Peter Beardsley has always been supportive of the Mike Ashley regime.
Peter Beardsley – not many clubs would have Reserve team tour
And last night Peter praised the club’s hierarchy for arranging an eight-day tour of Holland for his Reserve team squad.
We must say we were a little surprised, but also impressed that the club has arranged the tour of Holland for the youngsters, as well as the 10 day tour of America for the senior squad, which started yesterday.
With Joey Barton and Nile Ranger both unable to get visas for the American trip, they have been included in the Reserve side tour, and Joey will have a big impact on the youngsters in Holland.
The Reserves beat Berwick Rangers 2-1 in their first pre-season game at Shielfield Park, and this is what Peter said after that game:
“There are not many clubs who would send a reserve side on a tour like this to a foreign country and it will be brilliant for the players.”
“From my point of view I will be able to see the players in action on the pitch and also how they handle themselves in the down time. It will be a test of character.”
“I knew this game against Berwick would be a reasonable workout for our opener and I was not disappointed.”
“I was pleased with the performance of the players. It was never about the result because at this stage it is all about getting the fitness levels up.”
“We do not play our first competitive match until the end of August and these games are important.”
It’s an excellent move by Ashley and Llambias to sponsor the tour for the youngsters, because it also sends a message to the youngsters that they are a very important part of the future of the Tyneside club, and that’s so true.
One youngster we will be keeping an eye on this coming season is top French teenager Yven Moyo, who scored after 40 minutes last night, after he beat two defenders before nicely slotting home.
This lad is a left sided midfielder, and was a top youngster when Newcastle acquired him from French club Souchaux only last September.
Newcastle substitute Brandon Miele scored Newcastle’s second goal on 71 minutes with a good effort, and McLaren scored the sole Berwick goal on 74 minutes, after he had been fouled in in the box.
