If anybody was going to get the number 9 shirt at Newcastle this season, we would have thought it could have been Demba Ba.
Daniel Sturridge – is this lad a contender for number 9 shirt?
But the number 9 shirt was never mentioned to the Senegal striker, when he signed on two weeks ago today, and he took his lucky number – 19.
So if there are to be contenders to wear the number 9 shirt next season, you have to think that there could be a couple of decent strikers still to come in this summer – that seems fairly logical.
This is what Alan Pardew said today about the number 9 shirt, to the local Newcastle press:
The number nine shirt is equally important. I will leave the number nine as late as I can.”
“I know just what that shirt means to this football club, but there will be a few contenders who could wear that shirt and do it justice.”
“It is an important shirt and I might think of giving it to a player who doesn’t get weighed down by it. I will have to assess the characters of the players to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
If nobody comes in that deserves the shirt, then it should not be given to anybody.
But don’t you think young Daniel Sturridge could wear that shirt with some pride and distinction?
In our active poll on whether Newcastle should go after Daniel Sturridge at around £10M, a huge 95% of readers think Newcastle should do just that.
Wonder if Alan Pardew ever reads this blog?
😀

I dont think we have to pay compensation, but it could be that OR fee paid to the player for being a free agent so like ANY FREE AGENT none are really free with a Signing On Fee.

If we arent interested in either of them why have we scouted them so much? More likely we are and the club dont want anyone jumping in on the deal

Comment #97Not being funny or nowt but Pardew has already come out and said we’ll only be signing one or two more players. One of them is likely to be naylor which leaves one more. Club have already come out and said we’re not interested in the Bangura’s. We’ve scouted loads of players but have dropped interest, seemingly only recently.
Would love to see it but between now and first game of the season i reckon we’ll ship out more than we bring in, easy.

Comment #98Pardew tells the papers what he is told to tell the papers cant trust anything he says (not saying he is a liar but NUFC keep their hand very close to their chest so they are more than willing to tell staff to lie during paper interviews)
Remember club insiders said we had no interest in Ba 2 days before he signed on the dotted line.
I think we will sign more than 2 players but that might just be me.

Comment #99i agree that the club need to do more to keep their interest quiet as ridiculous how many other clubs jump in on players we’ve noted as having interest in
only other thing is they know they need to get rid of some before they can bring more in – lovenkrands, ranger, best, routledge, guthrie, smith – all on the wage bill and can understand if MA says some need to go before he’ll sanction any more deals
here’s hoping

Comment #100Your right in what your saying about shipping some players out but I cant see Loven Routledge Gurthrie or Best being on big wages plus the Bangura duo wouldnt be joining on high wages (I doubt we will get both but I reckon we could get one)
Tiote was on 8k a week when he joined going off what I heard about it. Wage bill was budgetted to increase over the summer as well.
I dont see Ashley missing up on a oppertunity to sign a player that Carr has highly recommended just because of a 10k a week bump.
BUT I am probably just being over optimistic

Comment #101The current regime play their cards so close to their chest it’s hard to envisage they’d layout their transfer plans. A lot will depend on who goes out as well, I think we’ll get another 3 players in regardless.

Even if he does – I doubt it’s his call! his call, & I can’t see MA paying top rouble to Chelski.

Comment #103Players I could see us making a move for ( fitting the bill)
1. A. Turan – 19years old left midfielder or left back.
2. M.Carcela-Gonzalez – 21years old solid midfielder
3.E.Rivière – 21years old pacey but solid striker, lots of potential.
4.S. Y?ld?r?m- 21years old, exactly the same as above.
I will post a few links in a minute.

Turan is moody I signed him on FM at the same time as I signed Hazard and he wasent happy on the bench behind Haz so I had to ship him out on loan….in conclusion he is a trouble maker of the highest degree in my eyes! 😉 haha that is actually the level of knowledge I have on the lad

Comment #113I here all these tropical names being banded around, I like most would love to see someone who can bring back some pride back to the famous no 9, but really feel we will end up with a carlton cole or a shane long type player at best.
I would also like to see a bit of strenthening at the back I really feel Brown from Man U would do a job for us over the next couple of year as would provide centre and left back cover, what does anybody else feel about this.
