News today that West Brom have put in a bid of £2.5M for West Ham midfielder Jack Collison, and Newcastle are reported to be interested in the player.
Jack Collison – Newcastle linked with 22 year-old
The 22 year-old can play in the center of midfield or out wide, and new contract talks seem to have stalled with the Hammers.
The 6′ tall midfielder is yet to sign a new deal, and that’s after a full two weeks of negotiations, and WBA manager Roy Hodgson was first in with a bid, with Newcastle, Stoke and Everton also said to be clubs interested in the talented youngster.
The Welsh International (8 caps) had this to say yesterday:
“It’s flattering but I’m in negotiations over a contract at the moment. Let’s see how that goes.”
Collison is on around £4K a week but still has two years left on his current deal, and the news is that Roy Hodgson is willing to treble Collison’s wages.
The product of the famous West Ham Youth Academy returned from a serious knee injury at the end of last season, but new manager Sam Allardyce is said to want to keep Jack at West Ham, as a partner to former Newcatsle United captain Kevin Nolan in central midfield.
Collison was born in Watford and joined West Ham as a 16 year-old back in 2005, following stints with Peterborough United and Cambridge United.
He currently has 52 appearances for the Hammers with a couple of goals.
We do expect Newcastle to bring is some youngsters this summer, who can then fight for their first team places, but it’s difficult to know if Newcastle are really interested in this 22 year-old.
What do you think?

We could field 11 midfielders and we could have a bench full too. Looks like this is what we want to do if we sign all the midfielders we are linked with lol

Comment #12Can’t be true – nobody told Lee Ryder:
But he certainly believes his stories about N’Zogbia
“Fact: They are tracking Mevlut Erding, Charles N’Zogbia and Neil Taylor to bolster their current squad.”
Is Lee he on the board now?

Comment #15We do have loads of midfielders but I would still get N’zogbia and use him on the right wing, Reckon we must be planning to sell 1 or 2 of those MF’s, Routy and Smith. Get rid of those two and we at least would free up the wages for N’zog. The main thing is we need another striker! Still think Sturridge could be the future of our strikeforce and Englands.

AP is pioneering the 3:6:1 formation!
It’s the new ‘wall of Frenchman’ theory of football, not tried since Waterloo.

Comment #18GK Raylor (utility player – not great)
LB Vukic (youngster yet to make his mark)
CB Tiote (World Class IMHO)
CB Smith (finished)
RB Routledge (not Prem class but nice chap)
LM Ben arfa (world class)
CDM Barton (good player)
RM Jonas (good player)
CAM Marvaux (yet to see him play apart from a youtube vid but based on stats for 2009/10 he could be very very good, overall 1 in 5 goals but did far better than that during that season.)
ST Cabaye (class)
ST Abeid (youngster for the future not now)
So effectively 6 midfielders worth talking about. We need cover for Tiote as a priority and I would love to see N’Zogbia join us as I think Alain Pardieu intends to play 433 next season.

Comment #19I wouldnt mind Bendtner like aslong as he’s under £10m.
I reckon if he got a good run in the first team, something he hasnt had at arsenal, at least not in his natural position, he could become a big goal threat.
Also, all the best strikers have a massive ego. Goes with the territory as far as I’m concerned like.

Comment #23Agree with Stuart about strikers having big Ego’s but it is to do with the character of the man that makes him a great player. Shearer had a huge Ego but he was also a pretty grounded person. From what I have heard about Bentner he doesn’t have a very good character and over-rates himself massively.

Comment #26As pointed out above, we could field a team of mid-fielders ffs.
It could be I’m just not seeing Pardwho’s vision, but I think we have enough strength in mid-field. However we are very weak up front.
We have some great creative talent now in the squad, who should create chances galore – my only concern is who the hell is going to bang them in?? Where’s our out and out Number NINE? I don’t think its Ba although he will hit a few; Likewise the mid-field should comfortably replace Nolan’s tally.
We need a Striker.

Comment #28Lets not confuse Ego with big headedness, Shearer had a big Ego because he was confident in his own abilities, even when he had some serious injuries and wasn’t having a good scoring run, he stil always knew that he would score again. Bentner on the other hand thinks he is the greatest player to ever kick a ball and doesn’t understand why he doesn’t play all the time. That’s being big headed.

Comment #35Haha toonfan76, thats why we’ve only got one silly rumour so far today. There’d usually be around 40 by now on a Sunday morning lol.
Still think though, if Bendtner got a long run in the first team, which he would with us, and not pushed out to the right or left like he usually is with Arsenal he’d get a fair amount of goals. I’d say he’s better than our current strikers, maybe except Ba just going on his goals to games ratio from last season.

Comment #38Old floppy chops would ask at least £10m for Defoe and he’s not worth that anymore, barely scored/played last season.
He’s too old as far as im concerned like. His game really relys on his pace and unfortunately his legs are starting to go. Berba on the other hand is around the same age but because he never really runs anyway we’d probably get 3 years out of him at least.
I wouldnt want him either though haha.

Comment #39Why does Sturridge have to cost too much, Ashley’s whole strategy is to by promising, young talents to make a profit on in a few years time, Sturridge may be a bit pricey but as soon as he gets his first full England call up his price will go through the roof. I believe with enough first team games, he will definitely push for a place in the England squad. Better than A Carrol in my opinion. (By a long way)
