We are still hoping a miracle can still happen, and Joey Barton gets offered a new contract at Newcastle either this summer, in January, or even next summer, when he could become a free agent.
A pop star? – no it’s Joey Barton with his new haircut
But there’s no doubt about it, this could be 28 year-old Joey Barton’s fifth and final season on Tyneside.
Joey, quite rightly, has said he fully intends to see out his final year of his five year contract, and certainly that’s what manager Alan Pardew is banking on as well, as he still sees Joey as a big player for Newcastle next season. So do we.
Joey will try to get Newcastle as high up that Premier League table as possible, and it’s quite possible Newcastle could even make the top six next season – that would be fantastic.
And one reason we could finish that high in the league is that if the lads hadn’t conceded 3 goals in the last 30 minutes, and the third goal in the very last minute of the season, Newcastle would have finished in 9th place last season.
This is what Joey told The Sun today:
“Every season’s a big season and at a club like Newcastle there’s no time to rest on your laurels.”
“You’ve got to keep pushing on and we have invested in a few players who all look to be good additions to the squad.”
“It’s all about kicking on and building on what we did last season.”
At the minimum we’d love to see another stellar season from Joey next term, and who knows – if he does that then the Newcastle hierarchy may give him that contract extension.
That’s what we are hoping for.
Comments welcome.

We’re all trying here mate. All trying. We may be doom mongering on a blog as you call it, but in my opnion thats fine. Far rather do that here and then get behind the team 100% come the start of the season rather than say its all onwards and upwards and then start kicking off with protests at the board when we dont win the first match.
I cant see what harm a little venting and opinion giving is on the blog? Like i say i would far rather that then upsetting the players by booing after a dodgy result early in the season.

@P.I
Its mainly the player NOT the club, up North us and Sunderland got the most Injuries last year, so every season we will get injuries but the one you menthion became worse after leaving us, Dyer hardly featured in years then Owen has had quite a few injuries but harder to tell as sub, And Woodgate has hardly played in many season its bad when you sign a “Pay as You Play” contract.
Its not the Club, its the players, like Vuckic/Fergusson seem VERY injury prone already. With Ben Arfa he isnt Injury Prone and was just a bad Injury it may chance him but like Ramsey had same injury and hasnt been injured since.

I know what you are saying mate but by stating ourselves and Sunderland had the most injuries last season they you highlight my point which is a need for a larger squad to call upon due to our injury records.
And as for Dyer and Woodgate, they became injury prone while at Newcastle that was my point. I dont care what they do when they are at another club. Both Woodgate and Dyer were class, but we didnt get the best out of them because of their injuries. West Ham and Spurs also suffered due to their injuries but we were the first to suffer; and i dont give a sh1t about those other teams.

Comment #101@PI80: Because it creates a collective negative doom mongering spirit instead of a positive thinking optimistic one. Anyone in business will tell you that positive thinking is the way to success. Positive thinking off the pitch will lead to positive thinking on the pitch.
Out of our 30 or so players don’t you think that at least just one or two pass the boredom between training sessions reading up about the team that they play for. Given a simple search on google or newsnow sends you to this blog (congratulations Ed!) it wouldn’t be beyond imagination to think that one or two of them read what’s said on here. All they will see is so and so is crap, shola is a lazy &*^%$, Lover isn’t up to it, STaylor is crap at positioning, Simpson is so bad he should be replaced by a midfield player or a centre half, Jonas has no end product, Smith might as well shoot himself right now as he is a waste of humanity, Enrique is universally hated cause he wants to play at the highest level possible, Perch is…..

Comment #104Why didn’t Barton sign the really good contract he was offered and get to age 32 or whatever and see how he was playing then and then decide whether to give him a rolling one year extension.? I don’t get where people are saying he wasn’t offered a new deal.

Christ! Are you serious?
Dont talk negatively because it creates a negative vibe. And watch what you say on here because the players might read it?
In which case lads, lets all lie through our teeth about how beautiful everything is at the minute while developing brain tumours and stomach ulcers from all the built up bullsh1t, while at the same time never venturing onto the internet or speaking amongst ourselves in the boozer just incase it gets back to one of the blokes at the club and the get upset.
You’re deffo on Ashleys payroll as one of his propoganda employees.
Infiltrate the lads on the forums and brainwash them into believe everythings hunky dory. And if they dont buy that then tell them negativity creates a bad atmostphere (mention business acumen and studies) and if that fails then tell them the players read on here and dont want upsetting.

Comment #108@P.I., negativity will be washed away as the season starts.
I can’t believe there are people who want to see a world-champ performance during pre-season, which may well get them hurt as their bodies are not ready for the competitive situation.
Felipe, If you want everyone to be injured during the pre-season, ask for it again.

Comment #109^ haha yes he was. You a rugby man aswell? But HBA thinks it’ll be 3 weeks or so. A set back yes but not the end of the world and we are capable of dealing with it. May allow Barton to move inside and Cabaye to play a bit further up. Either or. Marveaux and jonas on wings it’s still a good side and midfield

Comment #110Pardew has been talking about implementing a new system. By this i assume he is implying a more attacking style of play given the fact that we have acquired some new midfield players with pace and skill. I haven’t seen or read much about the friendly match against Sporting KC, but can anyone elaborate on what they saw or heard about this new style? What formation, what was different? Probably too soon to tell if th new style will be effective, but I’m curious as to what we can expect for the coming season. Thx!

Comment #111HBA started behind the ba. Sounded creative and hit the post. So it will be 4-2-3-1 formation i think. Marveaux started on the left and also sounded lively but it’s v hard to tell from looking at text updates. There are highlights on the sporting kansas website

Comment #113Who says Barton was offered a really good contract Rotonda Heights? He was offered something in January but nobody knows what. He turned it down and the offer was removed by the team this summer. Nobody knows what the extension was. Barton said he would take a pay cut to get a long extension but how long? A 5 year extension would take him to 33. We know Ashley won’t pay players into their 30’s at high wages any more. I’m not sure in this case what the right move would have been by the club if he won’t take a contract in the 2-3 year range. We don’t want a Jimmy Bullard on our hands (or another Smith for that matter).

Comment #114Was a rugby fan. I don’t like the modern evolution of Rugby. For me the old glorious days have ended with the 99’s semi final between New Zealand and France. But it’s another subject
I have even attend a Newcastle’s game. It was in European cup against Stade Français in Paris.

Comment #115Dave Whelan has just said on skysportsnews live, that Aston Villa are not the sole bidder for Charles N’Zogbia, and that there are two other clubs who are trying desperately to get him.
Whelan also said he isn’t trying to start a bidding war and that he has always said a price of £10m will secure N’Zogbia’s signature.
Last but not least he also said that he would absolutely love to keep him, but that is extremely unlikely as he only has 12 months left on his contract.
Please Mike Ashley spend that £10m, please.
