Which Striker(s) Are Newcastle Now Pursuing?

Alan Pardew has reiterated that he is still after at least one new striker for Newcastle this summer.

Alan Pardew – who’s he after now?

Newcastle have already signed free agent Demba Ba, who looked a good striker when he played at West Ham earlier this year, and scored an impressive 7 goals in 13 appearances for the Hammers.

But Newcastle want to add to their fire-power, and this is what Alan told the local Newcastle press corps:

“We are still looking hard for a striker, and we have got our eyes on every striker who is available at the moment.”

“But they have to be the right fit for this club.”  “There is a certain genre they have to fit into.”

“And we will be striving for them to fit into that category.”

Well it’s hard to read much into that statement, other than Pardew will be bringing in at least one additional striker this summer.

Newcastle have lost their two top goal-scorers from last season, in Andy Caroll (11 goals) and top scorer Kevin Nolan (12 goals).

But they have already brought in Demba Ba, who could be a big hit on Tyneside, if he can remain fit,  and play like he did at West Ham earlier this year.

And Leon Best scored 6 times in 12 appearances earlier this year, and if he is kept on Tyenside, we think he could score quite a few goals for Newcastle next season, although Leon is surprisingly up for sale for around  £4M.

At that price he will probably be snapped up by a top Championship side,  but in our poll we put up earlier today,  75% believe Best deserves at least one more season at Newcastle to prove himself, and there are already over 1800 readers who have cast their vote.

Newcastle will also have the great Ben Arfa available, and he can score  goals too, and Pardew has said he will use him as the second striker, behind Demba Ba.

Yohan Cabaye could become an important player for Newcastle next season, and while at Lille he scored 39 goals in 253 appearances for the French Champions, and also had 35 assists.

The 25 year-old French International could also get some goals next season for the side, hopefully, and he is excellent on free kicks.

Sylvain Marveaux has also been acquired and he scored 20 goals in 118 appearances for Rennes, and will be looking to take the left wing starting position from Argentine International Jonas Gutierrez.

Newcastle have probably missed out on 24 year-old Mevlut Erdinc of PSG, and we assume he will not now be arriving on Tyneside.

And the striker we would like to come to Newcastle is 21 year-old Daniel Sturridge, but it doesn’t seem that Newcastle are keen on him.

Or maybe the Magpies are not too keen on how much he would cost – that may be a more accurate way of putting it.

But to be honest, we have no idea who Newcastle may now be looking at in terms of strikers, but we understand their top target is again from the continent.

Any ideas who he (they) might be?

It’s difficult to think who the club may target. We didn’t know anything about Gameiro or Erding until news came out we were interested. Sturridge would be lovely, but at the price Chelsea are asking, we’ll have to look elsewhere.

I still believe we are going to get our main target right now, and thats Mevlut Erdinc. We’ll get him in just before the window closes. PSG are playing hard ball with Ashley and I reckon they’ve sorted it out with the player himself, but the trouble lies with PSG and the price they are after. Ashley will be patient until he get’s what he wants at the price he wants once the window is about to close. During that time we’ll be looking at other options that become available once the CL teams start with big money players. This usually don’t happen till the season starts. Be patient and for the moment we’ve got a solid team that is stronger than last years. We’ll kick off with Ba upfront for now.

Most likely Pardew at the end of August will end up saying ”We scoured around Europe for the best striking talent available for us, but it has failed to bear fruit. We are not going to be held ransom for ridiculous prices and will ensure we get the best deal possible. We are pushing our efforts in securing our striker in January.”

No, there’s nothing wrong with Sturridge. I think WWJBD and I are just sick of the rumors flowing around. Using Gervinho as example, we have seen too much terrible rumors linking us to him and we were so sure to sign him blah blah blah, and now he’s in Arsenal’s shirt.

Guys… I like surprises, not speculations.

    Exactly WWJBD!
If anything we should NOT be expecting Sturridge as either Pardew or Carver came out and said he wasn’t a target about 3weeks ago. Unless anything changes I expect it to stay that way.

Ahhh i see where ur coming from …… But

If u think about it we still have til sep 1st by then villas boas COULD have brought in another striker or simply decide that he is surplus to requirements! I think ashley would see spendin say 10-15m as a soun investment as the kid is very good and i believe will only get better. Thats me with me positivity hat on and i would LovE is ash did it jut this one time, go on……

With Essien now confirmed out for 6 months after his knee surgery.. I think Chelsea might come in for Tiote. If Chelsea bid around 25million for Tiote, we should sell Tiote and replace him with 15million Matuidi. Profit of 10million for transfer funds and wages.

Youth is a great thing, but it takes time to make them the finished article, and time is not on our side or anybody else’s when we need to finish in the top ten of the premier league. The Toon needs at least one striker who can get us at least 15 to 20 goals, and age and experience is what is needed alongside youth, so maybe players like Anelka, Drogba, and Berbatov are what we need for a year or two until our younger players improve. Like it or lump it, Toon will have to pay for these older players if we are going to finish higher in the league. Some how I don’t see MA shelling out, but we need just one even though it might cost £80/90 k per week.

GONZ your remark about having a stronger team than last season.

ive heard alot of geordies say that yet ive heard alot of geordies say they miss nolan.I DONT he was a pocher for goal (sometimes good) but looked lazy.glad we sold him.now hes gone i think clear a few more out and bring couple more in we’d in a sense have a team to challenge for CL or UEFA .

Might i add that those ppl who critisize ameobi.hes the only player besides alan shearer who can hold the ball up and pull of a few good tricks to pass the ball around.untill we see the players we have who can do that i say we hold onto ameobi(just for now).

    Nile Ranger(DUCK EGG).

Oh I entirely believe Villas Boas will get in another striker and I believe Sturridge will be away on loan from Chelsea again next season. Am just tired of seeing his name knocking about on here.

Its all just speculation and he is english which I highly doubt we are in the market for I think everyone now knows that if you buy english you get ripped off.

Can’t believe we might be selling Nile Ranger and Routeledge. i really hope not. our squad size is pathetic. our bench and backup players are simply too young or not good enough. most of this youngsters have barely played in the premier league like tavernier, airey and so forth. why oh why are we continuing to sell when its obvious ashley won’t fork out money. *angry*

Which Striker(s) Are Newcastle Now Pursuing?

    1. Any striker that costs less than £1m
    2. Any striker who thinks Pardwho is Sir Alf Ramsey
3 Any striker who hasnt got the ability to talk to his agent, his peers or his friends !

FFS unless the Fatman spends some money (not £35m before all the tossers jump out of their prams) we’ll get no strikers to improve the squad.

25million for Tiote isn’t that bad. 25million for Tiote and replace him with just as capable Matuidi for 15million. That’s brilliant business. 10million profit to invest into our club again, like upgrading the toilets or so forth.
