The Daily Mirror is reporting that Newcastle are interested in Crystal Palace right-back Nathan Clyne.
Nathan Clyne – England U19 International
The Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is said to be interested in the 20 year-old England U19 International, who joined Crystal Palace from Tottenham back in 2008, and he has played 106 times for the London club with one goal.
The news is that Newcastle have opened talks with Crystal Palace for the youngster, and the Tyneside club have offered £2M for the 9 times capped England U19 International.
Chris Hughton’s Birmingham City are also said to be interested in the youngster, but the Midlands club are also struggling to come up with the money.
Clyne will be brought in to challenge Danny Simpson for the right back position on Tyneside, and 24 year-old Simpson is said to be close to signing a long-term five year deal at the Newcastle club.
Newcastle are expected to try to force a deal through this week, and Clyne seems to fit perfectly with the profile of players Newcastle are looking for these days – young players who can improve big time at Newcastle, and increase in value.
Clyne made his Palace debut in October 2008, when just 17 years old, and last season he became the youngest player in the football league to play every single game of the season, with 49 games.
And with his mature performances at right-back last season, Clyne became Crystal Palace’s Player of the Year.
We have no idea if this news story is true, but we do expect some young players to arrive on Tyneside this summer.
