The Jose Enrique transfer saga has been going on for over six months now.
Jose Enrique – will turn up for pre-season
It seems that Newcastle selling Andy Carroll in January caused quite a few of our players to question the ambitions of Newcastle, and in particular that of the owner, Mike Ashley.
Jose is ambitious, and for whatever reason he doesn’t now think he can achieve those ambitions on Tyneside, and would therefore like to move to a club that is playing in the Champions League.
If the rumors are to be believed, then Arsenal may be interested in him, and he could have Champions League football with that famous London club.
Pre-season training resumed yesterday, but it’s apparently a staggered return and neither Barton nor Enríque were expected yesterday.
But Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has made a rather startling statement today about Enrique – this is what the manager said:
“There was a big part of me thinking Enríque might not return for the first day of training but he looks like he is and that’s good news,”
Things must be a little serious if Pardew didn’t even expect Jose to turn up, but hey, the Spaniard is contracted to Newcastle for one more year and it is his legal obligation to honor his contract, unless Newcastle decide to sell him of course.
So not turning up for pre-season training would have been bad – very bad in fact – and not a very good sign to the new players arriving at the club – that’s for sure.
That statement by Pardew may suggest things are worse than we had thought with Jose, and it’s an odd and rather worrying statement to us.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #1I don’t care… It’s obvious that he doesn’t wanna stay. Now he has the great ambition to play in CL… but where was this ambition where we relegated.

Comment #5Jose is still waiting for the club to show the right kind of ambition for him to stay, He wants to win things, we have to convince him that the club wants the same thing, if not then it’s bye bye Jose.

What? This mean that the player is bigger than the club… Stay or go – he decide, but can’t put some demands to the club!

Comment #14I can’t quite work this one out because he was “happy” enough to drop down to the Championship with us and try and work to get us back up then after one season in the top league he says indirectly (Never said anything in public) that he wants Champions League footy. Surely there’s something more deep-rooted with José in that he doesn’t like the hierachy or manager and therefore wants out.

Comment #17If Arsenal want the lad its a no brainer. Wenger will wait until the last hour of transfer day and get him for about two million. It would be totally amazing if Ashley decided to keep both Enrique and Barton and let them play their hearts out in their last year. Cannot see it myself. Ash wants the Cash.

Comment #18Spitfire where was his ambition when we relegated? Are you knocking the lad for staying with us and bringing us back up or for performances in the season we went down? Either way I think your argument sucks. If he is sitting it out for a while to see what the clubs plans are I don’t forking blame him. You only get about 15 years to acheive something at football and how likely is Jose to win a league or European cup with us under this regime? Serious question. I cannot see it happening anytime soon, carling cup or fa cup maybe but Jose is a player worthy of Europe. We’re a club worthy of Europe but at the minute we are a long way off. There are six/seven teams competing for the top four places and invest a lot more than we do.

Comment #25Yes Roy gotta keep the spin going 🙂
The door at Arsenal has just opened up for Jose with Clichy leaving. Champions League football beckons with Gooners rebuilding – just a question of whether Wenger will open his wallet wide enough ?
Ambition. Its a funny thing. When we as a club show a lack of it (by not spending on a replacement striker) people ignore it yet when Jose shows it everyone slags him off !!!
Good luck to the fella he’s too good for this club until we start showing some of Jose’s ambition we’ll always be a club for players to use on their way up !

Comment #31a lot of so called like any other business you invest when you have the money, football is our main activity, we are not a shop foe second hand footballers, yes Ashley has loaned the club money, mainly to cover the losses he has created. a large proportion of our fan base has been driven away by Ashley, corporate hospitality has fallen greatly, season ticket sales are down. season after season we loose more because of Ashley & Llambias. what happens to these great young players we were supposed to sign. all we get is spin with no substance, now our manager is claiming players returning from injury are new players, next we will be informed we have signed a couple of new player, Routlage & xsisco. we have got 3 new players great start we need 3 more then 10 18-20 year old’s to take the place of players that leave next season & the season after, then Ashley can start to take his loans back, when this will not impact on our
league status. Ashley’s not a fan he’s just as happy to skirt with relegation, it just like putting £20m on the roulette table, like i often post we are a football club, our business is entertainment. not a player shop.

Comment #37Arsenal are selling Fabregas, Nasri and Clichy – we have sold Carroll for £35M (Tevez is valued at £40M – shows what a brilliant piece of business selling Carroll was), Nolan and possibly Enrique.
Does this mean Arsenal are owned by a fat greedy unambitious ba$tard who only wants money, money, money whilst screwing the fans?
No – its the way of the football world. Players move on, sometimes for a better chance of trophies, sometimes for more money and sometimes because the club no longer wants them.
Toon fans like dave 1961 who say MA is deliberately screwing the club and only wants to ‘skirt with relegation’ because we sold Carroll and Nolan and won’t give Barton the contract he wants are talking b%ll%x. He is doing what he thinks is right for his business, what he thinks will tale it forwards not backwards. Where is the sense in deliberately taking a business backwards? Only an idiot would believe MA is doing that.
You might disagree with MA’s decisions – and you may be right. But don’t say he is a FGB intent on destroying our club – that is pure drivel and shows an airhead IQ.

Comment #40The 35million was always said to include signing on fee’s, agent costs and wages. This was always said to be the case, just because alot of you didn’t want to believe it, doesn’t mean it wasnt true. If some of you honestly think we have spent nothing on gettin any of summer signing to the club, i fear for your safety in every day life and if it was anything to do with me i would keep you away from all sharp or pointy objects for life. As the article say’s 22mill alone on wages at least. Now im not saying we don’t need any more signings or anything daft like that, but the way some of you doom n gloomers go on, over the past 3 years its becomming a chore to read your posts. If we sign ten players u whinge, if we sign none u whinge blah blah blah blah. Get behind the team this season as that is what real fan’s do, if you cannot get behind the team then in my eyes your not a true fan. If you only support the toon if we get huge marque signings i hope u accidently fall off the tyne bridge 😉 The squad has improved and despite how much you cry, fat ash has spent money this summer, get over it!!
