Alan Pardew seems to be happy enough with the way the squad is taking shape this summer.
Alan Pardew happy with the five players he’s signed this summer – five?
And Alan is right to say Newcastle looks to have five new players this summer, since Dan Gosling and Hatem Ben Arfa between them made a low 5 first team appearances last season.
And they will be just as new as Yohan Cabaye, Sylvain Marveaux and Demba Ba are next season for the side.
Both have now recovered from long-term and serious injuries, and it would be really great to see both youngsters do well next season. In fact if they both do well, then Newcastle will probably do very well too – and that would be terrific.
Newcastle fans are excited by the skills galore shown by the 24 year-old French Intentional, but Dan Gosling is also very highly rated at the club, and was more than a good player at Everton.
This is what Alan Pardew, who is preparing to welcome back the squad on American Independence day, had to say today:
“I am really pleased with the way the squad is taking shape. I’m excited.” “You could say we have got five new players who we didn’t have last year.”
“We have obviously lost Kevin Nolan, but we have gained Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba, Sylvain Marveaux – and then there is Hatem Ben Arfa and Dan Gosling.”
“Hatem could be the best signing if he stays fit all year, and we are looking forward to seeing what Dan can do as well.”
Alan is a positive and down-to-earth guy, and that no doubt will stand him in great stead, for what will be a challenging time as Newcastle manager, to say the least.
The 18 months Chris Hughton spent in the job on Tyneside, seems to have given him some great experience, and the way he handled his initial press conferences at Birmingham with such aplomb, he seemed to be so confident, and even appeared a seasoned pro at management.
Well there’s nothing quite like the Newcatsle United manager job to toughen any manager up, and that seems to have done the job with Chris Hughton, although he always handled the Newcastle job well, and it never seemed to get to him.
It seems to have done the Stratford, London born former Irish International full back the world of good, even though he was so unfairly dismissed.
But Chris took that like he did the Newcastle job in general – as a perfect gentleman with great dignity – and we give great credit to the 52 year-old for all he did at Newcastle.
Chris Hughton is the salt of the earth, and we’re not embarrassed to keep saying that, because it’s true
And that toughening up will be going on with current manager Alan Pardew too, although Alan is a lot more experienced than Chris was, when Chris took over the Magpies’ job two years ago.
Comments always welcome.

Comment #41jeez louise, talk about a mass over reaction, how do we no its true if we are guna bring in only one or 2 players, Pardew is not going to give away his stratagy to the press is he, didnt they say we were not after ba, then wait he signs.
if by 31st of august and we havent improved our squad, which is the most important NOT splashing out for the sake of it, then we can be peed off, so far we have improved our squad, some people on here are fools…not everyone though.

Comment #43Davyb- apologies, I must of missed that. Go after Strurridge please Pards, we need some pace up front, and he would be just perfect to play off Ba. Erdinc would be lovely, but I think that’s off the cards now. Gomez is certainly wishful thinking as Klose is getting on a bit.

Comment #45So… if we’d paid £15 mill for Marveux and Ba instead (as I guess that would be what we’d have to pay). Then it would be allright? Those are cracking signings for zero dosh (except for signing on fees that is).
I’m glad AP aren’t burning money just for the sake of it. If Gameiro hadn’t chosen PSG he’d already been a £10M NUFC signing by now, but what can you do.

Comment #46I feel sick reading that. Gosling and ben Arfa were sorely missed last season, and we were 2 players down as a result of them being out. Their return puts us back to ground level… not 2 up. Total rot.
It does my nut when I read the chumps on here referring to injured players returning as new signings… you may as well bend over and ask Ashley to kick you up the ass.

Comment #55davybtoon – i dont car if they’re ‘like’ new signings, hes just trying to get out of the fact that we arent going to be strengthening the squad as much as it needs by adding them to his list of new signings, fact is they were in our squad last season and they are still this season, nothing new about them, or if thats the case then we actually have 8 new signings as we have xisco routledge and forster back, doesnt work like that!!

“We had the money from the sale of Andy Carroll in January so we knew we had that money and we’ve had our targets for some time now.”
Even though net spending excluding wages and sign on fees is 0, Steve Stone mentions we have spent the money. Classic.

Comment #61i think that we have good squad right now leaving the forward and the saga of enrique other than that everything is right in the squad if we bring in 2 forwards one left back then the squad will be good and then we need to buy some squad players who can sit in the bench who are available for free

Comment #63Boater – I’m sorry, but their return from injury does mean that we’re two up from a team that finished 12th. Having sold Nolan, we’re four players better off than we were last season.
Milner – So you’ve taken players with experience in the premier league and put them in the non EPL category, but Marveaux and Cabeye are in your EPL 11 (12)?
Smooth.

Comment #66wish everyone would just shut up about sturridge, over rated, over priced, no thank you. 12 good games and the sun shines out his arse. every thread i go on it ssturridge this sturridge that. Wasnt good enough for city, wasnt good enough for chelski. Better out there for less money. And to all the people who think cashley is pocketing the 35mill, he is an incredibly rich man and it is pocket change to him. Newcastle united is a business and im glad the fan’s dont own the club, as it would be bankrupt and closed down if half of you had ANY say in its runnings. We are a newly promoted team with an improved team over last year, some of you need to wake up seriously…..

Comment #67Davies – no crystal ball I’m afraid, it’s just that 50 odd years of being forcefed the same old crap makes the old heart a little bitter.
I’m no different to anyone else on here who write because they obviously really care about the Toon, but I can’t understand why some fans just accept everything that is said and done.
Unfortunately blind loyalty, however commendable, has always been our biggest weakness which is why we have had such limited success in my lifetime.
Whether I am a “retard” or not I feel I have sufficient intelligence (and years of support) to be able to make observations without such objectionable tags being attached.

Comment #69Personally, I think Pardew is a brighter manager than Hughton, more experienced, open to learning and developing more, provides better training and opponent analysis, and more streetwise. Hughton should never have lost his job, but Pardew has more about him. Hughton had by far and away the best squad in Div 1, and i dont think he’ll do as well with Birmingham, at all.

Mate Im not looking to pick an argument but why is willo classed as a championship player?
Are you forgetting this was his first season in the premiership? Are you forgetting how bad Colo and enrique were in their first prem season?
All I’m saying is I think he did a good job…Im fully aware he’s no cannavarro or nesta but the boy did good.

Comment #72Some people are so prepared to believe that Ashley is doing good things for Newcastle United. Well time will tell but by going off past form we’ve not got alot to look forward to. It seems like most of the youngster here are more easily taken in by the lies coming from SJP.

Comment #73Realy dissapointed with the club we got 35 million and by the looks of it if we do sign a player of quality he will be quite young which would mean a 5 year deal on around 40k if he’s a good player which would be a quite a chunk out of the 35million with the fee pkus wages

Comment #74I love how negative everyone is! HBA and Gosling will be like new signings as it states they played less than five games last year so surely that bulks up the squad as they were unavailable last season!
To the guy who said 3 in and 3 out, do me a favour, you cant count Campbell and Kuqi in our transfer action, they are off the wage bill and were pointless signings in the first place!
If after the West Brom game we were told that by the beginning of July we would have signed Ba on a free, A French international that won the French league last season and beaten the scousers to a pacey winger i am pretty sure alot of Geordies would have had a big smile on their faces.
I still think we will sign a European striker, and on another note why is everyone disregarding Leon Best so quickly? His record last season speaks for itself!
I hope Nzog will come in also.
Anyway rant over, HWTL!

Comment #75the obvious point of things is this… the free players or relatively cheap players aquired were done so quickly to save money. the more costly players will take longer for the exact same reason, we will look at all the players of a certain quality and see who is giving the best value for money so we can expand the squad significantly. id be suprised if we dont get another 5 -6 players in and i be most of them will cost money

You cannot class Fergie as championship quality, the lad is the Irish Gareth Bale!
He is 19 and plays full international for his country and did you forget the game against Chelsea last season? He gave Ivanovic a torrid time, i would love to see Championship wingers try and do that!
