Have Liverpool Given Up On Jose Enrique?

News today that Liverpool manager is turning his attention to Manchester City left back Wayne Bridge.

Jose Enrique – which clubs are still interested?

Bridge is a decent player but has had a hard time of it getting first team games at Manchester City since he signed in January of 2009, and has also suffered many injuries while at Eastlands.

But he showed at West Ham that when he gets a decent run in a side, he’s still a good player, and it seems that Liverpool are now targeting the 35 times capped England International for their vacant left-back spot.

Liverpool were once after Jose Enrique, and then they went after Arsenal’s Gail Clichy, and may still be in for the French International should Clichy elect to leave the Emirates Stadium.

And of course there was news over the weekend that if Clichy does leave Arsenal, then manager Arsene Wenger may be interested in Jose Enrique, but there are still a few shoes to fall before we’ll know which – if any – clubs still remain interested in Enrique.

Of course one thing Newcastle do not want is for Enrique to be at Newcatsle come September but still refuse to sign a new deal at the club, which would allow Jose to become a free agent next summer, and he could leave for nothing.

Of course that’s also his legal right.

Our view on Jose is that if he wants to leave Newcastle he should, and he’s been a good and loyal player for four years at Newcastle, but it would also be good to get some money for him = to help bring in a replacement.

Comments welcome.

Lets hopr they have indeed pulled the plug on Enrique. Dont think i could stomach another Liverpool ‘swoop’ for one of our top players.

Dalglish and co need to do what the locals do; get themselves out and steal a few car stereos instead of stealing our playing squad.
Jokes aside, as much as José has messed the club about, I would still like to see him sign a new deal and stay. No matter who we bring in (and its not going to be 10m plus on a world class defender) then they arent going to be as good as José.

Course they would want him but they may just wait till he is a FREE, i would be sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo annoyed at Jose for leaving on a Free.

Problem is we just cannot keep out best players are everyone in our club has its price, Jose will go for a dirt cheap on Transfer Deadline Day and we will scramble to find a LB (IF) Taylor doesnt arrive. and if he does he isnt good enough to replace Jose.

I’m led to believe that the reason we have offered him a deal to make him virtually highest paid player at club is because the club has scouted the world and can’t find a lb in same league as Jose. Im also aware that man united are very keen and when evra was set to quit, they wanted Jose to replace him. Obviously evra is settled for now but I wouldn’t be surprised if things changed, that man u come back in for him. Maybe the club are prepared to let him go for nothing as then they would at least get another season out of Jose, giving us time to find a replacement or for him to change his mind?!

    ………………..Sturridge……………………
    …N’zogbia……HBA………….Menez…
    …………..Tiote…………Cabaye………….
    Enrique……Collo…Staylor……..Simmo
    ……………………..Krul…………………………..

    Subs: Harper,Barton,Jonas,Marvaeux,Ba,Routledge,Kadar,Tavernier….etcetc

    N’zogbia – £10mn (he wants to come back apparently…)
Menez – 12mn Euro would tempt Roma ( he might be tempted to join his mate HBA and the other frenchies.
Sturridge – £15mn (i think once Chelsea spend big on some more players they will feel more inlcined to let him go and i think !5mn is a fair price (maybe rising to 18mn depending on other things.

This would cost roughly £35mn which is what we should have in the bank… BUT if the Fat controller is being tight then he could sell Jonas and maybe Barton to save himself another £10mn or so….

I don’t think what I’ve written above is unreasonable…but I think FCB would

Let’s hope we can convince him into a new deal, after bringing in great talent, which shows our ambition. Also, Stoke have bid for Cameron Jerome from B’ham, so I guess they don’t expect to get Sturridge.

Since we have been linked with many midfielders, I would recommend 3-6-1 formation. Assume that Enrique and Barton leave with Matuidi and N’zogbia in

    ————————————Krul

    ————S.Taylor——Williamson—–Coloccini

    ———————–Tiote———–Matuidi

    ——————————-Cabaye

    N’zogbia——————-Ben arfa—————Marveaux

    ———————————-Ba

Anyone else a bit miffed we didn’t even compete for wickham? Before you all go on about cheaper to buy abroad.. there’s more to nufc than just sticking a whole load of newly imported players together and hope it all clicks.

We have the money to bid for young rising stars like Wickham, and Chamberlain- it’s a bit like Dyer situations, you pay more but they could form the basis of the team for years. If Zog goes to sunderland, Sturridge to Stoke and we just sit on our hands and look for knock down deals on players from overseas – whilst everyone is clapping about how much ‘money we’re – make that Ashley – is saving’.. I will weep.

Wahts the worst that can happen with Jose ( and this is the last time im going to say anything on this matter) We sell him get cash and buy a replacement….he decides to leave on a free end of next season…but as he is playing for a contract with any potential suitors plays his heart out…helping us in the process ( pretty much the way elmander did with bolton) just a thought!

    Eyeball out!

Does this get done at other clubs??
I don’t know, I would think all clubs are different when it comes to what income goes where there will be plenty other outgoings tho that need covered by revenues as well.

Whickham not gone anywhere yet, who knows we might be competing or might be waiting to see if bids are accepted before putting one in, no need to get miffed cos another team has apparently made a bid for someone.
Although i do think 13m for a player who has not as yet even got a U21 cap is a bit much and he would be as much of a risk (if not more) than going to buy a striker from abroad.

    @24 / 17

Just look at the HUGE holes you wave in the wingback positions, massive space for opponents to exploit with wing play, that system will pull your 3 defenders all over the place – leaving another hole wherever they move from.

3-6-1, 3-5-2, 3-4-3 formations would only be used if you were playing a very poor team, but even then your taking a huge gamble.

We have only just managed to work out how to just about defend with 4 players, dont confuse the situation.

    Well said Eyeball…

@ WWJBD – Teams don’t build teams around their left backs, but how many teams actually have a quality left back to stop all of these creative wide men?

Arsenal don’t want Clichy, he’s just not good enough for them yet…

United have locked Evra down as there is no replacement.

Ashley Cole is the only other DECENT LB I can think of almost on the planet that can defend well in the PL and he’s getting old…

We lose him, we lose a big part of the team that will be a pain in the backside to replace.

You need to keep your backline together for a bit once you have a decent set up.

Id prefer a formation…if its possible with two att-mid behind the striker… kind of a three pronged attack like so…

    —————BA—————-
    –Ben Arfa——N’zogbia—-

With Ba being used like a battering ram and the two att-mid running at the defence

    what you think?

    agreed.

Think of Arsenal in the Adams, Winterburn, Dixon and Bould.

They had a brilliant back four, but as soon as it was broken up, they have never managed to rebuild or replicate it.
