Alan Pardew has said last night he is still hopeful that Joey Barton could sign a new deal that keeps him on Tyneside beyond next summer.
Joey Barton – could he get a new deal on Tyneside?
Joey has one year left on his contract, and seems determined to stay on Tyneside for that year, and this is what Newcastle manager Pardew had to say about Joey last night:
“The important thing for him is that he sees the squad has quality.”“We can keep him where he was last year, another season. “
“Who is to say we can’t agree a deal?” “He wants success. If we can give him that on the pitch, I think he could stay.”
You’ve got to think that Alan is talking to Mike Ashley on Joey Barton, and he would hardly be saying these things if there was no chance of Joey getting a new deal on Tyneside.
However, Joey has also been put up for sale for £4M, so we’re not really sure what to think – but Joey would do well to stop those tweets.
😀
Alan doesn’t seem to be so positive on Jose Enrique, as he had this to say about the Spaniard:
“No one is more keen for him to stay than me. His desire to play Champions League football at his age means it is difficult to keep him. We must keep watching and hope it falls our way.”
The most recent news is that Liverpool will try to take him, maybe this week, but they are not in Europe next season, and they may find it hard to match Newcastle’s bumper five year deal the club have offered Jose to stay at Newcastle.
We’d love it if both players could stay on at Newcastle for the next several seasons – just love it!
Comments welcome.

Comment #42Newcastle fans are going to be taken on a ride this window again.
Seems like Keegan was right when he said no chance in hell the 35million will be used for transfers. how damn right he was.
Lies upon lies. Thank god we sold Carroll. Or we won’t be buying anyone.

Your last post makes no sense.
You state that there is no chance the 35mill will be spent but then imply we only “bought” 4 players due to the sale of Andy Carroll. Kind of an oxymoron if you ask me…
Yes the nolan cash makes up for the money spent on Cabaye and therefore implying we should have 35mill still. The fact that Judas was sold so far has had very minimal affect on who we brought in (affects Ba only really…)

Comment #44god i used to enjoy coming on this blog and getting the banter from all of you, but for the last few weeks something has happened to all of you, none of you are ever happy everyone is always moaning about lack of spend, has there been an offer in fenwicks for rose tinted and tunnel vision glasses cos you all seem to have a pair, perhaps you should all get off your computers and support the team and be real fans and let the running of the club to the people who have control of it nobody on this blog has any REAL say of who does doesn’t stay, how much gets spent, what it gets spent on so why don’t you all stop pretending to be the next best football manager and do what TOON fans do best , what does it matter if we spend £50 or £50 million on one player either way they can be flops, who would you rather have Micheal Owen our highest priced signing and self confessed Complete flop or Mike Williamson for £1.1 million and has played some cracking games and played with more heart in 1 year than Owen showed in 4 years Nowt so fikkle as fans sometimes but you just have to be pleased with what you have sometimes!!

Comment #46Most of the lot here seem to fixate on the ”35 million” rather than the players brought in…In the current transfer window a Henderson and a wickham and u’ve blown the whole ’35 million’..And if we approach the window like liverpool we’ll be paying two horses 4 a donkey and for their outlay of 75 million on three players only the urugayan is justified…and god help them if they don’t crack the CL next year

Why are you desperate for Joey to stop tweeting? When there’s no news we get upset (or even make up things) that they don’t put us in the know. His honesty may be brutal at times, but what a breath of fresh air. Barton for captain!

I completely agree with you, and I have said it before, I’m sick to death of hearing you all harp on about the £35m and how we should have spent it all now and we can’t move forward without spending it all, and more.
Today is the 5th July, the transfer window is 5 days old.
Because a player is signed on a ‘free’ means they are crap?
I’m glad we sold AC, just for all his off field crap, he won’t see a full season for Liverpool, he’ll be in prison.
I don’t care what a players pricetag is, its what they are capable of on the pitch, just coz you spend big money don’t make them better players.

Comment #50Toonmania its not that we want trophy signings like Owen was, we had a small squad and despite what many people said we are no better off on numbers because Campbell, Ireland and Kuqi despite being on loan did play games for us. Campbell and Kuqi shouldn’t be able to get anywhere near our starting eleven so it shows we have a weak squad. I said in my original post I’ll judge them at the end of the window but if we enter the season with an understength squad I won’t be pleased and all will get talked about is what could have been and who could have come in. This is only natural when your receiving an unexpected lump sum of 30 million.

Comment #52I am getting increasingly frustraited of how my fellow fans get hung up on 35 m for Carroll and what Mr Ashley is doing with it !!! , Do you all understand how much trouble the club where in before he took of OUR club !! We should all be applauding Mike and thanking him for giving the club a financial foot hold with the oppertunity of growth with not paying millions out on wages , with regards to NOLAN , he left for money why else move to a second rate London league a league below , with regards to Joey Barton — one good season i would rive him to his next club to get his salary of the accounts , Ashley and Pardew have been prudent and gettting good young players to the club on small fees / salaries hope fully he can get another 3 and we will be fine its about building for the future and consolidating a mid table position , articles on her about Europe and Champs league are ridiculas

Good points and a voice of reason, though not sure how old you are. If you do remember our meteoric rise 15 years ago when we came up and immediately competed for the PL, played champions league and attracted players like Ginola, you’ll understand why people here hope and dream. They’ve seen it before!

Comment #57i don’t care if the entire 35million is spent on the team. Some here are right, more money doesn’t mean lesser quality.
All some of us are asking for, is signings of players like Matthew Upson, DJ Campbell, Odemwingie and maybe Victor Obinna. That’s all. I’ll be happy.

Comment #62MacToon – when he speaks of 5 players, he IS actually including HBA and Gosling, He said the other day, we have 3 new players, plus Ben Arfa and Gosling coming back so in actual fact we have 5 new players.
I agree with you and had the same argument on here with someone who agreed HBA and Gosling count as new players. They DON’T. Fact is its just Pardew trying to sugar coat the fact we wont be spending, and making it look as thought we’ve brought more players in.

Comment #65to everybody who is happy about the fact that wages and signing on fees etc are coming out of the Carroll money. Does that mean you are also happy to accept that if we hadn’t of sold Carroll, we wouldn’t have even been able to afford to sign free transfers this summer? Because that is pretty much what they are saying

Comment #66To set the record straight on ‘5 new signings’
http://www.nufcblog.com/2011/06/30/alan-pardew-happy-with-his-five-new-signings/
This is what Alan Pardew, who is preparing to welcome back the squad on American Independence day, had to say today:
“I am really pleased with the way the squad is taking shape. I’m excited.” “You could say we have got five new players who we didn’t have last year.”
“We have obviously lost Kevin Nolan, but we have gained Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba, Sylvain Marveaux – and then there is Hatem Ben Arfa and Dan Gosling.”
“Hatem could be the best signing if he stays fit all year, and we are looking forward to seeing what Dan can do as well.”
So i would be happy if you all shut up about that and stopped reading into things to much!
And secondly, after the Marveaux signing every person on this blog was chuffed to bits with our transfer window so far. There is still a long way to go………
Thirdly, players who sign on frees do command very high sign on fees, fact. I reckon the signing on fees of Marv and Ba add to about 2m, plus around another half million for Cabaye. I know that this is not a huge chunk of the 35m, however you guys are once again reading to deeply into this. He only says that part of the 35m has been spent. And yes i will be disapointed if we dont spend 20-30m, i am just saying dont judge yet.
Im sick to death of this blog right now tbh. I wish people would give balanced opinions untill the end of the window, then you can say what you like! This is like judging who will win a 100m sprint 5m in!!!

Comment #68They may be like new players but we’ve still paid them for a year without anything in return, that should bugger up all you guys who like to work out what our players have earnt per game like you did with Barton. Signing both of them was a risk and we are yet to know if the gamble will pay off.
Otterspocket: agree with what your saying with regards to panic buys but it wouldn’t take a great deal to imrpove our squad so I think the right players are available. DJ Campbell for example would cost peanuts but would be a better option than shola or loven. Not a great step up but a step up. if Routldge goes we don’t have anyone for the right wing, Simmo needs replacing or competition and we need cover for Jose, one more striker and possibly a centreback wouldn’t go amiss either. That’s four maybe five players more for a good squad.
If we Marvaux stays fit him and fergie could have the left wing and Jonas and routledge can have the right wing. If nobody else leaves then we need cover for Jose and Simmo. Kadar might make the step up at CB but I think him and willo look fairly weak. Best, Ba and Arfa should do ok upfront but I think we need to bring someone else in and then release/sell Smith/perch and co to counter the increase in wages.

‘what does it matter if we spend £50 or £50 million on one player either way they can be flops’
This is a cringeworthy comment-you are the perfect fan for MA as it appears he holds the same opinion. I haven’t read any comments on this thread or on any other where people expect 50m on one player, but it is a common argument among you apologists to claim that anyone questioning the net spend so far this summer is demanding we blow the lot on marquee signings, which just isn’t the case.
It matters that we spend cash on players because the players with proven PL experience tend to cost-but not all of them are 10m plus as our Ginger neighbours have shown us with the signing of Gardner-to me an ideal replacement for Nolan and affordable.
As for those who think it reasonable to spend our budget on wages and ground maintenance-absolute woodenheaded tomfoolery-yes thats you davybtoon, yesterday you were listing the players you wanted us to sign-today its ok that we sign nobody else and settle for our budget being squandered. Can’t you get it into your head that at every other club the transfer budget is seperate to the budget for wages and maintenance-it is a cover up to help MA achieve his goal of recuperating his losses.
As for PArdews comments-how kind of him to justify in advance the future sale of assets when we inevitably don’t reach the top 6. In other words, if Ba scores 10-15 goals before january and the club are not in the top half of the table, will it be reasonable to sell him like we did Carrol?

Your opinion isn’t balanced as you overlook the right we have to criticise MA given his past record and given the lack of communication and integrity shown to us fans. The frustration and the division among fans are direct symptoms of MA’s disrespectful refusal to communicate and lay out a cohesive footballing strategy-instead we have to make sense of Pardew’s cryptic and inconsistent comments-how can we rely on Pardew’s information when he has been consistently undermined by our owner. But then some will sugar coat all he says-my point is that I have the right to judge MA NOW as he lost the privelege long ago of being innocent until proven guilty.

Comment #72Mac – i kinow, i cant actually believe how many fans agree and are counting HBA and Gosling as new signings, they were part of our squad last season, and in actual fact, HBA turned out to play a pretty important part, as he was the difference between us finishhin where we did or finishing 14th with 2 less points
