Are You Satisfied With Newcastle Transfer Business – So Far?

Just to take a pulse on how our readers think the transfer market is going we’ll take a poll.

Alan Pardew – more players will come in

Alan Pardew is right when he says judge the transfer window should be judged when the window actually closes.

We have to remember that most transfer business takes place in August and in that last week too, and a lot of deals occur on the very last day in August too.

So bear that in mind.

As a reminder this is what Newcastle have done so far this summer:

OUT:

Sol Campbell
Shefki Kuqi
Kevin Nolan – £4.5M – West Ham

IN:

Yohan Cabaye – £4.5M – Lille
Demba Ba – free agent – West Ham
Sylvain Marveaux – free agent – Rennes
Mehdi Abeid – free agent – Lens

And a nice win by the England Women side, who beat Japan 2-0 and they win their group – not too bad at all.

I voted yes but with one caveat we need to buy a striker and preferably someone who will get the fans excited.

    Resounding YES
Hmm we’ve spent money on Cabaye a French international, Marveaux even the Mackems think he’s a good player see how many assists he got for Gyan when he was at Rennes and Ba who scored 7 in 12 for a struggling team.
We’ve lost Nolan our captain, I’ll miss him an excellent captain but at times he was a liability. Where would he fit in the starting 11 next year? 4m recouped
Campbell 7 league appearance most of which he was poor and Kuqi who seemed a great guy but 0 goals and only 6 appearances. They can be replaced by the likes of Kadar and Airey next season.

Happy with the new signings the outs were as expected so far.
BUT we must sign a decent striker and not some journeyman striker like cole,
With the new signings and a decent striker we can really push on

the OUT has been understandable. the IN has been very interesting, they are likely to be talented players out there to prove their worth. all we miss is a really talented striker, preferably a no.9 material. but we havent signed dinosaurs like robbie keane, crouch etc, instead our squad is showing a promise, rather than a pensioner’s asylum look. one talented striker, and if barton is neutralised, maybe a influential leader would help.

Definitely satisfied with the transfers we’ve brought in. They are quality players and I believe they will all play thier parts this season, even Abeid. But, I will not be satisfied if we don’t continue to improve the squad. We have every chance this year to really make an impact on our final league position aslong as we continue building a quality side throughout all ranks of the First team, Reserve team, Youth team. Obviously we still need a striker(s) and until that position is fulfilled I’m afraid no matter how good the players we’ve brought in this transfer window will be seen as another unsuccessful window.
I’m gonna try and be patient before I start abusing the likes of Pardew and Ashley and wait until the first of August. I just want Newcastle to be back where we belong and that’s finishing in the European places.

Anoyne seen good old Derek’s latest comments to the press. £5m is staying in tehe “club”, we have spent big fees, wages, etc, those players weren’t free.

The same quotes as AP, singing from Fat Ash hymn sheet.

The “free” transfers arent actually free and usually the fee that would have gone to the club goes to the player instead

Thats gonna take time, Ashley sounds like he has a good plan in order but we will have to wait if the team and board pull it off. I have a feeling we will be challenging for a cup next season as Pardew said he wants to give the ambitious players trophies

That isn’t right toonfan09, so you think that we gave BA 7m, or Marveux 6m i.e their valuation. Thats rubbish. they are free as in no transfer fee. The only fees involved are signing on fees, wages etc. The same as a standard transfer.

It is a general theme among the pessimists here that NUFC are being slow out of the blocks to make big signing(s). I’m not sure that there are many Torygraph readers on this blog but Mark Ogden has written a very good article suggesting why it might be better to wait until much later in the transfer window.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/premier-league/8611865/Fair-Play-rules-leave-clubs-with-unwanted-players-in-a-dormant-market.html

I suggest that the strategy being followed at NUFC is to pick up the free agents and players with release clauses quickly before they go elsewhere. At the same time the clubs with bottomless pockets are fighting over the big names. But there isn’t a lot of transfer activity involving the players that are surplus to requirements. Note how little success Spurs are having trying to unload the players that don’t feature in their future plans, even the good ones. On the other hand the closer we get to the transfer deadline the more desperate the clubs who are financially overcommitted will be to get their wage bills down. They have to do this to comply with the financial fair play rules. So the bargains will be in the last few days, not now.

Do you know what I want? I want Newcastle fans to stop whinging so much about this money.
We’ve signed some players. We’re bringing in more. We have 2 top class players coming back from injury. THIS IS FINE.
You’re forgetting we have quite a few youngsters hungry for first team spots, such as Vukic and Ferguson and I wouldn’t want any incoming buys to deprive them of playing time.

Also, why is there a need to see the 35 mil blown in one go? Save some for January just incase there is an injury and we need to replace someone, or incase a player we want becomes available. Pardew wants the club to look to the future. So lets do that.

    Ochytoon,

I’m totally on board with Ashleys plans. It’s a good layout, but until it comes to fruition I’m afraid he’ll have his doubters. And fair enough, he’s hardly done the right thing since taking over. But, since the relegation season I’m starting to see it come to life and slowly and surely he’s changing my mind towards him. But, all I want to see in this window is a great goalscorer. We defintiely will have a team that can challenge for a trophy or even in the European places. We do have a good squad, we just need that striker sorted out. That is the missing piece to this puzzle.

They do have 52,000 attendances + lots of shop sales & SKY money.

Im satisfied SO FAR. We’ve signed Cabaye,Marveaux and Ba.3 excellent players.
    Some times i think some of you would have been happier if we had done these deals like this;
    Cabaye – 10m
    Marveaux – 10m
    Ba – 15m

Notice how it totals to a certain multiple of 5 that is massively popular on this blog

Well, I would (And still am) expecting there to be a sale of deadwood, ala Smith, Routledge etc. To bring in a revenue of about 6-10 mil. Add to that attendance income etc, but take away club costs I would estimate about 15 Mil. Which, if you include Erdinc is about what we’re going to spend. I do want the club to spend more, but I also don’t want us to throw money around like its 5 years ago.

    3rd time lucky maybe?

    What do use think?

All that matters is the final outcome of the transfer window and the final standings in the league isnt it? Apologist or negger as you guys all say what is the thing we ALL want, to do as well as reasonably possible were not talking 1st or 2nd and were not talking twelfth again. Lets not forget we could have been 9th couldnt we, regardless of how much MA has lied in The past we had a bloody good season with a fairly mediocre team! We have better players in the squad now so surely logic would say we will do better in the league now….. Sod being a negger or an apologist coz all of our opinions differ but we all SUPPORT NUFC so lets get to doing it instead of whinin coz its borin as sin!

Happy with what’s come through door just we could be jnthe same situation as last year with too manger injuries and not enough cover

    Cabaye was probably 6.5M … 4.5M + 2M agent/signing on.

    Marveaux 2M agent 2M wages/signing on

    Ba 2M agent 2M wages/signing on

    Abeid .? 1M + 1M

Tiote new contract … 3M this year?

    Training ground 500K

    6.5 + 4 + 4 +2 + 3 + 0.5 = 20M

Surely some of this would have been spent if we hadn’t sold Carroll?

I’d say 20M as they spent nothing in Jan 2011

NUFC does generate a lot of revenue.

    So 35M still to go?

At least we’ve done something in the market. The likes of Villa and QPR haven’t signed anybody yet.
