Surprise news this morning that new signing Yohan Cabaye is not on Newcastle’s trip to America.
Yohan Cabaye misses US trip with minor Visa problem
He will now play no part in the three game tour of America, and that’s because there was a minor technical problem with his visa application – whatever that was.
At least Alan Pardew seems okay with things, as the Londoner told the Newcastle press corps today:
“Yohan will add something to us, he’ll add a pass and an intelligence to our game, for sure.” “The players have already seen that all three are good players.”
“It’s no good doing it just on the training ground. Your top players like Fabricio Coloccini and Joey Barton know fine well it is about the Premier League.”
“You want to see these players performing in the Premier League at their very best, hopefully we see that from Yohan and the new boys this year.”
“You want to see what they’re going to do for us, and only time will tell.” “But at the moment they’re showing very well.”
News signings Sylvain Marveaux and Demba Ba are thankfully on the trip, so at least these two new signings will get some playing time for Newcastle in America.
And 18 year-old 6’3″ tall Slovenian U21 International, Haris Vuckic, will now get a chance to show whether he’s ready for the first team yet.
And Yohan’s absence will also give a chance to another new signing, the impressive 18 year-old French midfielder, Mehdi Abeid.
But unfortunately, Danny Guthrie has had another hamstring injury, which he picked up on Friday night at Darlington, after only 11 minutes of that game.
The very same thing happened last year at this time, and the injury will again interrupt his pre-season big time, which is a real pity for the 24 year-old.
And other players that Newcastle can draw on in central midfield, while they are stateside, include Dan Gosling, fit again after his serious ACL knee injury, Cheick Tiote, Alan Smith and Ryan Taylor.
It’s a pity about Yohan, but he can still get Newcastle games that are lined up when Newcastle return from America, and they include the plum home tie against Fiorentina on the Saturday before the Premier League season starts.
