marque type) Sturridge and Matuidi or Nzogbia, then hemay see we are looking to improve our position and aim for Europe. THEN he might stay. Probably deluding myself and he’s just waiting for CL football.
