News in the Newcastle Journal today that the Magpies are now likely to be unsuccessful in their attempts to bring Mevlut Erdinc to Tyneside.
Mevlut Erdinc – may not be arriving on Tyneside
When Newcastle lost out to PSG for top target Kevin Gameiro, they moved quickly for Erdinc, who presumably will lose his place to Gameiro at PSG next season.
PSG are now said to be making a move for top young play-maker Eden Hazard of Lille, and you ask how can they afford such a top young player?
It turns out the Paris club have had rather a large infusion of money from Qatar, and they seem willing to spend big this summer, as demonstrated by their signing of Gameiro, who probably cost £10M.
PSG announced in late May that Qatari investors had bought a controlling 70% stake in the Paris club, ending months of speculation about who the Ligue 1 club’s new owners would be – so obviously they have big money to spend this summer.
That’s what Newcastle need – a Billionaire owner – oh I almost forgot – we already have one. Oh well.
PSG are reported to have offered Erdinc in part exchange for Hazard, with cash thrown into the deal.
And the French press are reporting today that PSG have offered as much as £27M plus Erdinc for Eden Hazard – who do PSG think they think they are – Manchester City?
That’s a fantastic offer, and whereas Lille have said they want to keep their young Belgian International, that’s a lot of money to turn down.
If PSG have that kind of money to throw around, they could very quickly become a top club in Europe, which we’re sure that’s just exactly what the new owners want to see.
The last we heard on Erdinc was that Newcastle had increased their bid to £6.5M, but if this development is true, it doesn’t look too good for Newcastle, and the club may miss out on their second striker target in France.
Newcastle may now have to look elsewhere, but that may not be too bad – and we wonder how far down the list young Daniel Sturridge is?
