News late last night that new Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton wants 20 year-old Nile Ranger at the Birmingham club.
Nile Ranger – wanted by Birmingham City
Chris has a bit of a striker crisis at Birmingham right now, with three of their strikers, Cameron Jerome, Marlon King and Nikola Zigic all unavailable for the start of the season.
Jerome has an injured ankle, King has a knee injury and Zigic is to have surgery for a hip and groin problem, which has been persistent over the last several months.
Birmingham have just three strikers available at the moment, in new signing Adam Rooney and youngsters Akwasi Asante and Jake Jervis.
Blackpool had agreed terms for a permanent deal for the 20 year-old London striker recently, but Nile could not agree terms with Blackpool, and the deal fell through.
So we’re not sure whether Birmingham will now move for Ranger on a season-long loan deal, which were the reports of a few days ago, or whether Chris Hughton will try to take Nile Ranger to Birmingham on a permanent basis for around £1.5M.
Hughton knows all about Nile Ranger, and he brought the lad through the Tyneside club over the last two seasons, until Chris was surprisingly sacked by Newcastle owner Mike Ashley in early December.
