Joey Barton has had trouble in his career, we all know that.
Joey Barton – we hope this player stays with Newcastle for a few years yet
And he’s still paying for his past misdemeanors, with not being given a Visa so he can tour America with the rest of the lads, starting tomorrow, which was really an expected outcome.
The American government is fairly consistent on these things, and will not give any exceptions to sportsmen or anybody else for that matter.
The good news from the Newcastle Evening Chronicle today, is that there appears to be no animosity between Barton and the Newcastle hierarchy, and things are now much better between the two parties, and maybe Joey will even get an extension of his contract.
It’s hard to fault Joey’s complete commitment to Newcastle over the last couple of years, and while he had problems in the past, you get the feeling he is really trying to put his past firmly behind him, and become a better and more mature person.
It’s always great to see that, when a person can overcome his demons, because it’s never easy, for any of us, as most of us old-timers know only too well.
We like Joey a lot, but we’d love him to give up that Twitter account, because it could get him into trouble in the future, we’re very nervous about his tweets.
😀
Alan Pardew seems to get on great with Joey, and it could be if he had signed that contract in January he could have been the new Newcastle captain – who knows?
Pardew is resigned to losing Jose Enrique, and that’s simply because Jose wants to leave Tyneside, and that’s fine, he should do that.
We’ve had four good years from the Spaniard, but he now wants to move on and it would be better for the club if they sell him this summer – so Newcastle can get close to say £10M for him.
That would be great – but whether that money would be fully reinvested we don’t think so, but we do think the club would bring a in very good replacement for Jose at less than £10M.
This is what Alan Pardew said today, about a possible new deal for Joey at Newcastle:
“You never know – it can be resolved as we go along.”
“If we get a strong year from him on the playing side and his conduct stays the same, then he’s going to have not just us looking to do a contract with him but many others.”
“That’s the position we’re in.”
Joey Barton will head to Holland on the club’s Reserve tour, rather than traveling to America, and he has handled his disappointment with maturity, and has even come across positively, as he told people he was trying his best to improve himself.
With Kevin Nolan having left the club rather surprisingly this summer, Joey becomes even more important in terms of continuity for the side, with the new players that have come in this summer, so far.
Alan continued:
“I think Joey will be an important player for us this season.”
“With Kevin Nolan going, Joey is important to the group and has been terrific this season.
“I’m looking forward to seeing him play.”
We think there’s a chance, maybe even a good chance, that Joey can get an extension to his contract – to stay on Tyneside – and we’re really hoping that happens.
We think Joey deserves it.
Comments welcome.

Comment #83dont understand the lua lua situation. seen him play for the reserves a few times nd he was the stand out player 4 both me nd my dad. looked classy. hope we dont sell him, he looked a real prospect.
d guthrie is crap imo, nothing but a very average squad player, whose prone to injuries. would luv to swap him for some1 better, as i reckon he’s only worth a 1 mill. could be a deal breaker tho

Comment #8583 – 84 means what your 27 or 28 respectively…. Boy????? hmmmmmmm
On topic Joey Barton is one of my favourite players at this club he gives 100% and lives and breaths footy and you can see that on the pitch… If the owners weren’t such mugs he would live and breath NUFC….
Fair enough he has made mistakes but i look at my life and i have made plenty of mistakes, you don’t go through life on cruise control give the lad a contract and let him repay his doooo’s to the club… 😉

Comment #109CLOIN – how can shifting enrique mean geting £18million?
yes 8million for transfer but we cant save 10 million on a 5 year contract what he hasnt got :s? only thing we would actually get is 8million and then save on his LAST year which will maybe be say 2million so thts 10million total
Tonytoon73
Jul 16, 2011 at 5:40 PM
Comment #110Here lads if Enrique leaves he will not be the same player, cos he will not have jonas in front of him to back track and help him out when he has lost the ball and that is on quite a few occasion.
