We’d love for Charles N’Zogbia to return to Newcastle.
Charles N’Zogbia – £9M fee is the problem for Newcastle
Since Charles left, under difficult circumstances two years last January, he has not only appeared to mature as a person, but he also seems to have added more goals to his game.
In 90 appearances for Wigan he has scored 18 goals, and looked Wigan’s best player last seaosn, as he was a major player that had Wigan end up avoiding relegation on the final day of last season.
Newcastle got £6M plus Ryan Taylor for Charles – so that is around £7M, so we are a bit surprised to hear that Newcastle are balking at the £9M being asked by Wigan owner Dave Whelan.
It seems it’s the fee Wigan want, and not the wages Charles is asking for – that is holding up the deal, as that source who is close to Charles N’Zogbia (Charles himself?) told the local Newcastle press the following today:
“He is keen to come back to Newcastle.” “The issue is very much that Wigan will not back down on the £9M asking price, and no club so far have been prepared to match that.”
N’Zogbia’s contract runs out at the end of next season, and Newcastle may feel that £9M is just too much to pay for a player that can leave for nothing next summer.
Presumably if Charles doesn’t move , and sees out his contract at Wigan, then Newcastle could still sign him next summer, and we think they will.
But Wigan must also know if they are too greedy this summer, they could lose the twice capped French International for nothing next summer, so perhaps Newcastle feel waiting some weeks this summer for Charles – to let Wigan come to their senses – is a good enough strategy.
Of course that risks Charles being sold to some other club this summer, if they are willing to pay the asking price of £9M, but no club has come in for him yet.
As we said, we’d love for Charles to return to Newcastle, because with the skilled players we now have, he would fit in very well indeed, both on and off the pitch.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1I reckon we shud chuck a 18 million bid in for MARIO GOMEZ…. He isn’t happy at his club and wants out… Twice the player of Erding and Sturridge….
SELL:
Barton: 4 mill – 50 k week
routledge – 1.5 mill – 20k week
smith – Free – 60k week
Jonas – 6 mill – 45k week
enrique – 9 mill 40k week
= 20.5 Mill – 215k week
IN:
GOMEZ – 18mill – 60k week
N’ZOGBIA – 7mill – 55k week
MENEZ – 6.5 mill – 50k week
CANALES – Loan/opt buy – 35k week
TAYLOR- 1m – 20k week
-32.5mill – 220k week
32.5 – 20.5 = 12 …
Which leaves us around 15 mill for the January window!

Comment #3Ok wait till tomorrow then we can sign him! I hate the waiting game. He isn’t essential in pre-season though as he doesn’t really need any bedding in time like the other new lads might – he should be able to hit the ground running

Comment #11£9 mill is a steal for CN.If Villa are wanting £18mill+ for Downing then surely Nzogbia is worth £9mill.If we are quoting £15 mill for Enrique then surely we should be buying CN.The man is quick, skillful and scores goals, something we will need for next season.CN could be the difference from us struggling or challenging.Get this deal done and stop pi**ing about.

Comment #14ToonAndy – when was the last successful team with 3 at the back? Not happening. Gomez is too expensive, and unproven in this league. Menez won’t be coming here, he’ll be wanting to play in Europe. We need to target potential quality, who can get us Europe soon, but not immediately.

Comment #16It’s funny how Ashley was willing to pay 12 million back in January knowing fine well they wouldn’t agree but when they throw an actual price in front of him where he knows he will need to pay the money he backs down.

Where is the Merchandising Money gone?

Comment #20Does anyone think that the longer this goes on the more screwed Wigan will be. If they leave it too late to sell they’ll have some money but a severely depleted squad and no time to find a replacement.

Comment #21He is worth it but Ashley is a haggler. I’m sure if whelan said to him after months of haggling he would agree to a price of £8,999,999.99 then Ashley would take it just because he knows he has got it for less than it’s value

Comment #31we will be waiting until Wigan are willing to accept a lower offer. I don’t expect this to be sorted out until the end of the transfer window, when Wigan realise that they either have to lower there valuation, or risk losing him for nothing, and then I expect a few clubs to be in the mix for him

Comment #38Angryman… Ashley is a majority share holder, he dosent have to ask to make decisions.
Last season we made a loss of 17 mil, that means all money from tv, sponsorship, player sales was spent and then ashley had to put in another 17 mil. This season we were due to break even, that means all money was accounted for from tv, sponsorship etc so if we want to buy more players on higher wages that would mean we would not be breaking even anymore and would be back into making a loss unless we invest some of the carroll money into player saleries and player transfer fees.

Im baffled by it too mate. Cant understand whats going on. Theyre obviously trying to get the deal done as cheaply as possible. To be fair we should just go and secure him. He’s an important player to sign up. 9mil seems fine to me, he’s worth it. We should still be able to afford a centre forward too.
I think we’re just willing to pay 14million on charlie and a centre forward, and obviously 9mil and 7mil for Erding would be more than that.
Playing the waiting game to get anyone for as cheap as chips.
