Newcastle have not been too lucky since June 18th in the transfer market, when they signed Frenchman Sylvain Marveaux, from under the noses of Liverpool.
Alan Pardew – bid put in for striker
That made four players Newcastle had signed by that time, and it was possibly the most players they had brought in so early in the transfer window, for quite a long time.
In addition to Marveaux the players brought in were Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye and 18 year-old Mehdi Abeid – all for just £4.5M which is what Cabaye cost from French Champions Lille – with the other three being free agents.
It was a great start by the Tyneside club, but since that time Newcastle have been unsuccessful in bringing Kevin Gameiro, Mevlut Erdinc and Neil Taylor to the club, and neither of those three will now be arriving on Tyneside.
Left-back Neil Taylor has reportedly just signed a new four year deal at Swansea.
But Alan Pardew has said Newcastle have just put in a bid for a top striker, so that sounds good.
This is what Alan Pardew said today:
“I don’t really want to mention names (that’s a pity!), but all strikers who are available, we are keeping a close eye on,”
“It’s important that we keep bolstering the team as best we can.” “We have obviously been looking for a striker – we are still bidding for a striker as we speak.”
“So we are doing all we can to get the right players for Newcastle.” “It’s not easy, it’s not an easy market – strikers are always the most difficult to get across the line.”
“But we are working hard on it.”
Pardew has said similar things before, and some of those words are to allay the fears of some Newcastle supporters, who would like to see more signings.
But the new news tonight is that Newcastle have just put in a bid for another striker, but who that is – we have no idea.
The local Newcastle press have said that Newcastle have identified three strikers on the Continent that they are now after, so we suppose Newcastle have bid for one of those players.
It appears that the players Newcastle will be after in the future will depend on the striker they get into the club, and we hope they are successful in their new most recent pursuit.
Alan was asked who else will be targets through the rest of the summer, and this is what he told Sky Sports:
“It depends, really, on the attacker that we hope to secure,” “There has been talk of the money we have got in and where has it been spent.”
“But you would be surprised with the deals we have done, it actually amounts to a fair bit.”
“We have got enough to bring a striker in of the right ilk for this football club, and that’s what we need to focus on.” ” When we secure that player, then we will look again.”
It seems that Alan is responding to some criticism that Newcastle have a net transfer outlay of zero so far this summer, with four players being brought in but Kevin Nolan also being sold to West Ham for £4.5M, to cancel out the fee paid for Cabaye.
Yes they have to pay the wages for the new players, and also some fees for the free agents, but at a gross level the transfer outlay is still around zero.
And Pardew has also said that Charles N’Zogbia will not be coming to Newcastle, as news earlier today was that Aston Villa were now expected to sign the former Newcastle winger as a replacement for Stewart Downing, the former Middlebrough player, whom Liverpool paid an amazing £20M for.
Stewart is certainly not worth that amount of money – but since he’s English he seems to be overpriced.
This is what Pardew said about Charles N’Zogbia:
“I am told that Charles has got an imminent move, so I don’t think that will be us,”
So it seems that Newcastle have unfortunately missed out on both Charles N’Zogbia and Neil Taylor today – two signings that we think for around £10M would have been good for the club.
Anyway, let’s hope Newcastle can have a little bit more luck with their new bid.
It’s upward and onward from now on, and we really hope the club can bring in more good players this summer, to add to the four we already have on board.
Any ideas who the new striker could be?

Comment #241What does everyone think about Dos Santos from Spur?, 4.5m sounds good for a striker for his quality. He played great in the Gold Cup and he didn’t do too bad in the Copa America. He’s got great speed and can put the ball in net. He was brought to the EPL by Ramos, which is why I think O’l Arry won’t play him.

Alan pardew has appointed Kevin Brock as his chief scout and is in line to axe Alan Carrs father as he can do 10 more keeps ups.

Newcastle team spirit is good, Cabaye has brought a deck of porn cards into the dressing room. And pardew has bought 25 yo-yos for every squad member.

Comment #250Whether you’re a “negger” or an “apologist”, what will you do if you’re not happy at the end of the transfer window?
Walk away?
Doubt it.
Doesn’t matter which side of the fence you sit, there isn’t a single person posting on here that I would trust with the running of the club. We’re stuck with Ashley, whether we like it or not. We can stand outside SJP(@whatever.com) with our shirts off shouting “ASHLEY OUT” and let the rest of the world laugh at what they’ve always percieved us to be, or, we could realise that all of the whinging and crying in the world won’t make the slightest difference and make the best of what we have.
Those are the choices.

Why do you do this Ed ? Surely you arent gullible enough to believe this tosh ?
Nice blog but as it’s always “Toeing the party line” it is of little significance nowadays 🙁
