Alan Pardew – Tough Games In America

The Newcastle squad will fly out on Sunday for their three game American tour.

Alan Pardew – we’ll break even on tour

Newcastle will play  MLS sides Sporting Kansas City and Columbus Crew and then third division side Orlando City, who are all in the middle of their season, and should give the lads three good games.

That will get the team ready for the Premier League start against Arsenal on August 13th.

As we all know one of Newcastle’s best players, Joey Barton, will not be on the trip unfortunately, because he was unable to get a Visa.

Alan talked about  the US tour:

“It is not a money-making exercise by any stretch of imagination,” said Pardew. “It is purely a break-even tour, which we feel is beneficial for the team.”

“We go there because the facilities will be first class. It is going to be hot, so it will test us.”  “My experience tells me that for the first game of the season it will be 90 degrees at St James’ Park, so experiencing similar conditions will be good.”

“The training ground and facilities are top drawer. The competition is mid-season and I think the games are going to be tough, and that is just what we need.”

“And when you say a lot of travelling, I think there are a couple of internal flights of about four hours but, you know, when you look at some of the trips of other Premier League teams, we are dwarfed by the distances they have gone.”

“You know, those Asia trips… God knows where else.”

And on missing Joey Barton on the trip, who seems to be a big favorite of Pardew’s, the manager had this to say:

“Ideally you want to take all your players, but I do not think it is going to be a major problem for Joey to go to Holland and then to integrate with us. No problems.”

Newcastle got off to a good start in pre-season last night, with a 2-0 win tonight,  and in the first half the side played extremely well, before Alan made 11 changes after Newcastle went 2-0 up after 55 minutes.

The game then lost momentum and died a bit of a death.

They will be tougher games as the US teams are up to speed and match fir as it’s still mid season for them.

Darlo was a stroll in the park and a riot on the pitch in comparison.

Unbelievable stuff. At least Llambias got a taste of how the fans feel about the disappearing loot now..

just want to say how gutted I am that we haven’t offered barton a new contract.. it is totally nuts when you think about it.

For the person who asked what Gosling was like…..

Gosling came on with about 25 mins to go and he really impressed me… you wouldn’t of thought hes been out for over a year! He looked sharp and had very good control of the ball…. Might be harsh to say but the only players I wasn’t massively impressed with was Vuckic and Simpson….

ToonAndy – i agree although dont judge vuckic on that as he was out for most of last season so like ben arfa is just getting back to match sharpness. However raylor looked very very uncomfortable at left back, hopefully he wont have to play there during the season otherwise that would be a serious problem, hope fergie is ok.

Andy – cabaye played well, quite deep infact, linking up midfield and with ben arfa well who more or less had a free role and picked up the ball often but was a bit rusty which is to be expected, joey played on the right and was just like he was last season looking sharp. Sammy Ameobi did very well and im not just saying that because he caused a pitch invasion, but looked a very direct winger with a tidy left foot. As for the pitch invasion, you can understand the drunk kids running on the pitch for a laugh even if it is over the top, but when the violence kicked off that was all because 1 guy was getting pulled away by the stewards and then some other fans ran on nd started on him… then it all kicked off, majority of the fans were furious when this happens, hope someone mentions that

I agree Kentonmags … I was embarrased by it all… Just hope the players took it ok..

Andy – Cabaye looked quality, I believe we have a real gem on our hands with him… His passing was top notch and all of his long balls were impressive… He also attempted a shot from around 45 yards which I found funny but only just went over the bar!..

we played a 4-2-3-1 and Joey played on the right of the 3… he looked in good shape and was really up for it as always… We we’re chanting for him a lot and he respected it.

HBA looked slightly rusty and lost the ball on quite a few occasions… However you could still tell there was magic in him and i believe he’ll improve a lot before the start of the season!

Just got back from the game long drive from Northumberland.
@ kentonmags thought Ben Arfa, Cabaye and Abeid were great spent ages signing and getting their photos taken. Joey Barton though was first class, he was great craic.

On the game thought we were really comfortable. Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Abeid, Sammy, Vuckic, Best and Barton looked good.
Smith still can’t tackle and why did Forster hesitate? Hope Fergie is ok and Guthrie too

Cheers lads hba always gonna be rusty today but glad we got 75 minutes out of him and cabaye sounds promising. Best lively? Heard he had a few decent chances. Add tiote and ba to the front 6 instead of smith and best and things are looking very good. Jonas and sm to fight out for lm and rm along with jb who will also challenge cm, quite a versatile midfield we have now

    As Tonytoon73 said earlier

“It is not a money-making exercise by any stretch of imagination,” said Pardew. “It is purely a break-even tour, which we feel is beneficial for the team”

Maybe we should rename the club to Breakeven (after expenses, wages, infrastructure and all equipment has been paid for) United ?

who, simo? fitness isnt an issue but he was a bit off. ben arfa tho i thought looked great with his vision but not quite as sharpe as id have hoped. darlo played really quite well though you could see the gulf in class ofc. with hatem though i think some players will have to improve their understanding of his ability and play and if they can then he will be bloody brilliant for us

  • I’d be sad to see JB go tbh, I think I understand him and where he’s coming from and happy he’s turned his life around. Just a shame he can’t get a contract because I’m sure he wants to play for NUFC just not for Ashley.
