Blackpool After Newcastle Under-19 Striker

Any chance of keeping 20 year-old Nile Ranger on Tyneside seem to have disappeared today, with Blackpool about to announce the signing of the Newcastle United youngster.

Nile Ranger – off to Blackpool?

Ever since manager Ian Holloway saw the youngster plat at Bloomfield Road almost two years ago, he liked what he saw.

Nile was signed by Newcastle back in the summer of 2008, and the lad has made 58 appearances for the Magpies with 3 goals, and earlier this summer he was surprisingly put up for offer.

He was brought to Newcastle by then Director of Football Dennis Wise in July of 2008, after Southampton released him, and even last season he looked to have a future on Tyneside, as he signed a five year deal last Ocotber.

Nile has played for the England U19 and U20 sides, but it seems his almost three years on Tyneside is about to come to an end.

Alan Pardew had criticized the youngsters time-keeping and the efforts he put in during training,  and it would appear Pardew didn’t think he had the drive and professionalism to make it in the football world – at least not at Newcastle.

We will see how he does at Blackpool, because the lad certainly has the skills to succeed, and we would have preferred that he be sent out on loan for a year to see how he did.

But a permanent deal seems to be in the offing.

Comments welcome.

Would prefer to give Airey more of a shoit next season.

Lol at ur second post pi!

I genuinely think its a shame coz when the kid plays hes actually not that bad at all obviously (got brilliant hold up play) just a tool off the pitch! I think he will do very well with constant game time just a shame it wont be for us!

It seems like he’s one of those players who needs to feel extra special & wanted.

However he’s not anywhere near the standard of half our team, so it’s hard to reason giving him special treatment.

We can’t be too bothered about someone who – although has never started – hasn’t scored a premier league goal in about 1000000 appearances.

I think toon could regret this move. Why not send him out on a season long loan, make sure he gets lots of playing time and I think he would make a huge step forward.

He gets so little time on the pitch its not doing his development any good at all. If, at the end of the loan he’s no better, THEN sell him.

I have to say like for a player who lives in the clubs of newcastle and is constantly out partying, I cant see a move to blackpool being the wisest move ever made! Bring on the slot machines!

I must point out that the source for this is some unheard of southern local paper.

We’ve heard plenty of interesting “facts” already this window…

I’ll repost this incase any of you missed it .

Interesting press conference in Malaysia today. Wenger replied when asked about his left back options that he would use Kieran Gibbs, Armand Traore, and Thomas Vermaelen. Could be great news for us if they don’t want Enrique. That would mean no current CL team is in need of a LB.

I think he has a great future. He will mature, wait for it.

As of today, according to wikipedia Moussa Sow is a Newcastle player who will wear the number 9 shirt. LOL

    @9

He has been out on loan before, also claimed he would focus on football before too.

Neither of which have done him any good.

I think that there are only so many chances you can give a player, otherwise we will end up with another Strolla on our hands.

I think Phil Airey is showing much more potenitial, cannot beat the NUFC acadamy players!

In reality he probably is worth about the £9M Wigan want for him due to him entering the last year of his contract.

Similar situation to where we are with Enrique.

i think its a mistake to not test this lad with the new flowing style being talked about because although hes a big lad hes more of a fast forward than an number 9 hoonestly if this happens befor the darlo game i feel itll be a bit premature + i do agree Airey and Vuckic seem to show equal ability + a bit more determination p.s. if Airey fulfils his potential then he will be a ledgend at Nufc i dont believe hell do a Judas Nufc Tattoos proper geordie 🙂 the futures bright lads the futures orange..away kit lol

    ————–
Exactly. I can only find one ‘source’ for this story:
    http://www.clicklancashire.com/sport/blackpool-fc/129920-blackpool-fc-set-to-unveil-signing-of-newcastle-united-starlet.html
and they just refer to the signing of “an as-of-yet unknown agreement, according to sources.”
So not only do they not know what sort of agreement it is (ie. loan or permanent transfer) but they don’t tell us who their ‘sources’ were. And, of course, as per usual, Ed didn’t quote his source when he wrote this article.

Ho hum. Plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose!

Okay, so if Newcastle lose Ranger and Best, would Newcastle fans be comfortable with Ameobi (aging, injury risk) and Lovenkrands (mediocre) as co-forwards alongside Demba Ba? I see neither quality nor depth at that position past Ba.

Guys, not sure the Ranger rumour is true at all – just stood behind him in the queue in Sainsbury’s in Forest Hall (right next to the training ground) around 5pm – looked knackered. Maybe the rumours of him knuckling down are true – staying back after practice?

I hate to post something along these lines as I know I will not be able to prove to you all the credibility of this info but ….
Ranger has been shipped out because of his attitude in training, in particular a fall out he had with Carver and Pardew whilst practicing his finishing from crosses with Shefki Kuqi and the youth team keeper at the end of last season.
I for one will be pleased to see the back of the lad. In my work I’ve had personal dealings with him & frankly found him to have no redeemable features as a human being, he will only ever bring disgrace to our club. We’ve had enough of his sort on Tyneside.
