Metro is reporting today that Newcastle are interested in Arsenal striker, Nicklas Bendtner
Nicklas Bendtner – are Newcastle interested?
Nicklas had a hard job getting games for Arsenal last season, and it seems best for his career that he move away from The Emirates.
Bendtner joined Arsenal when he was 17 years old back in 2005, from Kjøbenhavns Boldklub in Copenhagen, his home town club.
He has played for all the Danish Youth sides and 38 times with 12 goals for the senior Denmark side, and he has made 153 appearances for Arsenal with 45 goals.
And from what we can tell, from his comments, he is his own greatest fan.
It was thought that Bundesliga club Hamburg were interested in the player, but their new Sporting Director Frank Arnesen, told reporters today:
“Nicklas Bendtner is a very interesting player. His signing would be a real dream,”
“But there are two clubs that have made offers for Nicklas, and unfortunately, we are not among them.”
Newcastle have been linked with Bendtner this summer, but there again we’ve been linked with many strikers this summer, so we don’t know if Newcastle have a real interest in this player – but we don’t think so.
And we don’t think he’s worth £12M either, which is the asking price apparently, although he’s worth more than that when you think we got a massive £35M for Andy Carroll.
Liverpool paid that amount of money for the Gateshead lad, based on his massive potential, so they will no doubt be hoping he comes through, otherwise they will have massively overpaid for the 22 year-old.
But there again it doesn’t look like Liverpool will change their style of play to play to Andy’s strengths – so we’ll see.
You would also think Newcastle can afford the £12M asking fee, if they are interested, but Ashley seems unwilling to pay out huge fees for players, and would prefer to get a good bargain.
Newcastle have been doing good deals over these last couple of years, and for under £10M, Newcastle have brought in Ben Arfa, Marveaux, Cabaye and Demba Ba this year, that’s just fantastic business for Newcastle.
The reports are that Newcastle may be waiting for the price to come down a little, before they move in, but if that’s the case, the club could always put in a first bid for the player. Maybe they already have?
We are not too sure about Bendtner, and think Newcastle could get a better deal elsewhere, and according to the Journal yesterday the club have three strikers lined up on the Continent, if Newcastle cannot get Mevlut Erdinc from PSG to Tyneside.
Sporting Lisbon are also said to be interested in the player.
We don’t think he would be a good buy, but let’s know what you think , do you think Newcastle should be going after this player – don’t worry about the fee – here’s the poll:
Comments very welcome.
