There is news today that Aston Villa are set to make a bid of around £9M for Wigan’s Charles N’Zogbia.
Charles N’Zogbia – Aston Villa now favorites?
Newcastle had been favorites to land their former winger, but the deal hasn’t gone though yet, and it seems that Charles is delaying any decision, until he sees which clubs may still come in for him.
New Villa boss Alex McLeish wants to replace Ashley Young, who has signed for Manchester United, and winger Stewart Downing could soon be on his way out of Aston Villa to join Liverpool.
The Wigan Evening Post is now claiming that Aston Villa are favorites to get the 25-year-old French International, and the news is that Villa could put in their bid in the next day or two.
It’s really hard to know exactly what the situation is with Charles N’Zogbia, with all the conflicting news, but a source close to the player keeps saying he wants to return to Newcastle, but we don’t know whether that source is real or made up.
Alex McLeish is a big admirer of N’Zogbia and thought he had a deal to sign Charles for Birmingham City last summer, but the deal fell through, when the Frenchman pulled out of that deal at the last moment.
Aston Villa will also attempt to offer N’Zogbia a lucrative long term deal, with Newcastle, Sunderland, Liverpool and Everton all being linked with the twice capped French International.
This is hardly good news for Newcatsle – if it is true.

Comment #2This is really dragging like.
The amount of times N’zogbia has supposedly said he wants nothing but a return to us, it should’ve been tied up now.
One of two things, either we havent bid/been accepted yet, or zoggy is dragging his feet waiting to see if a top 6 team comes in for him.

Comment #6fair enough it was a week ago, but DW said they have had clubs asking to be kept informed but no actual bids for n’zogbia, so cant see how from that to charles is delaying a decision. DW also said 3/4 clubs had enquired so this isnt really suprising that a few clubs are linked in the papers.

Comment #21The answer to this is dead simple …
If Zog has told his agent he only wants to sign for us and we have told his agent we want to sign him – its a 90% chance he will come.
If the above is true both Zog and MA will hold out and when Wigan realise they have no choice but to deal with us MA will do a deal at c£6/7M cash. Unless Wigan accept c£6£7M soon this saga will play out for a while yet.
If Zog doesn’t want to come back he will sign for the best club that gives him £60K a week. If Villa offer £9M and £60K a week and Zog doesn’t sign – that will tell us and Wigan that he probably is hell bent on coming here.
Until another club makes a £9M bid its all speculation and paper talk. As usual.

if we can dispose xisco and smith whose combined wages is almost 80-90k, we can easily afford Nzog if cashley is indeed willing to invest in someone whose going to push our club to the next level.

Comment #24almost ilovetoon?!? Try 100k a week combined wages, they’re both on 50k a week i think. Get rid of them and we could get zoggy on the 60k he supposedly wants, then another frenchie or something on 40k a week.

Comment #25Guarantee N’Zogbia & Erdinc sign within the next week. both contracts not a problem, initial buying fees just need tweaking. biggest block with Zog is.sorting out what’s owed, as Newcastle had sell on clause

Comment #26I’m starting to get a little worried.. It seems right now that we are always looking for a better deal somewhere else.. sometimes you just have to go for your targets.. evene if it meens paying abit to much for them.
Otherwise there’s a big risk of ending up with nothing…

Comment #27spot on bills-son. I think he wants to join the rest of the French national side up here.
But the more time he spends waiting the more detrimental it is to our pre season. He should stick in a transfer request and Newcastle should man up and bid for him.
By all accounts I think we will have a few movements next week (I hope) now the window is officially open.

Comment #29Ashley is not going to splash £ 9 mil on a player who’s contract runs out in 12 month – it’s bad business.
It’s easy to judge when it’s not your money. So put your money where your mouth is folks.

Comment #30On a completely different topic, I saw the new home top yesterday in a store it is Black with 2 white stripes the back is completely black. The Toon play in black & white stripes not black with 2 white stripes I think it is absolutely awful.

Comment #34Zog is waiting for the best offer for HIS bank balance – he doesn’t care where he plays as long as its for the max deal he can get!!
He is the worst example of superbrat in the league, we need him like a hole in the head. There are better players out there much more suitable to today’s NUFC.

Comment #37Hello gents! Discovered this site about two weeks ago and now cannot get off it. Now i feel the need to pop my ‘post cherry’ and actually get involved.
Ok the way I see it. Why would Zog want to go to Villa? Birmingham is a sh*t hole, the ground is crap so god knows what their training facilities are like. The city is hardly a football city and their players are hardly worshiped. Newcastle is the EXACT opposite AND he has loads of French players to connect with. If i had to put my life on what team he will join I would put it on Newcastle. There is no way I would sign for Aston villa. Been to Birmingham too many times and have always disliked the place. Common Ash! Sign now. Get cover for Jose and for fooks sake sign a quality STRIKER!!!!
