Game Delayed By Pitch Invasion After Newcastle Go 2-0 Up

Joey Barton put Newcastle 1-0 up after just three minutes tonight in the friendly game at Darlington.

But then in the second half, when Sammy Ameobi made it 2-0, a pitch invasion delayed the game in tonight’s “friendly” match between Darlington and Newcastle United.

The friendly attracted almost 10,000 fans, with 7000 of them making the trip down from Newcastle.

The visiting fans ran on to the pitch after Ameobi scored, and while the celebrations were initially without trouble, violence then broke out and the referee threatened to abandon the game.

The Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was forced to make an appeal to the Geordie fans to calm down, and the game was then restarted.

More later.

A bit of an over reaction from some members of the crowd. Mind you, they sang the song, I suppose one or two down to the touchline would have made the point

because you sang a song saying you’d go on the pitch isn’t legally binding in court as an excuse so it can’t really be an excuse. It’s funny on the one hand but if it damages the clubs rep it is a real shame

It seems that some of the Darlo fans also rushed the pitch as when they went back a load apparatly ended up in the toon stand and the fighting kicked off.

    Shame on them.

A small club who need the revenue which this type of game brings them. And I know that some NUFC supporters go to some of the games when Newcastle aren’t playing just to see a game and to give them an income.

its people like that that ruin the game, they just ruin it for the people who just love football and want to watch it. It sets a bad example, unnecessary.

andy to be fair mob mentality and such a brilliant goal… i kind a expected it lmfao… its only a field and 2,000 blokes wanting to hug 10 men whereing prison outfits… lol

i did hang my head like and turned to a guy getting up to run on that it will prolly cost the club. darlo will want reimburssing of the additional p[olicing required and the fa may have a say. he then sat back down… good lad

I wasn’t there tonight, but my son was. He said it was embarrassing. I don’t particularly like it when idiots make nufc look bad, glad were playing in America, shouldn’t have that problem there.

My son did say that abeid had a good game when he came on though, and apparently cabaye looked good too.

I think the players have been told not to comment on the invasion judging by both Barton and Simmo not mentioning it on twitter

I agree with ya. I think the players did us proud and certain fans let us down

Am glad the match was able to continue once Pardew and Carver got involved and tried to calm it all down though

Knowing Pardew and how well he treats the media he’ll say ” That’s what you can expect when it’s been over 50 days without football in Newcastle”.

That will put a positive on the pitch invasion.

Yeah thats what I thought WWJBD, however they both seem quite upbeat. Maybe its not all this big as all the melodramatic supporters are making it out to be; one mackem on twitter even stated thar nufc fans were beating up women and children aswell;. an example of a sick mackem.

hell, it was just impeccable timing really! the funny side is really funny but of course there’s the serious side… in all honesty though lets not make a mountain after a molehill, it was in good spirits initially, we’ll hear more reports and see where the chips land but lets take it for what it was, a silly act that was as likely to happen as HBA breaking his leg again.

with the shola goal rate, and then his little bro comes on, what were the odds eh!

couldnt make it up i say!

I was sitting in the stand opposite with my kids and friends Ameobi scored, cue pitch invasion. Everyone eventually returned to their seats, and the stewards started walking one idiot along the touchline to turf him out. Some of the Newcastle fans ran onto the track and started laying into the stewards who had hold of him. This was all, from where I was sitting, triggered by toon fans, and to suggest that it was justified because of a chant is just moronic. Never been so ashamed to be a Newcastle fan. No point trying to pin the blame on Darlo fans –

On a more positive note, Cabaye looked class, Abeid too. Ben Arfa got better as the game went on. Ferguson was playing left back and is obviously not one; looked promising when he got forward though.

FFS! Did the game actually finish 2-0 then? Not one person has even asked so far.

I know its just a friendly but if 500 idiots can run on the pitch then the least I can ask for is to know the effin’ score. I was unlucky enough to be workin and couldn’t get down.

Pathetic non coverage (at all) tonight as well. Cheers for that Radio Newcastle/Real Radio/anyone else who couldn’t be bothered. Not like any of us were interested was it? (7000 for a friendly ffs!)

    Howay man!
