Joey Barton Backs Colo – 93% Think Argentine Is Good Choice

Joey Barton has given his backing to Fabricio Coloccini, as the new Newcastle captain.

Joey Barton – backs Coloccini as captain

The 29-year-old Argentinian defender was told by Newcastle manager Alan Pardew he would be the new captain after training on Thursday afternoon, and Fabricio has said today it will be an honor to be Newcatsle captain – he’s right there.

Barton himself had been a possible replacement, and in our poll a week or so back Steven Taylor was top at 36% and Fab was second with 31% and Joey got 20% of the vote.

The 28-year-old used his Twitter account (again) to express his support for Coloccini:

“I’m happy for Colo and it’s probably the correct decision given my precarious contract situation, gives stability.

“I’ll be a leader without an armband and I’ll be there for Colo as well as all the lads regardless.

“Selfishly, it lets me concentrate on playing well every week.”

Those are good words from Joey, but we still have our doubts that he will be a Newcastle player come September 1st – but we hope he will.

Coloccini’s appointment has been very well received by Newcastle fans, and in our poll today, 93% of over 1330 voters think Colo will be a good choice as Newcastle captain.

The news has been the highlight of the day for the Geordie fans, and of course Coloccini is a very popular player on Tyneside, and he’s an excellent choice by manager Alan Pardew.

Jesus. Do you need to tweet about everything Joey? It’s getting to the stage where he’ll be tweeting the half-time team talk.

Joey Barton is one of the worst set piece takers I have ever known. It will be Cabaye or Marveaux next season unless we bring in an even better FK specialist.

To be fair to Barton, Hainsey, the effectiveness of his free kicks diminished considerably when AC left….Perhaps with a new Target Man his FK’s will be more lethal again!

yes i do, Tonytoon.. but i think it would make sence to have a local lad as vice captain, and he could learn loads from colo and be our next captain in a few years time.

Where are the mike Ashley supportesrs tonight. I have an issue with them I’d like clarified? Especially the ones who say ‘ mike hasn’t taken a bean from the club’ nope, he’s taken 12.5m so far!! Which will rise to 16m beginning of season! And then continue to rise throughout the season, yet the clubs debts are ever increasing? Internal and external debt ? Astonishing! Not as vocal tonight boys?

I thought tiote rly shud of got i coz he def plays by example and the responsibility might hav reigned in his silly challenges and hes bang in the middle of the team but i’m still happy collo’s got it he’s a true professional who’ll do us proud and it means he’s not gonna be sold. Has anyone else noticed the so called top teams are starting to get extremly over the top sponsorship deals funnily enough just before these new money rules come in man u hav just agreed a 400 mil deal and man city a 100 mil one its funny that lyk lol i’m waitin 4 the chelsea one now prob closer to the billion mark lol!!!???

I was wondering when people would remember Ashley’s loan to the club, which probably saved us from doing a Leeds.
If I recall its about 100 million (the debt fat freddy left us with) and he will want it back.
So in 6 or 7 years our club will be totally clear of debt. I also remember Asley or Llambias saying they will pump 20 million a year into the club but expect us to be self sufficient in 5-6 years.
The positives are we will eventually be free from debt and could then use the money owed to Ashley to the Coach/Manager/Ashley to plough into player/wages/agents fees.
I only hope once Ashley, if his plan works, and it is looking good to me so far, doesn’t sell to another group just when we could really take off as a club and begin challenging the top clubs and being in profit.
I also think he is learning how to run a club with his very astute buy’s and Bosman’s , Tiote, Hatam Ben Afra, Cabaye, Marveaux, Gosling and Ba.
I only wish he had the balls to be honest and up front about his plans, but then again I haven’t ploughed 250 million of my own money into it.
We can also watch our team continue to improve (if the plan works) in the knowledge we will be paying the same in 10 years for our season tickets, you never know we might even win something.
Its been that long since we did 1969, I was there against Ujpest Doza and if we win anything I will probably have a heart attack in the excitement.

Yea, JB was rubbish at freekicks, like the game winner at arsenal and liverpool. Rubbish freekicks.

Come to think of it those penalty kicks against arsenal were also terrible, especially the second one he put straight down the middle.

You really tink MA is putting club money into his own account, I’m pretty sure that is a big no no.

Look the future of football is changing. MA has decided NUFC will no longer continue to run in debt and wants it self sustaining. Not sure what all the fuss is about. If you really can’t live without the days of big money transfers and free-spending there is always those clubs in Manchester to support. Read it: Support.

Dazza, in a nut thingy, my post was not a personal attack on MA it was aimed at the guys on here who pontificate that MA is great because he puts his hand in his pocket and takes nothing back!

Also, he is a liar of course! That is a proven fact I’m afraid

Read the bit about us oweing the banks 74 mil under shepherd and having to pay 5.5 mil a year in interest before we payed off any of the debt(external debt). The 17mil was the cost of relegation.

Itunder… He has said he dosent want the loans back until the club is sold.

Dazza… Joeys direct freekicks(shots) were bad, his passing from freekicks were mostly good.

Nevermind… I have tried to post a response but its not appearing for some reason? Because it has a link in i think?
It basically explains that the club has cost ashley 280 mil so far(price of club and debt) and under shepher we owed the bank 74 mil and were paying 5.5mil interest a year before we payed off any of the actual (external)debt. The 17mil was the cost of relegation, keeping nolan, barton, coloccini, enrique all on high wages.

Itunder… He dosent want the money back until we are sold.

Dazza… Joeys direct(shots) freekicks were bad, his passing from freekicks were mostly good.
