Newcastle Interested In England U19 International Defender

The Daily Mirror is reporting that Newcastle are interested in Crystal Palace right-back Nathan Clyne.

Nathan Clyne – England U19 International

The Newcastle manager  Alan Pardew is said to be interested in the 20 year-old England U19 International,  who joined Crystal Palace from Tottenham back in 2008, and he has played 106 times for the London club with one goal.

The news is that Newcastle have opened talks with Crystal Palace for the youngster, and the Tyneside club  have offered £2M for the 9 times capped England U19 International.

Chris Hughton’s Birmingham City are also said to be interested in the youngster, but the Midlands club are also struggling to come up with the money.

Clyne will be brought in to challenge Danny Simpson for the right back position on Tyneside, and 24 year-old Simpson is said to be close to signing a long-term five year deal at the Newcastle club.

Newcastle are expected to try to force a deal through this week, and Clyne seems to fit perfectly with the profile of players Newcastle are looking for these days – young players who can improve big time at Newcastle, and increase in value.

Clyne made his Palace debut in October 2008, when just 17 years old, and last season he became the youngest player in the football league to play every single game of the season, with 49 games.

And with his mature performances at right-back last season, Clyne became Crystal Palace’s Player of the Year.

We have no idea if this news story is true, but we do expect some young players to arrive on Tyneside this summer.

Oooh, exciting. Then again, a certain James Perch was meant to come and challenge Simpson for right bacl. Can’t help but be skeptical.

Clyne is not a U19 International anymore, he is too old. He will be contesting for a U21 spot next season though.

Clyne is bar none the best right back in the Championship and last season decided against moving to Wolves.

whilst not doubting that he fits the ticket (young , cheap, hi resale etc etc) we need a firking striker – dont care if we play 4-5-1 we ne a STRIKER cos we havnt had one since Avatar left and as for 4-4-2 Ba and …….. (and of course Ba plays with a glass knee)

This move would stunt his growth as a player and also our very own Taverniers. Simpson is first choice and I’m happy having Tavernier as his back up. Clyne is already a youngster that has held a first team position for several years and to suddenly be asked to sit on the bench could ruin his progress. I’d rather we were looking for other positions to be filled (striker, LB, CB)

One of my friends is a huge palace fan and he says this guy is the real deal. He told me first when we were chasing moses and he said that we should be getting clyne aswell because he has so much talent

Could a deal be put in place so we could get him next year or should we get him in and keep him as back up? Or loan him to a lower prem club. Or a higher than palace NPC club?

We all seem to be looking at this deal as what is best for the team long term – however Fatash is merely looking at resale value – once a barrow boy always a barow boy.

The FACT (STu) that this payer has a real value attached to his resale must give Fatash a boner

What does this say about our plans for Tavernier? Not sure about this unless he can play across the back and take the place of Perch. Focus on the striker needs first Pardew. No excuses accepted at the end of the window.

If Barton is not going it sounds like a deal is in the works. Earlier on this site it was claimed he was looking forward to the American tour unless he has picked up a knock?

Yes yes yes! This guy is class and was recently interesting Ajax who will all know have a brilliant eye for technically gifted young players. Edgar Davids recommended him.

I like Simpson I really do I’m just not sold on him yet at all.

A genuinely good free agent and the kind of quick striker we’re lacking.

JB sold or not being taken incase he rocks the boat? Who’s next?

TomToon he had 19 goals in 93 appearances so a 1 in 5 striker for Stuttgard I think. Not that great, Ba was a 1 in 3 striker. Andy and archaeomag are you saying Barton can’t go to the States because of his criminal record? That is probably correct, they would need special permission for him I think. Too bad. Barton should have thought about the consequences a few years back.

This whole thing about looking for cheap players is getting a bit much. It seems clear Pardew has little or no real budget. He will have to sell to buy anyone above about 6 or 7 M pounds. Our wage policy is also probably too strict or we would have had Erding already. They couldn’t come to personal terms with him after the bid was accepted. I wonder what wage they offered him. Maybe 35 or 40 K a week max? It just won’t work with any striker in demand (ie. any striker worth buying).

I dont put much emphasis on goal records as we often see players with awful goal records go on to score tremendous amounts in a different league/team. I just know that he is a quick, hardworking and fairly versatile striker being able to play on the wing a bit too and from performances I’ve seen hes definitely worth a shot as a free agent.

Ok TomToon that sounds pretty reasonable to me. We might even be able to afford his wage demands if they are low enough. See above comments. I understand what Ashley is trying to do but the risk is to bring in too many players who all have to bed in at the same time. If we start badly and sink down the table Ashley may panic and then we would have to find a new flunky manager, always difficult as most managers worth their salt like to think for themselves.

  • gorskino, wasn’t there rumblings that Simpson was getting a new contact so Tavanier is possibly going on loan or sold or Clyne might get loaned back for a season…..

More interesting about this USA trip though, Barton is going to be a big miss imo.

Clyne is better than Simmo IMO but it would be harsh to replace him now as he seems to be improving with every game, however I’m still not 100% sold on him. If we could definitely get Clyne and Villa were still interested in Simpson then that could be ideal with Tavernier providing back-up, that is if he is as good as reports from the reserves suggest.

Could be but we have Perch too so 4 RBS also Gosling can play RB and doesnt Ryan Taylor played RB as well if needed.

TBH if he is highly tipped to be a future star we have Tav who i feel can be better than Simpson so pointless having 2 tipped youngsters.

    0
  • Seems that RB is pretty well covered when you think about it lol bit like our midfield aswell!

This week I think will be busy with some outgoings aswell as maybe 1 or 2 before the trip is my opinion, atleast imo that’s what should happen but this is NUFC, never straight forward.
