It looks like Newcastle will be relying on Demba Ba to score the goals next season for Newcastle.
Demba Ba – let’s hope he can score the goals
But fans would like to see at least one more striker signed, and it looks like Newcastle have been stopped dead in their tracks as far as strikers Kevin Gameiro and Mevlut Erdinc are concerned, and both deals are dead in the water now.
Newcastle will not pay out £20M for Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea, although he would seem to be a perfect striker for Newcastle and only 21 years old, and we mentioned yesterday, a loan deal for the season is the best Newcastle can do.
There was news a day or two ago that Newcastle were in for 24 year-old Shane Long from Reading, but there’s been no real evidence that Newcastle are interested in this player.
And there are supposedly three strikers on the continent that Newcastle have identified an interest in, but since Marveaux was surprisingly signed on June 18th, no further transfer business has been carried out on Tyneside.
Pardew wants one more consistent goal-scorer at Newcastle, and that doesn’t look too good for the strikers already at Newcastle like Best, Ameobi and Lovenkrands.
Pardew says that Ben Arfa and Gosling will also have to score some goals next season too:
“They offer a goal threat. I think at times we missed that ‘je ne sais quoi’ at times last year.” “Hatem, in particular, offers that.
“We are a bit different to last year. We lost our captain and we have four or five new players who need to know exactly how we play and how we do the things we do.”
“This gives me the chances, being here, to do that.”
Newcastle must have known that in July in the mid-west of America, the weather is really hot and steaming all around America, for that matter.
Pardew said this today about the heat:
“The locals have been telling me it is about five degrees hotter than usual, but that won’t do us any harm.”
So rather than being 95 degrees F regularly, it is now 100 degrees F.
But it’s a lot cooler in Newcastle for sure, and I hear quite a bit of rain has been falling there recently.
My wife Madeline is over in Newcastle right now, and doesn’t return until early August – to get away from the heat for five weeks or so.
What’s that saying again about mad dogs and Englishmen?
Cabaye now has his US visa , and since he’s new to Newcastle it may have been worthwhile for him to have jetted out for the last couple of games on the American tour, so he could spend time with his new team mates. He could have had seven days with the squad.
Pardew talked about the hitch with Cabaye:
“It was a minor incident involving a bill. He claims he paid it, and they claim he didn’t.”
“It’s one of those situations, but for us, very frustrating. There was no talking them around, and unfortunately the process was too long for us to rectify it.”
That bill that was supposedly unpaid, was a Dentist’s bill.
But Cabaye is now with the Reserve team party who are touring Holland.

Comment #2Yaaay! First comment and first!….On the subject of strikers, i think we need another top class striker but can only see that happen if someone leaves. We have 5 with Ranger and cant see Pardew adding a 6th (even though it should be an issue of quality over quantity!) without shipping someone out.
Overall, the US trip seems to be going well and you never know, maybe the professional approach taken to pre-season will help Enrique to be convinced to stay…..Wishful thinking?

Comment #3I dont think its a case of quantity over quality upfront like toonrunner. Its just a case of getting some of their wages off the bill first. Even if we just shipped Xisco out theres £50k a week free’d up straight away.
Ideal world we’d ship out Xisco and Loven(love the lad but he hasnt got it anymore) that would free up around £70k a week i reckon which would pay a very good quality strikers wages.
Ba, Best, Shola and the new striker.
Send Ranger out on loan and make Airey the impact sub.

Would be very very surprised if NUFC pulled off Sturridge on loan.

I’ve heard quite a few people mention Airey on here but haven’t ever seen him play. Is he good enough for the first team yet? What kind of player is he?
I like Ba from what i saw last season, hope he carries that form into this season for us. Best is good backup, Shola is part of the furniture now so can’t really get rid of him.
Lovenkrands just isn’t up to it though and even though i like the lad, i think it’s time he moved on.
Ranger has good pace and great hold up play but no composure in front of goal and a piss poor attitude so a loan for the season to see if he can grow up would be good.
Xisco, hasn’t impressed any of our managers and even though i thought he did ok for us the few times i saw him, he obviously doesn’t want to be here so get rid.
That would leave us short so 1 more quality striker needed.

Comment #8@Irish – I’ve only seen airey play once or twice but he was knocking in goals for fun last season in the reserves. He’s probably not quite good enough for the first team yet but I’d like to see him fill Rangers role last season and get about 15mins a game.

I’m new on here but I read it daily so I thought I let you in to some info I have.
My friend works indirectly for the club & said that someone is having a medical at the club today but won’t find out till tomorrow who it is when they meet.
I tried pressing for names but he/she didn’t know.
Sorry that’s all I know but when I find out tomorrow I will let you know who it is but the news will probably leak tonight in any case.
Put this on the previous post but it is still in moderation.
That one Darlo? If he isnt bullsh1tting we’ll hopefully find out today.

hahahahaahaha im not sure, but i open to offers on how it could be Ashleys fault. I stubbed my toes yesterday, id just been thinking about how much i hate Ashley – so i blamed it on him. I reckon i could find some reasoning for why anything could be blamed on him. oh i hate him so much.

Comment #25DJ Campbell netted as many goals as Carroll last season, so its not such a daft shout in my opinion, also, why does the entire squad have to fall into the resalable category, surely if they come in cheap and do a decent job they have repaid us anyways.

I understand why people hate him, but the hatred is clouding peoples judgement on everything else that happens at the club. Every decision that gets made some fans immediately look for the negative aspect of it so they can have a go.
We sign Cabaye – yeah but only cos he had a release clause
We sign BA and Marv – yeah but only cos they were free etc etc

Comment #28Too hot, too many players key haven’t got visas organised, some up for sale, some refused contracts or refusing to sign them when offered, players back from injury we don’t know if they’re up to speed, others unknown and untried in the Premiership and finally, a number we know just aren’t good enough. It all adds up to bad management.
As Ed would say, if this were IBM, heads would roll..

Comment #30I wish it was the end of next season I am not looking forward to it at all. On another subject just read the Daily Wail & they have an article on Villas-Boas on how he is brining fresh ideas to their training ground and they have pictures of some of his training plays. I took my FA coaching badge 30 years ago and we were doing training plays exactly like the once he does. So much for new ideas, somethings never change
