Some disappointing news is being reported in the Newcastle Journal this morning, that indeed it looks like Mevlut Erdinc wants to stay at PSG and fight for his place in the first team.
Erdinc – wants to stay at PSG
Apparently new PSG Director of Football Leonardo, who started his job yesterday in Paris, wants Erdinç to stay with PSG and fight for his place.
And quite honestly, if it’s true Erdinc wants to stay, then Newcastle shouldn’t push this deal too much.
The one thing we want is for players to come to Newcastle who want to play on Tyneside, and if they don’t then that’s fine, but we should not then try to persuade them to change their minds too much.
Apparently Newcastle would still like to have Mevlut come to Newcastle for talks on personal terms, but it’s saying something that he wants to stay at PSG, when he could get a bigger wage deal on Tyneside.
If Mevlut remains uninterested then the Magpies will have to move for another striker, and news today they had lodged a bid for Shane Long of Reading.
Newcastle number one striker target, Kevin Gameiro, also turned Newcastle down to move to PSG (are they both crazy?), and it was thought that Erdinc would be hard pressed to get a first team place in Paris next season.
That’s only one reason Newcastle moved for Erdinc, but of course he’s also a very skillful player.
The Journal is reporting that Newcastle are not interested in Shane Long, while there is news in The Sun that the Magpies have launched a bid for the Irish International, so it’s one of those days when you really don’t know what to believe.
