Newcastle will play Darlingoton tonight, in their very first pre-season game, before heading off to Kansas City on Sunday for their American tour.
Darlington’s Northern Echo Arena
It’s now nearly two weeks since the lads reported back for training, and tonight will be the first time to see some of Newcastle’s new players, plus fit again Ben Arfa and Dan Gosling.
The lads will kick off at the Northern Echo Arena, against the Blue Square Premier club at 7:45 pm tonight.
Alan talked about the game today:
“It’s the next step for us. We’ve had a good week of preparing ourselves for the Darlington game,”
“We are tired and a little bit fatigued in terms of the work we’ve done, but you would expect that in pre-season – to go into some games with some fatigue.”
“But we are just very conscious of not picking up any injuries, so we will probably change the team at half-time or just after to make sure that we don’t get any problems.”
“”We look in good shape though, and there’s only one or two players we need to really get up to speed. Everyone else is nearly there.”
It’s a short four weeks tomorrow before Newcastle kick off their Premier League season with a plum home game against Arsenal, in front of probably a sell-out crowd at St. James’ Park.
The game will obviously get some good coverage, if only because of the amazing fixture in February, when eight goals were scored and Newcastle came back fighting, from 4-0 down after 26 minutes, to tie the game with just one minute to go in regulation time.
What a game that was.
