Enrique Still Going And Wayne Bridge Not Coming

The Newcastle United squad return to pre-season training today.

Jose Enrique – still on his way?

And the news is that manager Alan Pardew will hold showdown talks with Jose Enrique over his long-term future on Tyneside.

Now when have we heard that one before?

The news for the last couple of months has been that Newcastle have offered Jose a bumper five year contract, but Jose and his representatives have been avoiding discussing it with Newcastle.

Hey, if Jose wants to move on he should leave, and Newcastle should sell him this summer – it’s as simple as that.

Enrique first said he would have contract negotiations with Newcastle, once the club were safe in the Premier League, but then didn’t do that and has refused to say if he wants to go or if he wants to stay at Newcastle.

Enrique just yesterday was linked with a move to Liverpool or Arsenal, and the news was that Liverpool may try to buy him this week to fend off possible interest from the London club, after they agreed to sell Gail Clichy to Manchester City for £7M.

It seems that Jose wants to play European Champions League football, and his ambition is to make the full Spanish side, and he thinks he can do that with a club with a higher European profile than Newcastle have right now.

And it seems the news yesterday in the Sunday Mirror that Wayne Bridge would be coming for a season long loan seems not to be true.

That’s a pity because it even made some sense for Newcastle to bring Wayne in as a one year replacement for Jose, and then Shane Ferguson (or Neil Taylor if we can get him in from Swansea) could have taken over next summer.

It would have given the two youngsters a year to mature and become better players, before one of them became the first choice left back at Newcastle .

Oh well – you win some you lose some.

No way will Bridge be coming here – too old, too high of wages and more importantly he is sh**e.

I think the Bridge rumour was pure press speculation. For a start, has anybody seen how much wedge he is on? Ludicrous for somebody who rarely kicks a ball in anger, and when he does he is proven to be one of the most over rated players in the world.

hate to see players being slagged off on this site but i have to be honest i think pheonixnights is right about bridge but why would we sign him at his age when we refused to give nolan and barton who are younger than he is

im actually on Enriques side with this i dont blame him for wanting to see the club actually commit and show ambition before he commits its kind of fair, but i will be annoyed to see him go cause hes absolute class so lets just see how it goes hes in training today cant avoid the club anymore and will no doubt see progress with this before America tour as if he says no to the contract he will be sold as Ashley doesnt seem to do secondary offers, as for bridge he is just plain bad at football now the way he fell apart consistently while on loan at WHam used to be good but now hes jst
too expensive too old and too $hit

Both Liverpool and Arsenal want Enrique on the cheap. Ignore all the multi-mill numbers quoted in the press.
Same with Barton – Arsenal don’t want to fork out more than a couple of mill, and Newcastle for once are saying “NO”

I fail to see why Jose would want to join Liverpool rather than stay with us? Arsenal I can understand they’re in the Champions League but Liverpool will essentially be in the same position as us next season. Is there squad that much better than ours? Can he be on that much bigger wages there than here? He’s a quality left back, arguably a better all round left-back than Clichy due to his defensive abilities as well as his attacking options. I don’t want him to go, but if he wants to then we should get as much money as we can for him or hold onto him for the last year of his contract. He’ll be immense if trying to put himself in the shop window for the next transfer window.

I think the club already have a LB lined up 2 replace Enrique, and its not Naylor who’ll be the backup. This is why they’ve let this drag on,just waiting for the ‘right’ offer.

Of couse Enrique is going. He just doesn’t want to ask for a transfer and lose his 15% – exactly the same as Zog. Both are in the last year of their contracts and they, their own clubs and buying clubs know they aint signing a new contract.

Zog (I hope) wants to come here and Enrique wants to go to LPool – so us and LPool are both playing the same game. Us and Wigan will have to sell before the end of this window because by January – with only 6 months left on Zog and Enrique’s contracts – both us and Wigan will be lucky to get £3M.

My bet is we’ll get Zog for £5M-£6M and LPool will get Enrique for about the same or even a bit less. Left backs don’t win you Championships or Cups but goal scoring wingers do.

STILL GOING? who ever said he was leaving, not jose not his representitives not pardew not ashley not llambias in fact nobody the only thing that was said was they havent been able to get jose to ‘come to the table’ cant say i blame the lad like joey and kev he is probobly waiting to see the cash being spent and making sure whoever gets brought in doesnt get a better contract than the one hes being offered.

  • Can’t believe some want Ferguson to play LB, he is such a natural left winger and has huge potential and that potential imo will be spoilt if he’s put in at LB.

    As for Jose….. yawn.

Until a couple of weeks ago, I could understand Jose waiting to see the club’s intent. But now, after seeing the new signings, I reckon he should be in a position to judge &
Either sign or show respect for the club and state your intentions so we know which way to go.

For all the complaints about not spending much money – what matters for the moment is the quality of players we have brought in – and quickly. That is there for all (and Jose) to see.

Hopefully we are far from done in the transfer market, but I still think we have shown enough already to show Jose it’s time to move his situation forward.

I would say it is too early to judge Jose on his quiteness. He has all his right to sit out and what to see what is happening to this club before he actually signs a new contract OR decide to join another club.

If he decides to leave, lets say next January if the club fail to match his ambitions than OK, but we also may have the scenario that we bring a new couple of players in and he also might sign in late august.

So I think it is way too early to judge him. I rather want him to be quiet and sign late august than seeing him leave tomorrow. I would think more of a quiet Jose than a twittering bitch like Joey!

What exactly has Jose done wrong to warrant this animosity towards him when hes been such a great player for us. He’s been on holiday so why should be be thinking about his contract after a long, hard and successful season.

If he stays and signs a long term deal he would be my number 1 pick for captain.

if Enrique has a little respect for this club and the fans he shld hv had the decision n made it known now, give us the time to find a replacement. if it has taken him so long to make up his mind, he’s probably not worth keeping. wrap up N.Taylor deal n look for a new LB pls asap. M’Bengue for 6m or loan deal for Bertrand or 3-4m for Danny Rose? Fergie shld be used on the LW, a waste of his attacking talent n weak physique as a LB

Forget to add, hell no to Bridge, the guy is past it and was probably one of the worst players in an awful relegated West Ham team.

Mactoon: I agree with you about Ferguson, he would be wasted at LB. That’s what Zog got fed up with the first time round, the fact that the only time he got a game in the first team was at left back.

As for those slagging off Jose, go and support somebody else. We don’t need supporters attacking our players when they’ve done nought wrong except play so well for the toon that they are in high demand. I hope he stays but we can’t blame somone as good as him wanting to play CL football.

Everyone’s talking about how Jose ‘must make up his mind’. I think he made up his mind a while back. It’s his suitors who haven’t – Liverpool etc. After a few good years with Toon, Jose’s decided it’s time for a change. Sh@t happens, let’s get someone else in pronto. Not Wayne Bridge ideally, going by recent performances, and besides – he doesn’t speak French.
