Pardew – We Are Working Very Hard In Transfer Market

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has sensibly reminded the fans today that the Newcastle transfer season should be judged only when the transfer window slams shut on Wednesday, August 31st.

Alan Pardew – welcome squad back today

Newcastle have four good players through the door already in Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye, Sylvain Marveaux and Mehdi Abeid and have lost Sol Campbell (£45K/week), Shefki Kuqi and captain Kevin Nolan (£50K/week) to West Ham United.

Pardew is said to want to bring two new faces to the squad still, but surely if Spanish left-back Jose Enrique and Liverpudlian midfielder Joey Barton leave the club, they will have to be replaced?

Alan Pardew is welcoming the Newcastle squad back to the Benton training fields today, and they will start to build up their fitness for the American tour, which they will start in about two weeks.

Newcastle will play a friendly game at Darlington Arena in eleven days time, as their first pre-seaosn friendly, before they embark on their three game American tour.

This is what the manager told the local Newcastle press today:

“We are delighted with the additions so far, but we are still working hard in the market.”

“Work in the transfer market can only be judged on August 31.”

We’d like to see at least 7 new players brought in this summer, and we already have four, but if Enrique and Barton leave the club, that should go up to 9 players.

We expect both top leave the club before September, but we’d also be absolutely delighted if  Jose signs his new deal at Newcastle, and Joey stays on at Newcastle, at least for one more year – but that’s unlikely to happen.

What do you think?

Comments always welcome.

I would still prefer signings that have actually played in the Premier League… Like Zoggy and Sturridge.

I’m guessing Pards wants to bring two new faces in and that’s not counting if Barton or Enrique leaves. So, if any of our current squads leave they will be replaced along with the two new faces and I hope the two new faces he is talking about are Erding and N’Zogbia, but the longer it goes on I’m losing confidence that we are even after N’Zogbia.

dont think that jose and bad boy, loud mouthed Barton will stay?, despo need to sign some top quality striker(s) before any other cheating club(scumpool or harrys hangouts) beat us to them, not to mention the unwashed down the road, still plenty of time but will need to move quickly! Cant blame Barton for his comments on twatter as I agree with the Parker story, he is better but he has to admit he will always be last choice for his country in case he beats the dressing room up lol, STRIKERS please Pards, tell the fcb to sort himself oot!!!!

ANyone have any news on Zog? Are we going to miss out on him too??

PS Hope your feeling better Ed, keep up the good work ma man!!

I think we will probably lose 3-4 players going out (Best,Smith,Jose,Ranger).. so would need 5-6 still in if this happens as we were short on numbers towards end of season which was worrying! Id hope for a Striker (Erding ,Sturrridge) Winger (N’Zogbia) experienced defender (Brown, Upson) Left Back (Taylor, Bridge) then couple squad players just to baulk up squad!

7 new players sound good, just worried how the players will adapt. Hopefully Cabaye can bring in some winning mentality. Our midfield could be made of 3 frenchmen + Tiote. Nice work.

if no-one else leaves then i’m happy with 2 more players in, make one a kick ass number 9… defoe would be a good shout, well proven etc and with the service our midfield will be providing, he’ll be a hit… his age and wage makes that a non-starter there though.

so yeah, its likely to be erding and naylor but y’know… lets give the club their dues… they'[ve made some great acquisitions, some of which we’ve known nothing about until NUFC have released details so i’m happy to sit and wait it out for another month or so

Also, let’s not forget that Ashleys plan says he will pump 20m in for new players every season, and along with the 35m from the Carroll money we shouldn’t have any problems getting any of our targets. But, this is Newcastle and everything under this regime seems tricky and full of wheeling & dealing. I like the progress we’ve made so far, but since it came fast, which is unusual I started to believe the hype, now it’s been two weeks with no signings and I’m starting to get frustrated by the lack of progress we are actually making in the market. Fair enough, we got in all our freebies, but let’s start making some serious bids for the targets we are after and appease fans by spending some money and show our ambition to the likes of Enrique.

To the person who said that Enrique has been offered the Captains armband is full of sh1te! Why would we offer the Captains armband to somebody who seemingly doesn’t want to play for us anymore? Just doesn’t make sense. You have to give the armband to someone who plays with their heart on their sleeve and is fully commited. Saylor/Colo/Barton come to mind. They have to be the only candidates for the armband.

Joey’s not going anywhere unless arsenal offer mike something like 10mil ( barton will ONLY leave if he gets europe offered ) and up till now thats only arsenal.

I also think that erding would be good but for the same price ( give or take a million ) we could get defoe… I know he is old and relies on his speed, but who here can say theres a better option for around 10milllion. And is premier league proven top scorer. Not many, another is berbatov I know I know we dont want has beens but just think with ba’s tap ons berbatov would always be there to tap it in. And it will give airey time to get ready.

If he is as good as everyone says. We shouldnt give anyone the shirt till he is promoted surely he can fill it better than judas and maybe even hit the next level and become another homegrown legend

Ed – i don’t know why you seem so sure that Barton will leave, he’s said countless times that he’s going nowhere unless a champions league team come in. Joey will quite happily stay here and run down his contract, even just so Ashley doesn’t get that extra few million quid in his pocket form the transfer fee. I know players say there not going anywhere, then leave a few days later, but Joey Barton is one of the only men in football who speaks the truth, and he will not let Ashley force him out the club if he doesn’t want to leave

Realistically is Wenger going to sign Barton? Doubt it, he only offers one year extensions to thirty year olds so can anyone see him signing him for a year only with the option to renew for a year. Doubt it. I don’t see a problem with Joeys comments either, he’s only saying what we are all thinking and its not like we have to play west ham this season. It’s a tad disrespectful but he’s only reacting to negative comments and I honestly don’t care. Parker isn’t as good as everyone makes out but his face fits.

i don’t even think Joey’s comments are disrespectful, he’s just confident in his own ability and thinks he’s a better player, which he is. Not like he’s being arrogant and saying he’s the best, he openly admits if a player is better than him i.e Modric, Nasri and Wilshere. People slag him for saying he’s better than Parker, yet nobody gives him any credit for praising the other 3, and saying how talented they are.

Simple fact is we have SIX new players already for next season.

Ben Arfa and Gosling were hardly part of the squad last season but will be a major part this season. Just because we didn’t sign them in this window doesn’t mean we haven’t got two additional first team players – we have, period.

We’ve only sold one first team player – Nolan – so we are five up before anymore selling and buying. That is the way MA and AP will look at it. If Barton and Enrique go and we sign two we are still five up. If one of those is Erdinc we will have four first team forwards – Ben Arfa (because that is where AP has said he will play), Ba, Ameobi and Erdinc. I still think Erdinc, Zog and Taylor will sign so in total that will leave us with six extra first team players if Barton and Enrique go – and I think Barton will stay unless one of the big five sign him.

As AP says – judge him at the end of the window. Thats still nearly two months away and alot of the action will come in the last 1-3 weeks.

Not having a go at Pards, but what exactly does he have to work hard on? I don’t really know what goes on behind the scenes to get a player signed. Isn’t it just put a bid in and wait for the club to accept?

we must be at least trying to see if we can do some good price deals for players we have followed, players like matuidi saying they knew we were inquiring about them and payet who went to lille for nigh on 14m admitted we spoke to him about a move. we apparently along with man utd bid 9m for raphael varane and hes ended up at real madrid. we were linked with mangala and now suddenly there is talk of arsenal after him so its not like we havnt tried for some good players, not to mention the zog.

This is Toonspeak for “We’re still wading through millions of players contracts to see if there are any buy out clauses for less than £5m ” 🙁

  • “Simple fact is we have SIX new players already for next season.”

Twice as many brains and you’d be a half-wit.

Fact? It is not a fact, we have 4 new signings now that is a fact, both HBA and Gosling were in our squad last season, that is another fact!

Am I allowed to dream of Kagawa Shinji? Know he’d probably wouldn’t leave die Borussen but wow what a talent! I suppose that the role he plays is also filled at the club, but it could allow some rotation for benny.

    well i can dream.

I’ve always rated Gosling highly as well, so really intrigued to see where he fits into the pard’s schemes. And he’s practically a new signing with the added bonus of already knowing the clubs players and being comfortably settled. There will be no fitting in time!

    Don’t talk b%ll%x.

Gosling isn’t ‘returning to the side’ because apart from a 10 minute sub appearance he never played and Ben Arfa hardlly played either.

Think what you like – both will be like new players for us this season and I would think 90% of supporters will feel the same.
