There was news today linking Joey Barton with Manchester United, and they don’t come much bigger than that.
Joey Barton – will see out his 5th year at Newcastle
But Joey has used that twitter account of his, to say that he will be staying at Newcastle until the end of his contract, which runs out at the end of next June.
It seems that Joey’s plan is to see out his contract and then next summer pick up some bumper contract with another club, and in addition get a decent signing-on fee.
The exact same thing could happen with Jose Enrique too, if Newcastle cannot sell him this summer or in January.
It could be that the Red Devils could still be interested in Joey next summer, and he certainly wouldn’t cost them much in transfer fees, like nothing.
Manchester United were linked with a move for him today in the Sunday Times, but Joey had this to say about that, via twitter:
“Nice to be linked with some big clubs but I honestly don’t want to leave Newcastle,” “Thanks but no thanks.”
“I will most likely leave Newcastle at the end of the season, when my contract expires and I am no longer employed. It’s out of my hands.”
It’s just a pity that Newcastle are still willing to let one of their best players leave, and Joey wants to stay at Newcastle too.
As Alan Pardew said in January – if you keep letting your best players leave you’ll never build a good team.
We could soon have lost Andy Carroll, Kevin Nolan, Jose Enrique and maybe even Joey Barton come September.
Comments welcome.

Comment #84Joey said the contract on offer was still being negotiated when Carrol left, both he, Nolan and Jose said they would not sign the contract until they were sure to be in Prem and to see if Fatty improved the squad with the judas money.
It was then that Fatty removed the contract offer, he has also said that he would have taken a pay cut to extend his contract.
I cant remember him ever mentioning wantin a pay rise as being the reason for not signing , it has always been the length of the contract that was holding things up (could be wrong thoug as I havent seen every interview/tweet he has done.

Comment #86MacToon – fair enough but why not call the game off if they believed it to be unplayable?
In any case, as an EPL team aiming for a European place (sorry top 10) we should be whooping the likes of these players on any type of surface – after all its thte same for both teams

Comment #88They agreed to play when there was meant to be a new surface put down which it was however it was worse so they reverted to the surface they played on
And it would of been out of order cancelling the match after selling tickets and advertising it the team did the right thing in playing the game and the right thing in holding back

Comment #94To get back to the point of this blogs topic. I can care less what Barton tweets, he has every right to express himself aslong as he doesn’t drag our team into it. And by that, I mean writing crap about players, staff or our very own fans. I believe he does his talking mostly on the pitch and for that I hope he gets an extension. If he continues proving himself on and off the pitch Ashley will give him that extension. The only problem I have is if he gets the starting role where does Cabaye fit in? Because I had Barton on the bench for this season, but he’s the only player at the moment that looks threatening towards the goal. Besides HBA!

Comment #96It is PRE-SEASON! We lost a game in pre-season big deal get over it. Main part of pre-season is getting fit not winning every single game. To call pardew clueless for decisions made in a friendly is crazy imo.

Comment #99I agree, I could care less about the preseason results. That’s not why it exists. Yes, it would be nice to win all the games to build that winning mentallity, but it’s more about fitness and strength. Unfortunately this preseason we haven’t had all of our First team there cos of visa issues and injuries, but let’s just get these lads fit and worry about results on the pitch when it matters. We’ll have Leeds and Fiorentina to prepare our First team (without HBA) and we’ll pretty much know by then the system we’ll be playing.

Comment #100Andy – at what point will you start?
We have two teams playing on different continents – hardly bonding sessions – this is after the great man stated that it is impportant to get signings in early so they can get used to their team mates etc. Whilst I cant blame pardew for the american entry requirements, or any injuries, I can point a finger at failing to beat a 3rd div team – pre season or not – only my opiniom mind you

Comment #108Reports say Raylor has a groin strain Ketsbaia. When you play in North America you have to realize many of the stadiums have artificial turf. It is of much higher quality now than it used to be. Why come here expecting the surface to be what Newcastle play on at home? The team did demand grass sod be laid but it didn’t work and Pardew agreed to reverting to artificial turf. It’s not ideal but I suspect it is being used now as an excuse by the team after they played so badly. These games are definitely not what we need to prepare for the coming season. Playing in very hot weather against teams in mid-season form who are used to their own playing surfaces. Now it sounds like I’m making excuses but I thought the tour was a bad idea from the start. It also exposes the fact we have 2 players who couldn’t go because of criminal records.

Comment #119Lets see, since HBA will most likely not be fit for the first game of the season and by that time I think we’ll have Erding. I have the team as follows against Arsenal.
Krul
Simpson, Taylor, Colo, Enrique
Barton, Cabaye, Tiote, Jonas
Marveuax
Erding
Subs (Ameobi, Ba, Gosling, Abeid, Willo, Lovenkrands, Harper)
