Joey Barton will be disappointed he is not on the plane to America this Sunday, but of course he will be in the Reserve squad that will tour Holland.
Joey Barton – will tour Holland with Newcastle youngsters
And Joey will be very good for the youngsters on that tour, because he has always been interested in the youngsters, ever since he arrived on Tyneside four years ago from Manchester City.
Joey told the local Newcastle press corps today:
“The young lads train with us quite a bit so we know them.” “Any squad competition is good, but the strength of your team is judged on the strength of your bench.”
“A lot of lads have a point to prove and they want to be playing for the first team.” “That can only be a good thing from Newcastle’s point of view.”
“Last season in some of the Carling Cup games they went about it the right way.” “That’s the way you do it. You give the manager a headache and they did that last season, so it bodes well for this year.”
“Look at the end of last season, we went to places like Chelsea with a lot of young lads in there.” “We had a lot of players out like Tiote, Steve Harper, Leon Best and Kevin Nolan and the list went on and on.”
“They will be better for that experience this season and can kick on.” “That has to be the attitude for the season ahead.” “We can’t rest on our laurels and we have to push on and give the fans the success they deserve.”
We have to hope that this will not be Joey’s last season on Tyneside, but it’s looking that way, with Newcastle now refusing to offer Joey a contract extension.
Great news this summer – which is not going to happen – would be if Jose Enrique signs his new deal to stay at Newcastle and Joey is offered a new deal that he signs, to keep him at Newcastle for the next three years.
It will not happen, but that would be uplifting for the Newcastle fan base.
