Newcastle Could Still Go After Sturridge

News today that Newcastle may miss out on top striker target Mevlut Erdinc of PSG.

Daniel Sturridge – while on loan at Bolton

With PSG now having plenty of cash to spend from their new Qatar-based owners, they are going after some top players this summer.

And today the news is they want Eden Hazard of Lille, and have offered an amazing £26M plus Mevlut Erdinc for the young Belgian International midfielder.

If that goes ahead, that could submarine the Newcastle bid for Erdinc, and Newcastle will have to turn their attentions elsewhere.

Alan Pardew will bring in at least one additional striker this summer,  since both Demba Ba and Shola Ameobi may not play too many games next season.

Shola never does, and in 11 seasons on Tyneside, the local lad has played a total of just 303 games with 70 goals,

And whether we like it or not,  new boy Demba Ba failed a medical at Stoke City in January, so there could be some concerns about his knee this coming season – we hope there are no problems –  but it will still be a concern.

Newcastle do have Danish International Peter Lovenkrands available, and Peter can do a job for Newcastle next season, but Leon Best and Nile Ranger are likely to be leaving the club this summer, and both players have already been made available for transfer.

So it could still be that Newcastle will turn their attentions to a certain Daniel Sturridge, even through the club made it clear only yesterday, they were not currently pursuing the 21 year-old Chelsea striker.

We hope they do, but they cannot leave it too late either, as Stoke City, WBA and Bolton are all in for the player on a permanent basis.

And if we are to believe recent news, then Stoke City have already opened the bidding with a £6M offer.

But we wonder if new Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas will want to take a look at the lad in pre-season, before deciding whether he can let him move on?

We’re not really sure what the answer to that is.

What do you think?

CLub never confirmed they werent in for him. A newspaper made it up and called it an unnamed newcastle source.

I keep saying, as soon as chelsea get their new strikers Sturridge will be on the move and we’d be stupid not to go in for him.

Could well happen – if the time is right.

NUFC won’t get involved in a bidding war.

Not sure if Sturridge would want to come to the north east but I think he will know that we will give him the best footballing opportunity.

Ed is on a one man crusade with Sturridge.

No way he will be £6m. The Times are reporting that the asking price is £20m – that sounds more realistic.

With wages that’s over priced. End of.

It won’t get as high as £20m dont think. The right clubs arent in for him for it to go that high.

At a push I think it’ll go up to £15m max.

I dont think it’ll be a case of villa-boas not wanting him. More of a case of Villa-boas wanting to bring his own players in. He supposedly wants Falcao and Neymar.

Plus they’ve got Torres, Drogba, Anelka and Kalou at the club.

Sturridge just isnt going to a get a look in and will probably request a move.

If he were to move of all the clubs interested where he would be garunteed first team football we have the highest reputation so would probably be his best option.

I would love Martin to sign, but I don’t see where the evidence is that we are interested. In fact, I’ve only ever seen reports that we won’t be moving for him (like in the Sunday Sun a few weeks ago).

What makes you so sure he will sign?

Im a bit disappointed with the faultering efforts for Erding. Altho if he really wants to come to us surely he could request that himself? They could just use the sale money to add to the €31m they will pay to psg or however much they’re going to bid for Hazard.

Sturridge will cost too much and i don’t see MA spending even if we would get a good margin on a resell we wouldnt want to spend 15 – 20 in the first place.

who’s a fit striker we can get in for under 10m thats what worries me.

DJ Campbell, bojan for 10m? someone from the eredivisie,. EPL experience is expensive!

myktoonfan – that is the exact reasons he will sign the club like doin everything secretive n the local press hav as much clue as we do who were after, jus sneaky this deals been happenin for a long time but his performance for france may hav held it up infact more confident we will get marvin martin than any other player

I agree with the secretive thing, and I know that the press know little, but the likes of Cabaye, Ba and even Marveaux were picked up by the press at some point or other – Martin hasn’t been mentioned at all, except by the rumour mill on Twitter.

He’s been linked with Arsenal, Man U, Lille, Lyon, Dortmund… But rarely with us. Disappointed as I’d love him here, but it seems too quiet to be true.
