Why Did Newcastle Miss Out On Charles N’Zogbia?

The Evening Chronicle  is reporting that Aston Villa have won the race to sign Wigan’s Charles N’Zogbia.

Charles N’Zogbia – Aston Villa have won the race to sign this Frenchman?

And we think it’s been excellent business by Aston Villa too – that they sold Stewart Downing for £20M to – who else – Liverpool, and then replaced him with what we consider to be a better player,  in Charles N’Zogbia, and for  just £9M and maybe even less.

So not only do we believe that Aston Villa have a better winger now, but they have also made a profit of £11M – thanks to Liverpool.

We’re really not sure why Liverpool are paying over the odds for players like Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll, other than they are maybe very keen to have a good English presence in their team.

We know that Charles’ contract runs out next summer, and therefore £9M may be a little high in terms of a transfer fee, but Newcastle got around £7M for N’Zogbia thirty months ago, and he’s now a better player.

And therefore, using that logic, we think it would have been a good deal for Newcastle to pay £9M for the French International, and tie him down to say a five year deal on Tyneside.

The fact that Charles also said he would be keen to return to Newcastle, makes it a little hard to take, but we do think it’s an opportunity that Newcastle have missed.

And again, it seems to be because of the club’s unwillingness to pay out a high transfer fee for a very good player.

That’s of course if the news is true that Charles will join Aston Villa.

We’re disappointed if indeed Newcastle have missed out on the French International.

What do you think about this?

Would have liked him backmhere, but not going to cry about missing out on him.

There are cheaper, and not necessarily poorer, alternatives. Menez and Barnetta spring to mind.

You cant ‘miss out’ on a player unless you submit a bid.

I’m confused… I cant find anything that says any club has bid for n’zogbia and read something this morning that Aston Villa were reluctant to meet Wigan’s asking price. Apart from the chronicle i cant find anything at all relating to n’zogbia… pardew said we’ve missed out on him because he seems to have chosen another club, has he or has his agent chosen another club for him? Anyways pardews statement basically says he was a target for us. N’zogbia may have a preference on clubs but they have got to bid for him first!

I’m sorry but where is the report saying we ever bid £4m on Charlie boy?

People are all getting aggrannoyed concerning us ‘Missing out’ on N’Zogbia but where, apart from numpties on Twitter, has it been categorically confirmed that we were ever ‘in for him’ this Summer?

I bitterly want us to do some dealing in the transfer window, but to get upset because the false rumours have all been found to be untrue is just a tad silly.

    Let us be serious guys.

Do the Chronicle actually print news? Or do they just make everything up, based on wild assumptions.

    I’m pretty sure it’s the latter…

We should be talking about missing out on The Zog when it is definately a done deal with AV. Anyway AV have sold two of their best players (Ashley Young to Man U) so they are going to be flush with cash, with a big quality gap to fill.

The Chron’ have just jumped on AP saying “I am told that Charles has got an imminent move, so I don’t think that will be us.”

So they have put 2 and 2 together and got Villa, no other source reporting it, plus Downing aint even completed his move to liverpoo yet!

We sold AC and KN neither of them played in a position which N’Zogbia could play in, so his arrival would not replace them.

you got to give cwarr credit for telling the truth atleast now. Puppet Pardew. 1 moment Pardew was telling our squad is small and need to be added to.

Now he’s telling our squad is too big and need to sell players to add. What is the truth? Why are we being lied to AGAIN AND AGAIN. no other clubs managers does this..

I’ve been saying for quite a few days now N’Zogbia will end up at Villa. Difference between their chairman and ours; they’ll spend the entire £36 m they received for Young and Downing on player transfer fees. We probably won’t spend more than £12m.

Simple fact is Ashley didn’t want to pay £9m and 60k a week for N’Zogbia.

Gues Toonruz is a championship manager style fan then!

We can try for all sorts of players, but we cant make them come, we have had the same problem for years, the North East does not have the appeal of the big cities down south.

Besides, if I was a player and I got wind of all this shite about fan protests, I wouldn’t wanna come here either.

No one should be surprised by this. Ashley doesn’t care about Newcastle, he just wants to make a profit out of the club. His plan is to survive in the premiership by spending as little money as possible and receiving the big Sky TV money.

Going back to the old standby of “I don’t believe it till I see them holding the shirt” policy on transfers.
Hopefully we’ll demolish Darlo tomorrow, least that’ll shut the negs up for a few hours. Saying that they’ll probably b*tch and start a rumour about HBA’s new hairdo. Here I’ll save you the effort, apparently HBA and Tiote have been hoodwinked by MA into getting Sports Direct tattooed on the sides and back of their heads, hence the mohawks.
