Coloccini – I Love Playing For Newcastle United

When Coloccini was appointed Newcastle captain, one thing that did cross our minds was that  he will not be sold this summer.

Fab Coloccini – I love playing for this football club

There had been some news that Seville were after the Argentine International a few weeks ago, and there was some renewed speculation yesterday that indeed Seville are ready to bid for the £8M rated  Argentine defender.

And it’s not surprising that Coloccini has today rubbished talk of him leaving Newcastle, as he looks forward to his first season as Newcastle captain.

As we mentioned earlier this morning he is beginning his English lessons again, so he can be better prepared for all the interviews he will undertake as the Newcastle captain.

This is what the 29 year old said today:

“It was a big surprise to get the captaincy but it is also a big present,”  “The club has a lot of leaders and I am sure the manager could have chosen any of them to be captain.”

“That’s why it’s a surprise he picked me, but I’m really, really happy to have been chosen. I do not want to leave Newcastle after that. “

“My agent spoke to me earlier in the summer and told me that there were maybe some clubs that were interested in me,  but I am very happy here.”

“I love the Premier League and I love playing for this football club. I always wanted to stay because leaving this summer never entered my mind.”

The defender is very aware of the responsibilities that come with him being the Newcastle captain, and we expect the player to lead by example, as he has done over the last two seasons, without wearing the armband.

It’s clear Fabricio is taking the captain’s job seriously,  and it will be good to see his first interviews as Newcastle captain, which should be on the current tour of America.

Comments welcome.

One of my favourite current toon players, very glad he got the captaincy and even more glad that he seems overjoyed about it!

@Cheick and Bake – the sturridge rumour has peaked and troughed a million times so far this window like. Its got to the point where I’ll believe it when I see him in a toon shirt.

I just don’t see it happening though.

I’m glad he is happy here coz he is one of the best defenders we have had at the club for a while.

I’m glad we have players who want to be here and are happy here, rather than having player who are just here for a payday.

Yeah it does seem to be all over the last couple of days, and for a change, it does not seem to sound like a regurgitation of an old story/rumour.

If it is gonna happen, we are gonna have to get in there quick, coz I can imagine there are a lot of clubs watching the situation closely, including Liverpoo.

Basically, he did not want to leave anyway, but being handed the captaincy sealed it for him.

Think it just reassured him that he was wanted and would not be sold.

Think he is basically saying he wants to stay for good.

    Indian Mag:

What can read into the fact that it states that he,s going to English lessons. He happy that he got the captaincy, at least he tries to communicate with the fans.

He deserves the captains band on the strength of the last two seasons alone and i am pleased that he has finally got the recognition he deserves.

Don,t read too much into what players are reported to have said in the press.

we should sign him up to a 5 year deal, he’ll be good in 5 years and he’s never injured, that’s something we couldn’t say about nolan, and having collo here for 5 years would be showing a bit of ambision to.

@29 You are right there Colo is a class act and seems to be loyal to us meby Jose can take a leaf out of his book. Just hope we get a good striker. Someone who is guna get use 20+ goals. With our new Mid-field i cannot see that a problem.. hopefully a top 8 finish would be nice 🙂
