We have to remember that Newcastle have three players coming back right now from long term and serious injuries.
Sylvain Marveaux – big player for Newcastle next season?
Those are Ben Arfa, Dan Gosling and new boy Sylvain Marveaux.
And as we are all too well aware, Ben Arfa has been injured again, and it’s that same left leg – this time the ankle – that’s been injured.
But some good news is that Sylvain Marveaux looked very good on Wednesday evening, and was a little unlucky not to score in that first half.
The French winger will be challenging Newcastle favorite Jonas Gutierrez for that left wing spot, and played 45 minutes there in the 0-0 draw against Sporting Kansas, and Jonas then played the second half out on the left, after filling in at left back in those first 45 minutes.
Jose Enrique has a hamstring injury and was not available for the game, and our other left back, Shane Ferguson, is out for several weeks after being injured in the first pre-season game a week ago at Darlington.
With Ben Arfa now back home in Newcastle, Sylvain Marveaux could be the player to provide that creativity in the Newcastle side in the next couple of games in America.
The player is nicknamed “Sly” and certainly his manager Alan Pardew was pleased with what he saw from Sylvain on Wednesday night.
This is what Pardew said today:
“That was a big plus for us. He is going to be a big player for us this season.”
“Marveaux hasn’t played for 10 months – but he still showed glimpses of what he is all about.”
“We are looking forward to seeing a lot more from him. He is a great worker.”
Indeed from what we’ve seen so far from two of the new players from the French Leagues in the side, Marveaux and Mehdi Abeid, both are very skilled and are just the type of exciting and creative players Newcastle fans love to have in their side.
Next up are Orlando City tomorrow night, where both French lads will again get a chance to impress.
