It seems the Mevlut Erdinc deal is not dead in the water yet, but Newcastle will definitely bring in another striker this summer.
Alan Pardew – plenty of time left in transfer window
But Alan Pardew has also appealed for some calm from the Newcastle supporters, and there are still exactly seven full weeks left in the transfer window, from today.
Of course it’s highly unlikely any new players will come in before Newcastle leave for their American tour next Sunday, but there’s still plenty of time left in the transfer window, and newcastle could still get some good deals done.
This is Pardew said today regarding a new striker:
“We’re still confident on bringing a striker in,” “It makes me laugh when people say time is running out – the deadline isn’t until the end of August.”
“It’s obvious we’re looking to get a striker in, we’re not just paying lip service to it. We have made bids, that is in the public domain.”
“But we have to make sure it’s the right player, that is the most important thing.”
The Journal is reporting today that Newcastle do have other striker targets lined up, and they are three strikers who play in the European leagues on the continent, and all are under 28 years old.
If that’s true it means that neither Daniel Sturridge or Shane Long are Newcastle targets.
Negotiations for the three strikers with their clubs, will be dependent on how the Erdinc deal goes, since Mevlut is still Newcastle’s first choice, and it seems his agent may be the problem.
It would be great if Newcastle can still get Erdinc on Tyneside.
