When Haris Vuckic was signed by Newcastle back in January, 2009 from NK Domzale, he was a top young player that was sought after by some big clubs in Europe.
Haris Vuckic with Pardew after singing new contract in December
So it was a bit of a coup when Newcastle signed the then 16 year-old, and when he left his club, NK Domzale had a press conference to announce the lad was signing for Newcastle United.
And over the last 12 months or so, both Manchester United and Chelsea have been eying the youngster, but over the last couple of seasons, Haris has had quite a few injuries, and last season a knee injury kept him out of action for a long time.
That didn’t stop Newcastle from signing up Haris to a new five and a half year contract in January, to keep the 18 year-old on Tyneside.
Vuckic told the local Newcastle press from Kansas City today:
“This trip is going to be massive for me. It’s a chance to play in three very high-profile matches.”
“I want to push for the first team this year and this can help me to do that.”
Vuckic is an attacking midfielder and seems not swayed at all by some big clubs being interested in him, and he has said he wants to be successful at Newcastle United, and that was good to hear.
But before he played in the friendly on Friday night at Darlington the last competitive game he played for Newcastle was the 4-0 loss to Arsenal in last year’s Carling Cup, at St. James’ Park.
Haris has 7 first team appearances for Newcastle so far, and we would hope this lad can start showing through this coming season, and we have to hope his inury problems are behind him.
Vuckic talked about his injuries of last season:
“After the injuries last year that hit my season very hard, it was just a pleasure to be back playing again.”
“And with the first team too in the friendly at Darlington.”
Vuckic seems to have a knack for goal, although he is still to score for Newcastle, but he went close in the friendly last Friday evening at Darlington.
And at 6’3″ tall he seems to be still be growing, and he is an impressive figure in the middle of the park, and he had an outstanding game at Stamford Bridge last year, in the fantastic 4-3 Carling Cup win, when he caught the eye.
And he had a decent game on Friday night too, and Haris talked about that game:
“I thought I did OK, and playing with the likes of Hatem Ben Arfa and Joey Barton was great for me as they are such talented players.
“I thought I’d scored actually when midway through the first half I cut in from the left, but their defence did well to block my shot which I was sure was heading in, just inside the post.
“That’s disappointing but still, it was a good game for us and one that I was delighted to have taken part in.”
“This is now a chance in America to add to that.” “I am really looking forward to it.”
The poll we are going to run is a little bit specific , and it asks whether Haris make a first team breakthrough at Newcastle next season.

Comment #87Stuart are you another translator Pardew said that the injury’s sustained at Darlington were worrying as our squad was not too big, how can you get to the squad that’s in America, or is it your natural defence mechanism jumping into action.

Comment #88Cheers GT89 lol, if anything some reserves/youngsters are getting thrown into the mix too quickly because of the lack of depth in our squad but we do seem to have some bright prospects coming through.

Comment #93if I had my way this is the way to invest the £35m in the best kids from around the world get the 35 best young players, and do it to a time scale, then go for the big 4, I just think its the only way to break the strangle hold, get loads of kids who will break into the team over a couple of years.

Given great keeper but dodgy attitude towards Harper whom I think isnt too far off Givens standard imo

Andy, I agree about Given and if KK had him in the 90’s I think we’d have won the league.

Comment #116WWJBD your crazy! Given is one of the best shot stoppers in the world – or was when he was with us. He was the best shot stopper in the league until Hart became no 1. Reina best all round in the league. Harper is nowhere near given!
