Newcastle Increase Their Bid For Top Turkish Striker

11:09 am, Sunday, July 3rd, 2011 by Ed Harrison · 401 Comments

There is a report today in the News of the World today that Newcastle will increase their bid for PSG striker Mevlut Erdinc.

Mevlut Erdinc - Newcastle increase their bid

The last we heard on Erdinc was that Newcastle had previously increased their bid to £6.5M, with Newcastle initially bidding £5M and PSG wanting £8M – so Newcastle split the difference.

But we don’t know if PSG have responded to that bid, since the news was that PSG had bid cash plus Erdinc,  in an attempt to lure top Lille play-maker Eden Hazard to the Paris-based club.

The news today is that Newcastle seem to be willing to increase their bid for the 10 times capped Turkish International to £7.5M,  in an effort to get the player on board, before the squad starts their American tour later this  month.

Erdinc is a skilful player, and could form a good partnership with new striker Demba Ba, the Senegal International.

And it would appear that Mevlut would also be a popular signing with Newcastle fans.

Let’s hope we can get the 24 year-old player – born in Saint-Claude, France – through the door - this week.

Comments welcome.

    1st! :3

  • 3 carrollsinger // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:13 AM

Would be a good signing and prove we will spend money

  • 4 eaststandgeordie1982 // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:15 AM

Defo get him in and start on defence cover and a right winger

  • 5 BonVoyageBenny // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:16 AM

7.5M is a good amount for what he possesses. Speedy, a little trickster, would suit Ba in a partnership.

  • 6 roshan MAGPIE // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:18 AM

he is the correct forward we need full of pace and trickery

  • 7 Pards28 // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:20 AM

him and Ba would be amazing.

  • 8 sweendog // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:20 AM

eaststandgeordie1982 .. agreed although we still need a DM .. especially if Joey is sold .. would love Matuidi or Sissoko ..

    Players needed
    Striker – Erding
    DM – Matuidi
RW – ???, maybe Zog LW and Guti out Right
LB – cover or 1st teamer if the bull goes, I reckon he’ll stay if we get all the other buys, ie Matuidi,Erding,Zog
RB – maybe ok with gosling here to backup

After that maybe good young hungry players for CB etc ..

    Nzogbia 1st!!

  • 10 moonraker // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:23 AM

Sign him up and I’m happy. If we don’t score goals next season were toast.

  • 11 magpie6699 // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:28 AM

Looking at this blog and the last, I find it fascinating how desperate some people are – “Why haven’t we bid for X, we’re gonna bid for nobody, we’re losing our 27 best players, blah blah?” Other than the very occasional official news, I have no confidence that anybody in the media knows who we’ve bid for, are looking at, or will sell – and yet people are getting very angry about what we have and haven’t done – and it’s all MA’s fault or Pardew. And I’m not being an apologist for them – I’m just reserving judgement. There are 2 “exam results” as far as I’m concerned: first, where we are at at the end of the transfer window – when I might feel satisfied, disappointed, angry etc.The second is obviously when I see how next season goes, results and play-wise.
Meanwhile, its “Daddy, I want a present! Something – ANYTHING! And I want it NOW! Or else I’ll scream!”

  • 12 dmac // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:30 AM

I agree with Moon we need to score goals and our forwards minus Ba are weak.

  • 13 sweendog // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:31 AM

magpie6699 .. agreed to some extent .. we need a RW, DM, Striker .. I don’t care if they’re 20 mill or free as long as they’re good enough

  • 14 magpie6699 // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:36 AM

sweendog – sure. Not saying we don’t need to strengthen in some areas. And I have my own views about things e.g of all our strikers (excluding Ba), the one who has always looked most up for it, puts himself around, tries hard and has scored some goals is Best – but if we get another really good striker in I’ll be less bothered – and I don’t care how much they cost, it’ll be how they perform.

  • 15 eaststandgeordie1982 // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:36 AM

Sweendog gosling is a DM and he is good enough barton is better attaking than defending just ask simmo he got left 2 on 1 most of last season with barton infront of him

  • 16 balubas1 // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:38 AM

Just for info: News of the World are rated as THE MOST unreliable source for football in the WORLD. They are rock bottom. How this was found was by taking the articles of every newssource and looking at how many of the links and rumours actually materialised. The nr.1 on reliableness is “The Guardian” with some 33% of their articles went on to be true in regards of transfers. But much of this is obviously donw to the journalists themselves and their contacts.

  • 17 sweendog // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:41 AM

magpie6699 .. agreed on best .. he’s got ability in abundance .. I think he should be tried consistently in the cups .. if he proves his ability promote him to league 1st choice .. otherwise he should still be a sub until his goal scoring improves ..
eaststandgeordie1982 .. agreed gosling is a DM .. but is he good enough to be our main DM .. he was quality for Everton as RB .. RW he wasn’t bad .. the jury is still out in relation to DM .. note we need cover for Tiotes yellow cards .. and the ACM .. we can’t wait until Jan to realise this.

  • 18 Robby Bobson // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:41 AM

Looks a nifty player..someone who can get on the end of the hba and cabaye through balls. People moan about his goal record but its better than gyan had in france and he hasnt done half bad

  • 19 magpie6699 // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:41 AM

balubas1 – very interesting stats. The other point is that the BEST source only gets 1 right in 3!

  • 20 TOON RSA // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:41 AM

I’ve written about it once or twice so this third time i’ll offer more insight to my opinion.

Successful Forwards and Strikers generally take a year or two to establish themselves in the PL. Is it the physicality of the PL defenses usually with 4 at the back, the demanding calender that takes getting used to? Other reasons could be applied. What stands to reason though is that proven successful strikers appear to know how to beat such and such a defense/defender because they’ve played them before, worked it out and better them.

I understand Ashley’s youth policy and desire to not pay 5 years @ 100k a week wage for ‘we’re not sure what you’ll be like in three years’… But you can’t buy proven PL experience and attacking track record. With Ba, there’s that potential definitely… but not confirmed.

Ba could go either way… What we need is somebody with GREAT POTENTIAL and someone with EXPERIENCE & HUNGER.

I say with 35 million make this financial statement.

Buy Sturridge – Outbid everybody else and in two years if he the team is still where we are but he’s great, sell him for 40Million.

Buy Defoe – Give him 9 and a wage based on his ability to keep that number. Make him the forwards captain and get 3 great years of forward play. His experience in the PL is invaluable. He will help push Sturridges price up.

?? Am i the only one thinking Defoe?

  • 21 Toonboy_84 // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:42 AM

Everyone is obsessed with money/fees. I couldn’t give a shit if we sign good players. They could be free or £30 million. We’re not accountants. We’re football fans. Like Magpie6699, I will be reserving judgement till we are finished in the transfer window. Weather or not the Judas money is spent, I will be happy if we get another striker, center back and left back (if Jose leaves).

  • 22 sweendog // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:42 AM

*ACM .. shoud be ACN .. african cup of nations

  • 23 Robby Bobson // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:45 AM

Toonrsa….defoe will be too much for his age for ashley. I would love us to keep leon best but that dont look like happening.

  • 24 sweendog // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:46 AM

Toon RSA .. defoe .. not IMO.. mercenary who relies on Pace .. greedy player .. although he is a quality finisher .. rather erding that Defo ..
as for sturridge .. yep would love him .. we’ll see if its him or erding .. hopefully we’ll get him on loan..alongside erding or is that expecting too much :-)

  • 25 sweendog // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:48 AM

robby bobson .. agreed on Best .. worth keeping him for another year .. see if he improves as much as he did last season .. good to have a target man like him

  • 26 toontoonblacknwhitearmy // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:49 AM

WE HAVE ENOUGH GOOD CM’s!!! Matuidi would just be an excuse to have a more defensive set up; we don’t need him. WE NEED a versitile defender for cover, a STRIKER, I still think we will need 2 for competition, and please buy Zog as a RW, he is amazing there, cuts in and shoots and kept Wigan in the league because of this!!! Everyone saying play Jonas on the RW has no clue what so ever!!!

  • 27 sweendog // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:53 AM

toontoonblacknwhitearmy .. did you watch the toon last year? .. did you watch Guti on the right last year ..he was good .. .. who would you have as RW then if we bought Zog .. answers on a postcard mate :-)

  • 28 sweendog // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:54 AM

    toontoonblacknwhitearmy ..
also when Tiote is away at the ACN who would you have as our DM who has pace .. again answers on a postcard

  • 29 Toonboy_84 // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:55 AM

I’d take defoe. He would score goals no doubt.

  • 30 eaststandgeordie1982 // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:56 AM

Sweendog i wouldnt want us to spend 13m on cover thats not wise at all when it can be used for places where we need players tiote is our main DM gosling cover and cabaye can also play there if need be

  • 31 sweendog // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:57 AM

toontoonblacknwhitearmy .. just take a time out before overreacting and saying some people have no clue whatsoever .. might make you look a bit stupid ..

to all those reserving judgement – very magnanimous of you but doe it mean that you wont be putting up any more posts till close of window – you crack me up your like the people who phone a premium rate number to vote that you cant make your mind up between A and B lol

This post thrives on different opinions and banter – not fence sitting

  • 33 sweendog // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:59 AM

eaststandgeordie1982 .. agreed .. we still need cover although I see Matuidi and Tiote working together when we play away from home .. in a 4-5-1
the 5 man midfield is like so

    Tiote – Matuidi
    Guti – Cabaye – Arfa

  • 34 toontoonblacknwhitearmy // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:02 PM

Jonas played the FULL SEASON on the left wing you plum! Barton played on the RW…

Thats why you hear people talking about Jose and Jonas’ chemistry, LB and LW…

Oh and I really don’t know, we have good players (in my eyes) in abundance. E.g Guthrie, Barton, Cabeye, Gosling, and even this young Abeid, I’ve heard he’s a defensive CM. Before you slate Guthrie, he was good in the last 2 games of last season when Tiote was rested, the reason we drew 3-3 with WBA is cos Pardew brought Smith&Co on.

  • 35 sweendog // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:04 PM

eaststandgeordie1982 .. not convinced on Cabaye as DM .. I see him as our attacking midfielder.. still could be wrong but he played that position for Lille

  • 36 sweendog // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:06 PM

toontoonblacknwhitearmy .. I see you didn’t watch the toon last year .. yes Guti mainly played LW .. did he not swap wings during games .. don’t want to get into a childish argument with you so we’ll leave it at that ..

  • 37 Robby Bobson // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:06 PM

I was reading a french blog the other day and matuidi seems the real deal. Everyone was moaning players were leaving ligue 1 not for arsenal or man utd but going to newcastle. They said erdinc was alright cus hes averagr but matuidi should be going to a top top team.

  • 38 toontoonblacknwhitearmy // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:06 PM

So you would buy a £10m+ player in Matuidi for half the season’s games (away) and the ACN games? Hmm, when the team can adopt a more defensive stance anyway in away games? And when we have youth coming through the ranks that can cover?

  • 39 Toonboy_84 // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:07 PM

    CynicalasEva

Although I am reserving judgment, this doesn’t mean I can’t post on here anymore. It just means I’m not gonna complain about lack of signings………..yet

  • 40 09nufc09 // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:08 PM

Matuidi if anything would make us more attacking, it would allow hba marveaux and guti/ hopefully nzog and ba / erding to be all out attack while they sit and protect the back 4. Cabaye and gosling can play both atacking mid and defensive mid, its all about cover, why do you think manu have bought young and jones when they already have nani valencia and vidic and ferdinand? Players get injured/ suspended and players get tired during games. Matuidi would be a very good signing.

  • 41 toontoonblacknwhitearmy // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:08 PM

I don’t pay great attention to detail sweeney but I would bet my house that he played more time on the LW, considering the player he would have had to swap with would be Barton

  • 42 Mc-Toon // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:08 PM

    Toon RSA…are you on crack!?

Why do we need to ‘make a financial statement’ , what your talking about sounds like financial suicide!

I’d much rather we made a financial statement via the means were currently doing, good players adding quality not numbers all for very little in fees. Surely the financial statement of signing Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Ba, Marveaux, Gosling, And Toite for around £14million is enough of a financial statement!?

That statement is signing some quality players for less than half of an Andy Carroll, 3/4 of a Jordan Henderson, less than a Michael Owen, one and a half Albert Luques etc etc.

I prefer our current financial statement thanks!

  • 43 sweendog // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:09 PM

also I’d appreciate not getting childish name calling posts .. I’m a bit too old for that .. and are we not both toon supporters ..

  • 48 sweendog // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:15 PM

toontoonblacknwhitearmy .. do you not remember Gutis assists from the right wing .. I was looking for the youtube clip but frankly I’ve got bored

  • 49 Robby Bobson // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:17 PM

Guti played left but he would always gey bored and drift and end up next to joey

  • 50 toontoonblacknwhitearmy // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:20 PM

I only went to half the home matches but I would have said covering jose was one of his strong points, the other main one being their link up.

  • 51 Phil K // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:29 PM

  • 53 hainesy // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:35 PM

Matuidi talk is totally non-existent. It is a non starter. Look at Leroy Fer if you want CDM cover for Tiote he is your man. 4.5M for him unlike the numbers between 10 and 15M for Matuidi. If we are going to actually fork out 10M or more I am 99.9% certain it would only be for a new no.9 or for N’Zogbia.

  • 54 09nufc09 // Jul 3, 2011 at 12:36 PM

The only place we lack quality is up front and right back, but i rate simpson and think he will get better so i would only buy a back up and we are being linked with erding which means we would not be lacking up front. Nzog would be a luxury signing That would take us to the next level. Matuidi would mean we could shut up shop when we get a lead or we could go all out attack if we are behind, would be a sensible signing, especially considering we are going to be without tiote for about 2 months and then theres suspensions on top of that.
When we had 2 wingers who could play both sides jonas would often swap with routledge, but barton was not a winger and could only play on the right, jonas strong point is his tracking back and running at players something that joey lacks and leaves simpson exposed alot, jonas on the right with mareaux on the left would be strong, jose has played well with both hba and fergie this season so he dosent need jonas in front of him.

Have my worries over him, Out of form last season and trying to adapt to new language, country, club it will be tough and im not sure he will score enough for a 7.5M Striker.

Is a big gamble buying a striker who’s off-form and from another league, i think we need another striker otherwise the pressure on him and Ba to score week in week out will be alot.

We should keep Joey Barton and let him go on a free next season. We are still not capable of attracting high quality midfielders like him to replace Barton. If we keep him, he will add much needed quality depth and help us push high up the league. We can recoup the potential 4 million loss of selling Barton this season if he helps us finish in a position that will help us get 4 million more, which is 9th-7th…

  • 62 JackButler // Jul 3, 2011 at 1:13 PM

Strange with all the moaning about us spending money, the best player we’ve signed this season in BA, and he cost us nothing!!!.
Stop obsessing about money and look for the quality. Tiote is the perfect example, cost us very little but has had a massive impact on the team.

  • 63 nightfa11 // Jul 3, 2011 at 1:16 PM

i think we wont sign anyone untill we get rid off dead wood.. ashley said many times we need to balance the books..so..

out: carroll, nolan, sol, kuqi..together they were on over 100k per week..& the players weve signed so far also take aprox the same portion of wage budget.. i think thats the case..

i dont think well buy untill we seel smith, xisco, etc.

  • 65 qtoon // Jul 3, 2011 at 1:25 PM

I reckon Ba, Erdinc, Best and Lovenkrands can do the job for us next season.

Looks like we’re gonna be playing ‘ball on the deck’ sort of football next season rather than relying on crossing and set pieces. I know McLoven would often go missing during matches, but that’s no surprise if Barton is looking for that long ball. I think the new style would suit a player like him.

I reckon Erdinc would be a better version of Lovenkrands getting in behind the defence, and Ba a better and more skillful version of Best. No doubt Best and McLoven are decent backup.

Get Ranger out on loan to a strict manager, maybe even Airey as well to get some experience. Then keep an eye on the availability of Sturridge. Chelsea will buy either Lukaku, Falcao or Neymar, so he’ll want to go eventually. Job done!

    Bring on next season!!

  • 66 qtoon // Jul 3, 2011 at 1:33 PM

    Bonjours messieurs.

There’s the news i got on Erding:

Erding and Newcastle found an Agreement. But PSG consider the newcastle’s 8,2 millions euros offer insufficient. It seems Mackems have already offer them 10 millions euros. Officialy, Paris want 11,3 millions euros.

Jonas never has been or will never be a right sided midfielder. in his time with Velez Sarsfield, Argentina, Majorca and NUFC he has never played right side midfield, he has played right full back for his country but was woeful

  • 74 Offkey // Jul 3, 2011 at 1:50 PM

    @ toontoonblacknwhitearmy

Fair play if you like wingers to play that way. Dont get me wrong, I’m happy for wingers to swap wings during the game to change things up but unlike yourself I prefer to have my set up with a naturally left footed player on the left and a naturally right footed player on the right.

This is especially the case when they dont score a lot of goals by ‘cutting inside’. Therefore I dont really see what your problem is with Guti on right (especially if Jose is going as it negates the link up play). Further, Guti did have a few forays down the right and looked good, without having to stop his run, cut on to his right (allowing the defenders to return to position) before whipping in a usually poor cross (there were a few exceptions – Birmingham I believe).

Matuida would be a good as 09NUFC09 states at comment 40.

In all, I felt slightly insulted by your little rant, but this has seemed to fade as YOU clearly dont seem to have a clue. Dont get me wrong, your opinion is fine on the set up of the team, but your statement was a bit nonsensical.

wow it hasnt been reported over here…
I think its cheeky that PSG think erdinc is worth the same as what they paid for Gameiro!! Why are they being so stingy and tight, when they have just offered like £13mn for that twit Adel Taraabt!

  • 77 MykToonFan // Jul 3, 2011 at 1:53 PM

I doubt Sunderland are willing to spend that much on Erding.

Why would they? They have three fairly strong strikers now, and are looking at the likes of DJ Campbell as cheap back-up.

They aren’t a real threat for Erding – I think we are our own worst enemy here, as we are refusing to match PSG’s estimation.

  • 80 niafron // Jul 3, 2011 at 1:56 PM

    @MyktoonFan

The problem when you’re negociating with people who don’t need money is they don’t have to negociate. They give you a price, if you pay, it’s good for them, if you don’t, they don’t care.

  • 81 JackButler // Jul 3, 2011 at 2:04 PM

    niafron

With Mike Ashley if he can’t make the deal happen for a price thats right for him, he doesn’t care either and he’ll just walk away and look to someone else

    Offkey,

And if we play Jonas on the left and Marveoux (or Zog) on the right, how van we expect to stretch defences? If you or I were a right back, you’d show Jonas the outside line every time, knowing the cross is poorer that side. Same with Zog. If he gets inside you onto his left you’re in trouble. Show him the line

I agree mate. A left footer on the left and a right footer on the right… At least preferably.

Erdinc is a very talented striker and is probably the best striker we could sign for the money Ashley is willing to offer ( £7m – £8m ) and reasonably low wages.

People are still talking about Sturridge but it’s not going to happen. Chelsea want £20m for him.

Longtime reader, firsttime porter. Just Wondering what people think of snapping up artem milevskyi as our ‘big name’ signing. Release clause of around £9 million. Psg were sniffing around him until they got gameiro. Great talent, strong target man and a much more interesting prospect than erdinc. Milevskyi and ba upfront would be a terrifying. Ah well, nice to dream.

  • 97 geordiefinn // Jul 3, 2011 at 3:15 PM

Jonas did play as RIGHT WINGER last season ffs!! Can’t you remember the games against Chelsea & WBA in may? In those matches Ferguson played as a left winger, Raylor and Joey in the middle and Jonas was right winger. Imo Jonas played his best games of the season as a right winger in those games. So surely he can play as a right winger, as he did also at Mallorca.

    For Gorskino10:
I think it is clear that you don’t like Erding at all. I remember you mentioned players like Giroud and Maiga as alternatives, but can you guarantee they can do the job for NUFC, as they also come from Ligue 1 and they will need time to adapt? I think its meaningless point to say Erding had one bad season, he is a proven goal scorer just check his stats from Sochaux and PSG. For example, Rooney didn’t score so many goals last season, so I assume you wouldn’t take he to NUFC if he was available? OK, maybe a bad example as he earns millions, but you know every player have their bad times?

and i can’t remember where he played at chelsea but i think he just got a free role playing off the striker?

  • 101 toontoonblacknwhitearmy // Jul 3, 2011 at 3:25 PM

    @Offkey

my point was that Jonas played on the left last season, not that he wouldn’t be good if he moved to the right!

And with the whole left footer on left wing idea i don’t mind, I don’t really think it matters as we have 2 attacking, overlapping full backs who like to cross, so we have the option of cutting inside or crossing it in.

Hengbart is a quick player that I think Simpson would learn a lot off, a strong player who would do a job anywhere along the back four, could also cover as a holding midfielder.

Him, another winger (preferrably someone who could play RW) and a striker/or 2 and we are sorted!

  • 102 dickinsonjuniour // Jul 3, 2011 at 3:25 PM

Lille wont sell Hazard to PSG so Erdinc wont be a makeweght in any deal they see PSG as their rivals next season.
The delay with this deal is down to PSG being taken over and appointing a new football director likely to be Leanardo.Source (Le Parisiene)

N’zogbia and erding, then promote vuckic and ferguson to the first team, ferguson as a main starter, and vuckic to come on in the last quarter of the game.

Sturridge in my eyes should be a separate investment, 20 million sounds alot, but he is 21, and that money will soon be recovered, as he looks like the next best thing in England since sliced bread.

Buying mediocre squad players will just push our future potential stars out, let Abheid, Moyo, Richardson, Cambpell, e.c.t.. have a chance, like Everton do, and they look a pretty successful club to me when it comes to youth.

He definitely has tremendous desire to play unlike Ranger who can’t get himself out of bed. Pardew has spent a lot of time and effort going after Erding so I think we will eventually get him if the owner doesn’t penny pinch at the last minute.

  • 183 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2011 at 6:44 PM

Niafron, swisstone, belfastmagpie and others I haven’t seen your predictions for where we will finish this coming season. I’m going on record for 9th. Higher up might be possible depending on injuries most of all. I’m interested to see how the back 4 do. Still unconvinced we have enough there. We should leave the likes of Stoke in our dust with our new attack (if they don’t succeed in kicking us off the pitch). Can’t wait to see Marveaux’s blistering pace.

aw a see MykToonFan – a thought it was weird cos douglas isnt normally like tht doesnt really say stuff like tht.. ad rather we payed extra for Doumbia than Erding but if we get Erding i will still be very happy hes a cracking player

  • 185 niafron // Jul 3, 2011 at 6:47 PM

    @arfa chance

No. Marseille have paid him 15 millions euros. They will claim more now with his excellent season’s end. and the player don’t want to leave. Marseille will play champions league next year.

And traditional’s Newcastle argument to persuade a player would be useless in this case, for Marseille got a 60 000 seats stadium, full each week, and the whole city is totaly mad about football.

There’s maybe a small chance, if Deschamps bring to the club the top striker he want. Like Gilardino. In this case, Rémy can feel himself pushed aside, for Deschamps have never showed him great signs of trust.

But there’s pure speculations, and honestly there’s almost no chance to sign him.

  • 186 Andy // Jul 3, 2011 at 6:48 PM

Geordietwo i will go on record as it currently stands we’ll finish 10th. ACN will hurt us as we’ll lose Ba and Tiote and Tiote is an extremely hard player to replace, well he was last year. Hopefully Gosling can step up when he is away. Also hope Best continues the goalscoring form he had last year

  • 187 niafron // Jul 3, 2011 at 6:52 PM

    @G two

I prefer don’t make predictions before the end of the market.

However, i can say this: if you sign Sturridge, if Ben arfa have fully recover, if Barton stay and if all these guys mix well, i think you will catch the fourth place.

  • 188 dickinsonjuniour // Jul 3, 2011 at 6:56 PM

if we sell barton best enrique and get like £20 we should put a £30million offer for both higuain and garay of real madrid both dont get first team football

  • 189 dave 1961 // Jul 3, 2011 at 6:58 PM

best showed against west brom what a poor player he is he spent most of his time on the pitch flat on his back, if we go into the season with him as our second forward we will be very short on goals, he scored in 4 of the 12 games he played in.

  • 190 gorskino10 // Jul 3, 2011 at 6:59 PM

    GeordieToon89

    Gamiero 09/2011
    71
    39

    09/2011

    65 (6 games less)
    23 (16 Goals less)

Which 16 is ALOT of a difference thats more than Erdincs BEST season total, and this is for the last 2 SEASONS so Gamiero has scored over 1 season more in goals (if you take that from Erdincs 15 goal season)
or taking Erdincs record for last season Gamiero has 2 SEASONS more of goals (as Erdinc got 8 last season)

So would hardly say they have a similar record.

  • 191 niafron // Jul 3, 2011 at 7:00 PM

Higuain is on the pitch the opposite of the kind of striker the club is aiming.

  • 192 GeordieTwo // Jul 3, 2011 at 7:01 PM

Thanks Andy and niafron. Definite differences of opinion there but excellent points. Niafron if we get Sturridge that would push us up the table quite a bit. Yes the mix will be important with so many new players in the starting team. Andy yes the African Cup of Nations could be a problem for us as we have no replacement for Tiote and I don’t believe the rumours about Matuidi. Maybe with Barton and Cabaye in the middle when Tiote is away we can manage. That would definitely expose our back 4 though and there is a problem there with no decent depth at the back. This should be Kadar’s year to make an impression on Pardew. Also people like Tavernier a lot. I haven’t seen him enough to comment. Niafron if you could recommend one more player from France who most haven’t considered or don’t know about who would it be?

  • 193 DJM TOON // Jul 3, 2011 at 7:06 PM

£20 for barton best and enrique… i’ll pay that and they can do my cleaning, ironing and cooking!

  • 194 Andy // Jul 3, 2011 at 7:06 PM

The only time i’ve seen tavernier play was at about u16s as my brother was playing against them. He was the stand out player that day playing at rb. Seemed v attacking and a good cross but then again there is a huge difference between playing boys clubs and prem football. Would like to get Onuoha from City as I think he’s a v good player. He’d cost about £4-6m i reckon and would be better than Simpson who i do rate but needs competition as he looks too complacent at times

  • 200 niafron // Jul 3, 2011 at 7:13 PM

    There’s a lot…

There’s a review i ‘ve made this winter. Some infoàrmations are no more accurate, but well, it will give you some ideas…

“OK, those are actualy exciting player in France (price are my own personnal estimation, so don’t take that for accurate values). I mention generaly only young players:
    GoalKeepers:
Hugo Loris, Lyon, about 10 to 15 millions euro, a prodigee.
Steve Mandada, Marseille, 8 to 10 mE.
Cedric Karasso, Bordeaux, 6 or 7 mE maybe.
    Central defensor:
Sakho, Paris, at least 10 mE.
Spahic, Montpellier, 5 mE, i guess, maybe less with good bargain (he is 30 year old however but realy good and availlable i think.)
M’Bia, Marseille, 8 mE, a real mercenary, he will come without a doubt if well paid.
Ciani, Bordeaux, 5 mE maybe, good last season, got difficulty actualy.
Lovren, Lyon, 5 or six mE, i’m not sure. Gifted but got to prove himself.

    Side defensors:
Jallet, Paris, maybe 8 to 10 mE.
Tremoulinas, Bordeaux, 5 to 8 mE.
Cissokho, Lyon, Traded from porto for 15 mE, you maybe got him for 10 to 12 mE or even less in the actual market.
    Defensive midfields:
    Chantome Paris, 10mE. Realy good.
Benoit Cheyrou, 6 mE. Not young, but availlable and realy excellent.
Pedretti, auxerre, 5 to 8 mE, old too (30) but good.
Cabaye, Lille, i will said 8 mE, maybe more, excellent.
Mavuba, Lille, about six or seven mE, the typical french defensive midfield (makelele clone).
Diarra (alou) bordeaux. 7 mE. Very physical, the french team captain.
marveaux (jorris) Montpellier, 5 to 10 mE, ain’t got a clue.
And our new superstar, M’villa, Rennes, at least 12 mE, probably more.

    niafron // Jan 14, 2011 at 7:15 PM
Offensive midfield (most of them are very expansive, i put them just in case):
    Left footed:
Nene, Paris, at least 20 millions considering the incredible season is actually doing.
Bastos, lyon, i think 15 mE, play left side defensor in Brazil national team.
Kim Kallstrom, Lyon, 8 mE, polyvalent, good, don’t play a lot, an ideal target.
Ayew (andre), Marseille, i think 10 to 15 mE.

    Right footed:
Eden Hazard, the best player in France actualy (he is belgian and 20 years old), 25 to 30 mE (you can forget it…).
Payet saint étienne, 10 mE. Young and gifted.
Valbuena, Marseille, maybe less than 9 or 8 mE for his coach is not fond of him (neither am i, but he got a good reputation and i suppose you ‘ve seen him against England two month ago.)
Lucho Gonzales, Marseille, have join the club for 22 or 23 mE, you can maybe have him for less than 20 now for he have advanced in age. Realy good.
Gourcuff, Lyon, was traded last summer for 25 mE, supposed to be a genius, but i will not bet on him.

    Forward:
Hoareau, Paris, about 15 mE. excellent in the air, the Carrol kind, so you don’t need him i guess.
Erding, Paris, about 10 to 12 mE, fast and perfect match to Hoareau so to Caroll equally i suppose.
Remy, marseille, traded this summer for 15 mE, but in difficulty now, so you can have him for 10 to 12 mE maybe, and believe me, he worth that. His coach (Deschamps) he’s just to stupid to put him in his right place (he actually play right midfield.)
Lisandro Lopez, Lyon, 20 mE (maybe 15), a superstar.
Gameiro, Lorient, 10 to 12 mE, but he is Valencia primary target, and have expressed the vow to reach this club. Excellent however.
Roux, Brest, 8 mE maybe, gifted and underestimated, so goog to sign.
Gervinho, Lille, 15 mE, maybe more, another good complement for Carrol.
Sow, Lille, 10 mE, the actual season leader of goal scored in the french championship. Maybe not a top star, but useful. Good target for NUFC.”

Andy from what I have heard from others Tavernier will push Simpson for the starting RB position this coming season. It’s brilliant to finally have some competition at several postions. Dave1961 I don’t see Best as anything more than fourth choice at striker if we get anyone decent in. I would sell Shola and Peter to Championship clubs or maybe Peter would go back to Scotland.

  • 288 Milner // Jul 3, 2011 at 9:13 PM

    sorry, found it now:

Rangers’ interest in Dundee United striker David Goodwillie appears to be cooling, at least for now.

The Ibrox club had a bid of £1m for the 22-year-old rejected by United last week, but it seems certain that they will now focus on other targets.

Cardiff City are favourites to land Scotland’s young player of the year and appear willing to meet the £2m asking price set by chairman Stephen Thompson.

Goodwillie is contracted to the Tannadice club until May 2013.

How many boxers have taken Wlad the full way? Any boxer that does that is a good boxer. Wlad is a good boxer yes but Haye is technically better and more entertaining. Wlad is boring but effective am not taking anything away from him but anyone saying Haye is sh*t is being a idiot imo

Of course Haye came out spouting stuff it was mind games from a boxer. He was disrespected by Wlad for months so why wouldnt he come out talking?

  • 309 GeordieToon89 // Jul 3, 2011 at 9:32 PM

Klitchko was the better boxer hence how Haye couldnt get near him and when he got a good shot on him, Kiltchko just powered with a few left rights.. yes haye can say all this about not being 100% and all tht crap but he just simply wasnt upto the challenge on the night itself, he wasnt attacking him enough.. as soon as Klitchko threw the jab haye should of been jumpin round with a hook on the chin.. hes got the pace and the power to do it he just didnt

Andy Carroll in trouble again …

IT WAS never going to be plain sailing when boozy bad boy England star Andy Carroll took his family on a luxury yachting holiday.

And sure enough, the voyage on the French Riviera turned into a drunken mutiny as the Geordie striker gave his half brother one in the eye-aye.

Carroll Ship of nightmares… Carroll and yacht EMPICS Sport

In the ensuing punch-up, £35 million Liverpool ace Carroll decked Mark Simmonds then sank his teeth into his THUMB as other family members joined in the rum do aboard the chartered £20,000-a- week Indulgence of Poole.

It ended with furious Carroll, 22, ordering battered Mark and his wife Irene, 31, off the boat in the middle of the night. Then he flew everyone else home by private jet next day leaving the couple stranded in the South of France.

They only got back to Newcastle after borrowing money from the yacht’s first mate who handed over some of the £450 tip Carroll had given him.

“I’m still in shock,” Mark, 33, told our source. “Andy just turned on me. I could feel his thumb at the back of my eye and it felt like it was going to pop out.

    Carroll

Carroll Horrific… injuries to half-brother Mark

“He turned on my wife too. Just days earlier we had all enjoyed a lovely meal on board.”

Carroll arranged the family holiday at the end of the season to celebrate becoming Britain’s most expensive footballer after his move from Newcastle to Merseyside.

He took Mark and his other half brother Stephen along, together with Irene and Stephen’s fiancee Leah. Carroll’s girlfriend Stacey Miller, his dad Thomas and mum Susan, mother to his half-brothers, were also on the private jet to Nice in May. Then they all boarded the 85-foot yacht – complete with four staff – for a seven-day Riviera cruise.

Carroll Before the bust-up… Carroll and family

Our source says: “They were all happy. Andy had never treated his family to a holiday together before.”

But, after visiting the Monaco Grand Prix, Cannes and St Tropez, motorway workman Mark suggested everyone should give Carroll and Stacey, 23, time alone together. Our source says: “The rest of the family thought it would seem ungrateful if they just wandered off without Andy.

“On their final day, there was a frosty atmosphere. The silent treatment was so bad Mark and Irene stayed on board while the rest went out in Nice for their last night.”

When they returned at 2.30am, it all kicked off. “Mark asked Leah why nobody was speaking to them,” says our source. “Andy told Mark to leave her alone.

Carroll Brawl at sea… Carroll holiday turned sour Xposurephotos.com

“Before long Andy was punching Mark and Mark was grabbing Andy’s hair. Then Andy pinned Mark to the side of the boat and stuck his thumb in his eye.

“Mark tried to fend him off and bit his thumb. Then Andy’s dad pinned Mark down while Stephen started punching his brother.

“Andy bit Mark’s thumb in revenge. Their mum Susan had to prise Andy off.” Carroll then ordered Mark and Irene off the boat. Our source says: “He was yelling, ‘F*** off back to your scumbag friends, your scumbag house and your scumbag lives. Where are you going to go? You’ve got no money – you’ll soon come crawling back with your tail between your legs.’”

Mark hadn’t enough money for flights home – so he rang the yacht’s first mate who later gave him some of Carroll’s tip. Our source says: “He had seen the fight and said he wanted to help ‘good people’. When Mark got home he tried to play it all down – but he was covered in cuts and bruises and had a septic thumb.” A concerned friend gave the News of the World pictures of his wounds.

Carroll has a history of violence. He had to pay £11,000 to a girl he attacked outside a club in 2008 and was fined £1,000 for gashing another clubber’s face in 2009. In 2010, a training ground incident at Newcastle left team-mate Steven Taylor with a broken jaw. Signing for Liverpool, Carroll said: “I have made mistakes but they are behind me.”

A source close to the player said: “The brothers did have a disagreement and Mark was asked to leave the yacht.

“Perhaps it wasn’t settled in the most friendly of ways, but there are two sides to every story. Andy doesn’t feel he’s the one in the wrong.”

  • 318 WWJBD // Jul 3, 2011 at 9:38 PM

haha then I direct you towards my 1 question, if he was so shite last night how was it that Wlad couldnt knock him out in 12 rounds?

Aye again I agree I think he bottled it a bit but whether his toe did hinder his ability to fully push on at the speed he normally would we will never really know.

I cant see him getting a rematch though so I can see him retiring now

  • 324 patty518 // Jul 3, 2011 at 9:40 PM

Did anyone else watching that video of erding think they were watching a video of the White oba martins? Tricky, pacey and likes a shot from anywhere with minimal success?! Hmmmmm would prob be exciting to watch but for me, Defoe has to be best option! Granted wages would be an issue but he scores goals! With our attacking talent we need an out and out finisher. He would be perfect for the number 9.
Shane long is not worth 10m! Never done it in prem and had one decent season in champ! So did ebanks Blake couple years back. He scored 35 I think but struggled in prem massively.
Problem any club has in signing a striker is that the proven prem ones cost big bucks.

  • 325 GeordieToon89 // Jul 3, 2011 at 9:40 PM

Haye wasnt sh*te last night he just wasnt focussed enough and wasnt using his ability to expose Wlad at every opportunity he had.. he proved he could hit him when he cut him under his eye and next to his nose he just wasnt consistant enough and when he was it was too late

  • 326 WWJBD // Jul 3, 2011 at 9:42 PM

No am asking how you can say he was shite when he lasted 12 rounds with a man who is known for knocking boxers out

How can anyone say he was shite? If he was he would of been TKOd in round 1

  • 327 GeordieToon89 // Jul 3, 2011 at 9:42 PM

a dont think he’l get a rematch neither but a could see him getting a fight against Vitali who imo is a better fighter than Wlad.. older yes but wiser

  • 328 Nick 69 // Jul 3, 2011 at 9:42 PM

anyone who knows anything about boxing at all know Haye is clearly the better and more skilled boxer. But he was up against a giant, who had a solid game plan which he stuck to. He was giving away 2 stone FFS, just because he lost doesnt mean he is sh!te and doesnt mean Klitschko is the better boxer. At the end of the day Flloyd Mayweather would lose against a lot of the super middleweight division etc, but that wouldn’t make them better boxers.

They both had a gameplan, and both stuck to it, and Wlad’s gameplan was the one that worked.

And GeordieToon89 its ok you sittin in your armchair shouting Haye should of just jumped round and hooked him when he through the jab, but im guessing that when you’ve got a 17+ stone man jabbing you in the face from 81 inches away, its a little more difficult

  • 329 WWJBD // Jul 3, 2011 at 9:47 PM

I thought Vitali said he would only fight Haye if Haye had beaten Wlad? Might be remembering wrong like

Aye Nick69 thats what am trying to get at, I have a issue with people saying Haye was sh*t last night because he wasent he just didnt get the win.

  • 364 DJM TOON // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:11 PM

give me a top half finish and dont care about what happens in the cups as long as we dont get humiliated… a la birmingham couple of seasons ago!

  • 365 WWJBD // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:12 PM

Pardew is a decent enough managers so far I really hope he keeps that up next season I think he could be a good thing for NUFC if all goes well

I think he got a feel for what he could be to us during the West Brom game when the level 7 lads chanted for him…probably the first time he felt accepted by St James

  • 366 eaststandgeordie1982 // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:12 PM

Davybtoon hope its for a big fee we will get mbengue in i reckon

  • 367 WWJBD // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:13 PM

    belfast
Yeah mate I just dont want to end up being next seasons Birmingham

  • 368 AndyMac // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:13 PM

    FAO Niafron

Apart from his age (26) what’s preventing Valbuena from playing on a bigger stage ? He looks like an all round player and a “right sided” HBA. NUFC could certainly use his talents but why isnt he being linked with moves away from Marseille ?

  • 369 belfastmagpie87 // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:14 PM

as long as ashleys here, pardew will be here.
    thats what i think anyway.
the majority of top managers. no ashelys a c@nt to work for.

  • 370 WWJBD // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:15 PM

Jose has been signing for Liverpool on a daily basis since January hasent he? Oh no its Arsenal….or Man City….or Munich….or was it Barca?

The kid must of made us millions by signing for all these teams!

  • 371 hitman // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:15 PM

    davybtoon // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:11 PM

on ssn rumour page n other forums on web

WTF,do you believe that shite like..

  • 372 Andy // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:15 PM

Hopefully with the singing section being split up it’ll leave more singers dotted about the stadium to really get the atmosphere going. It’s not been the same for years and we need to make SJP into a fortress again. We should fear nobody at home and they should fear coming into a full 52,000 screaming fanatical crowd. Here’s hoping!
Also Pardew seems to me that he is a bit of an egotistical guy the way he talks about people sometimes. All the best managers are, atm anyway Mourinho, Wenger, Ferguson

  • 373 eaststandgeordie1982 // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:15 PM

Pards needs to beat the shite at home snd we will do well next season sort the home form out and if we can do the same or better away we are laughing if not we are proper fcked like ze germans

  • 374 AndyMac // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:15 PM

    WWJBD says:

“Pardew is a decent enough managers so far I really hope he keeps that up next season I think he could be a good thing for NUFC if all goes well

I think he got a feel for what he could be to us during the West Brom game when the level 7 lads chanted for him…probably the first time he felt accepted by St James”

Was that before or after he’d managed to lose a three goal lead through his calamitous substitutions :(

  • 375 JackButler // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:16 PM

As I said i thinks he’s done ok so far, just hope he is strong enough to stand up to MA, i don’t think he’s the puppet that many seem think he is. He has a massive opportunity at a massive club

  • 376 davybtoon // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:19 PM

jose definetely wont stay, anyone see toulose bought new left back so mbengue cud back on
also coozy wrote on his twitter that his mate seen defoe in toon last nyt

  • 377 WWJBD // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:20 PM

We lost a 3 nil lead to a team we are on par with while Pardew was in charge

Arsenal lost a 4 nil lead to a team they are far better than while Wenger was in charge

That means Pardew is a better manager than Wenger

Players lose matches not managers am afraid only bad sub Pardew made was Smith during the West Brom match imo

  • 378 JackButler // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:21 PM

    WWJBD

thats the first time that anyone has said that pardew is better than wenger lol

  • 379 WWJBD // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:23 PM

    JB
haha I know just goes to show stats can be made to make any point you want haha

  • 380 Andy // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:23 PM

Pardew probably thinks it as well

  • 381 davybtoon // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:23 PM

dont see what problem with pardew is he made us a lot stronger defensively n we played sum good stuff

  • 382 samag // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:23 PM

    my massiveness is so massive.

pardew has bitten off more than he can chew when it comes to the newcastle job. he he’s lucky he’s got such a high profile job. not in a million years would we have him here. But here he is and he’ll need our support more.

It can only come from the fans as AP has no idea about who is going where in the transfers and likely he knows even less about the players. Thats been left to carr no doubt. Can’t image who’d look at erding seriously tho.

here’s hoping our well covered midfield ship 25 goals between them.

  • 383 eaststandgeordie1982 // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:24 PM

We drew 0-0 with manure when pardew was in charge fergie your shite lol

  • 384 WWJBD // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:25 PM

    Andy
Would you prefer he thought he was worse than Wenger? Id rather have a manager who believes in himself :)

  • 385 eaststandgeordie1982 // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:26 PM

Erding is a good striker and would do well here

  • 386 Andy // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:28 PM

WWJBD not at all! I quite like confidence in managers and players. Just not as much as Bendter!

  • 387 belfastmagpie87 // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:28 PM

i dont mind pardew to be honest.
feel a bit sorry, for him at times.
    pretending he makes the decisions
and knows whats going on.when he clearly dosent.lol

  • 388 WWJBD // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:29 PM

    thats the spirit eaststand haha

Only top 6 manager we cant slag off is Mancini

  • 389 09nufc09 // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:29 PM

Davybtoon… Jose is in newcastle and will be in training tomorowaccording to the ne journos. Jose said he wanted cl if he leaves newcastle so liverpool is not an option if thats the case. Liverpool will not qualify for the cl with the quality of player they are signing, henderson is shocking and there best players bar suarez are on the way out. I think carroll will suffer alot of injuries because when he jumps he lands very heavy and his legs were already suffering last season. Man u, man city, chelsea and arsenal for the cl and its out of alot of clubs for euro lg.

  • 390 WWJBD // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:30 PM

Andy haha aye but Bendtner as a manager…..thats a scary thought!

belfast I agree with ya I still think Pardew only found out Nolan was away when he saw it on SSN

  • 391 eaststandgeordie1982 // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:31 PM

    Or kenny yet anyway

  • 392 AndyMac // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:31 PM

“Players lose matches not managers am afraid only bad sub Pardew made was Smith during the West Brom match imo”

and on that basis players win matches as well ? So wtf the point in having Manager’s ?

You are a muppet WWJBD and so is Pardwho so you’re in good company :)

  • 393 Spike // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:35 PM

I think Pardieu is owned by Ashley for his gambling debts.

Does what he is told, says what he is told to. I wish he would shut up sometimes though.

A couple of bad results he could get the boot, but with his 5 and a half year contract that he went on about for a couple of months he would probably get a couple of thousand pound pay off

  • 394 WWJBD // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:36 PM

    AndyMac

Actually plans. formations and a bit of luck often win matches. Managers make up the plans and formations players often get lost on the pitch which ends in losses. Managers cant go out on the pitch during the game to win a match….unless you watch a different version of football to me mate

And I quite like the muppets ta (Animal was my favourite if your that interested) but no I never starred in the show am afraid

  • 395 belfastmagpie87 // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:36 PM

    haha.your probly right m8.

  • 396 09nufc09 // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:39 PM

Alan smith changed the wba game, hes the worst player we have including perch lol.
When your defenders are used to tiote infront of them who always stays on his feet, it is a shock when smith comes on and spends more time on his arse than on his feet. He came on with about 5 mins to go in a game last season and i bet the lad next to me he would get booked before the whistle, within 2 mins he was booked and give away a freekick on the edge of the box. Shocking.

  • 397 hitman // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:40 PM

haha, defoe would get a nose bleed if he moved north of the watford gap..he got home sick at portsmouth ffs :)

  • 398 Spike // Jul 3, 2011 at 10:43 PM

Alan Smith is the new Nicky Buttcheek.

All they can do is bring someone down on the edge of the box, get booked and give away a free kick.

    At least, that’s my perception

  • 399 ross armstrong // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:07 PM

shane long news ?? erding news ?? any1? out the 2 i want erding but i wud take any as long looks a handful

  • 400 ross armstrong // Jul 3, 2011 at 11:12 PM

there sayn erding will not turn down a move to the toon if the bid is accepted!!! haway ashley get him signed!!!!! ba and erding sounds rather tasty

  • 401 marshy // Jul 4, 2011 at 10:31 AM

magpie 6699 you must admit it would be nice to get players in early so they can gel into the squad as soon as possible.
