Newcastle right-back Danny Simpson is closer to signing a new five year contract at Newcastle.
Danny Simpson – close to signing 5 year deal
There was news a month or two ago that Newcastle were offering the right back a new long term deal, and there have been some good talks that have taken place this week, and Danny is expected to sign the deal soon.
Alan Pardew has been urging the Newcastle board to give Danny a good deal, and it appears today that an agreement is getting close.
There has been news that Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is a long-term admirer of the right-back, and that Villa may even be thinking of lodging a bid for the former Manchester United player.
Simpson’s agent Will Salthouse had this to say today:
“We had a successful meeting this week and we’re just waiting to hear back now,”
“The deal is with the club now and we’re waiting to hear from them.”
Danny had a good season last seaosn when he started late because of an ankle operation in the summer, but we still think Danny has room for improvement, and it would be good to see that improvement next season.
Simpson signed his initial deal 18 months ago, when he was transferred from the Red Devils for around £500K, when Newcastle were still in the Championship, and it was less wages than Danny had bee looking for, but he still signed on for the club.
This deal will give the 24 year-old more equality with what the other first teamers are getting at the club, although we have no idea what his new wage will be.
For the record Danny has 72 appearances for Newcastle with one goal.

Comment #5If Zog goes to the unwashed I will be even less convinced about Ashley & Llambias’ ambition for the club than I am now.
Get some money spent you cheapskates.

Comment #8Zog will not go to the unwashed as it would go against Bruce’s transfer policy of signing crap, over rated players

Comment #16There was a time that I wanted Bruce in charge of us, but after seeing what he’s bought this summer, thank god he didn’t come. out of all the players he’s signed there’s only Gardner who I rate. He’ll start every game next season for them, but would struggle to make our bench.
Well done Brucey, keep up the good work

Comment #17Also, what about Jonas playing on the right? He’s great at helping out defensively. Jose can more than hold his own, so Jonas can help out Simpson.

Comment #18Well hopefully we’ll be able to get one of current squad to sign up to the club for a while- shame Jose doesn’t seem to keen to follow suit.
I like to think that all this business about the AC transfer fund being spent is a bit of brinkmanship by the club in an effort to keep the fees for players lower[?]
There seems little point in shouting about having loads of cash as clubs will invariably request more.
Maybe we will all be surprised with a significant bid for A.N.Other [add appropriate linked player here] as a proper replacement for our former no.9.
And maybe I’ll drop the EuroMillions, or get signed up myself, or pull a supermodel……..

Comment #255under1and are already up to their eyeballs in debt and they’re making the same mistakes we did not so long along- funny that, from a club that’s lightyears ahead of us.
O’Shea is probably the best of the bunch, but I reckon we’ll see that he looks better when playing in a good side.
funny that, from a club that’s lightyears ahead of us.

Jul 8, 2011 at 11:24 AM
Comment #27Is simmo really worth a 5 year contract? I know Barton leaves him exposed time and again, but this standing off business is ridiculous. The best game I saw Simpson have was at Arsenal where he almost played as a sweeper and was excellent.
Any news on Babacar rumours?

Comment #29JackButler….I hate to say this but ‘they’ have brought in some good players.
But, his style has been route 1 over the top football, so I am happy he never joined us.

Average pace, not exactly fast so i cant class that as bringing pace to the team.
He stands off for ages letting players get closer and closer towards goal so i cant say he is good at tackling. A good tackler would get there early and stop the playing from running at them which he doesnt so we disagree there.
