Demba Ba played his first game last night for Newcastle, against Sporting Kansas, but he had a very quiet game.
Demba Ba - not fully fit yet
But the 26 year-old is still not fully fit physically, and certainly not match fit, and that’s the reason for the pre-season of course, to get sharpened up.
We’ve taken to Demba Ba quickly, because he seems such a a warm and down to earth guy, and we’re hoping we’ll take to him even more when he starts smashing in all those goals for Newcastle next season – hopefully.
The Senegal striker seemed a yard off the pace last night, and he needs to quickly get up to par as far as both his physical and match fitness are concerned.
But he’ll have a full three weeks come Saturday to do that, because that’s the first game of the season, when the lads take on Arsenal at St. James’ Park.
We have to hope that both Fabregas and Nasri are not Gunners by then, and both seem to want out at the London club.
Demba Ba talked to the Evening Chronicle today about his aims:
“For me personally, the main thing is to work as hard as I can as an individual for the team.”
“I have to contribute as much as I can.” “It’s not just being focused on scoring goals.”
“Everything else must be right as well, and you have to be part of the team.”
“If I’m getting into the positions and getting chances, I know I’m doing the right thing.” “I just want to do my job.”
“Things have been going very well out here in America, and we are all working hard.”
“These are good, competitive games for us to start off with – we aren’t here to have fun.”
“We need to train hard, and make sure we win the games as well, even though they’re friendlies.”
And the Newcastle fans seemed to have quickly taken to the big man, who they are looking to for many goals next season, and it seems like a mutual admiration society.
The 10 times capped Senegal International continued:
“Fans in Newcastle have given me a very warm welcome, and I hope that continues.”
“I look forward to seeing more of them and the city.” “We’re counting down to the start of the season.”
We are hoping that the news today that Newcastle have not given up on PSG striker Mevlut Erdinc is true, and that Newcastle can indeed sign this player some time in early August.
We need another striker to help Demba Ba get all those goals for the side next season.
