The Daily Mirror is reporting that Newcastle have made a £1.5M bid for Nottingham Forest 22 year-old midfielder Lewis McGugan.
Lewis McGugan – top young Championship central midfielder
Last season, McGugan appeared 45 times with 13 goals and 16 assists for Forest, and came through big time, and is now one of the most highly-rated youngsters in the Championship.
McGugan was also Forest’s top scorer in the Championship last season.
Lewis plays as a central midfielder, and he has represented England at both U17 and U19 level, and is known for his ability to score goals from long-range and from free kicks.
The Nottingham-born player joined his home town way club back in 2004 as a 15 year-old, and came through the Forest Academy, and has now played 157 times for Nottingham Forest with 31 goals and 26 assists.
Alan Pardew said he was going to being in some top young players from the lower leagues, so this is not all that surprising.
On the other hand, it’s hard to know whether these youngsters will be able to make the step up to the huge demands of the Premier League – something that James Perch was not able to do last season.
But from what we can tell, this could even be a decent signing by Newcastle, and Lewis probably fits in with the prosed Neil Taylor transfer from Swansea- young players who are expected to come through in the next year or so on Tyneside.
