Newcastle Player Flies Home For Birth Of Baby Girl

10:22 am, Sunday, July 24th, 2011 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 61 Comments

News today that defender Danny Simpson has flown home to England.

Danny Simpson – flying home overnight

The right-back was given permission by Newcastle manager Alan Pardew at lunchtime yesterday, even though Newcastle are losing players on the tour with injuries, and also three players being turned down for US visas.

Ryan Taylor, another right back, was taken out of the Orlando City game last night, which Newcastle lost 1-0, after just 25 minutes, and we’re not sure what his status is.

The Sunday Sun is reporting Danny was allowed to leave for personal reasons, and it seems those personal reasons were that his baby girl is due.

Simpson wrote on his twitter account:

“Flying back to the UK today. Wanted to play the next two games, but I want to be home in time for the birth of my baby girl.”

Well there you have it, it is because of the imminent arrival of his baby girl.

We must say that Pardew seems to be the consummate man-manager, and of course he will be hoping the players will give him back their full commitment in return.

With the mounting injuries, we are hoping this will show the Newcastle hierarchy the squad is just not big enough for the Premier League.

Bu that’s a hope that will, in all likelihood, go unanswered.

Comments welcome.

@ mr. T – won’t suprise me if thai mag says so. That guy finds fault with everythin

  • 17 ilovetoon8788 // Jul 24, 2011 at 11:29 AM

10million for Nzogbia is a bargain. Considering that i highly doubt Ben Arfa will get more than 10 games for us next season and will be on the medical room more than on the field, Nzogbia will be a very good signing.
Even in Ashley’s business sense, 10million for Nzog now and he can sell him for about 25million next season if he does well. That’s about 15-20million possible profit.

  • 18 thai-mag // Jul 24, 2011 at 11:39 AM

indianmagpie- we have 5 players injured this pre-season already, all we get off club is they took them off as a precaution, then you hear nothing else how bad they are, in the case of ben arfa pardew says 3 weeks out, we will see soon who is speaking the truth, the two players that went off in the darlington game, has there been any updates on there injuries no, that was 2 weeks ago

  • 19 belfastmagpie87 // Jul 24, 2011 at 11:41 AM

well im glad i didn’t sit up & watch that shite last

  • 20 indianmagpie // Jul 24, 2011 at 11:45 AM

@ thai mag- pardew has not said 3 weeks. Those are the rumours we have heard from us fans been told by arfa. There has not been boy official statement from the club regarding arfa’s injury. Regarding guthrie and fergi, i remember pardew saying that he ‘s afraid that guthrie might be out for 6 and fergi 4 weeks. I am not sure on this though.

if we have a fully fit squad then we can compete against Arsenal but as things stand. they will be all over us like a rash

  • 22 AMEOBI // Jul 24, 2011 at 11:49 AM

Big congrats to Simmo! Thankfully club let him fly home

  • 23 Andy // Jul 24, 2011 at 11:49 AM

@Ilovetoon you say that about hba on every single thread. What reason do you have to say it or gave you got the dame info as the rest of us

i watched the first half of the arsenal match yesterday.

What’s the difference between Amy Winehouse and Sir Alex?

Sir Alex will be playing giggs in August

  • 28 boater // Jul 24, 2011 at 11:54 AM

Hope we don’t get erdinc – just have this feeling he’s not a toon player. We need a figure head player – not necessarily expensive just someone who can turn a game and someone who can get the fans back onside.

as it stands Ameobi remains the best striker at the club in my opinion.

  • 29 MacToon // Jul 24, 2011 at 11:55 AM

belfast, not looking forward to the Gooners game either, just hope this lot pull their fingers out and get the forwards and defensive cover needed before the window shuts.

  • 30 JackButler // Jul 24, 2011 at 11:56 AM

morning lads, everyone over that shocking performance last night?

Nice to see young Tavernier doing well though, Simpson’s got a real fight on his hands this season

  • 31 belfastmagpie87 // Jul 24, 2011 at 11:57 AM

    check out gervinho ffs?? lol

  • 32 MacToon // Jul 24, 2011 at 11:59 AM

belfast, I know m8, dreading seeing him play at SJP now.

  • 33 belfastmagpie87 // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:01 PM

that gervinho fella will be one off the top players next year.
    if he stays fit.

  • 34 boater // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:01 PM

The big problem going into this season may end up being psychological.

When we beat Liverpool 3-1 in december it felt like we were in the ascendancy, only a couple of months later they comfortably beat us – they had restored belief and were moving in the right direction, you could see how our heads had dropped – that needed massive surgery in the summer to fix, and I’m not sure we have done that… couple of defeats on the trot and I think this squad will crumble.,

also despite your Arfa or TOTAL football wahey fantasies – there is a distinct lack of goals in this side.

  • 35 MacToon // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:01 PM

Who played LB in the first half, tbh looked like Colo had to most of the time and he had a fine game imo.

  • 36 MacToon // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:03 PM

boater, we definately have a lack of goals atm, I think Erding will do ok though but he isn’t going to fill the number 9 shirt imho.

  • 37 indianmagpie // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:04 PM

with our kind of luck, gervinho wilm prob score a hattrick against us..:-(

  • 38 JackButler // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:05 PM

We are not going to fill the No9 shirt unless we see Ashley spend big money as no one at the club or any of the players we’re being linked with are good enough to wear it

  • 39 WWJBD // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:10 PM

The number 9 shirt should be locked up until Sammy or Airey earn it. We won’t buy anyone to fill it so let’s build someone who can…..NOT RANGER

  • 40 JackButler // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:11 PM

the only thing that Ranger wants is a holster

  • 41 Andy // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:13 PM

@Belfast possibly haha but he says it on every thread. There is no reasoned excuse for it just his thinking

  • 42 MacToon // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:13 PM

I’d give it to Shola for sentimental reasons……. I just imagine him in years to come having his grandchild on his knee and him telling him about his times at the Toon and how he lived the dream……. ;)

  • 43 indianmagpie // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:17 PM

certain shinings change the course of history. I still feel that had we got modric rather than spurs, we might be in a totally different level now. We had super strikers and wingers and were missing a solid playmaker in the centre and he was it. I still feel that if he was here, we would be in a totally different level now. Hope gervinho does not turn up to be a sour grape for us..

  • 44 WWJBD // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:22 PM

JB haha and a bulletproof vest brrrrrap brrrrrapour very own 50 cent

  • 45 JackButler // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:24 PM

Has anyone on here actually seen Erdnic play, or are we all going off the Dennis Wise Scouting Forum?

  • 46 thai-mag // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:25 PM

just watching thailand v chelsea, chelsea looking really sharp, toon crying out for a pacey forward, they are playing with 3 and drogba on bench,

  • 47 indianmagpie // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:33 PM

    thai mag- what about sturridge?

  • 48 thai-mag // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:38 PM

very quick but his finnishing is crap, playing on the left, does not look comfortable out there

  • 49 davybtoon // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:39 PM

erding will b our new no9 carrs wanted him here since he come to the club
my thoughts on last nyt colo was outstanding defo ryt choice makin him captain
tavernier impressed at ryt bk, abeid n vukic looked good
and i cant choose between krul n forster for no1 really like them both
and am not comfortable jose playing knowin he dosent want to b here

  • 50 JackButler // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:41 PM

Forster is to slow getting down on shots and seemed to flap at most crosses, Krul is mile ahead of him in my opinion

  • 51 Dutchmag // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:43 PM

Realistically I think Airey & Sammy to a lesser extent are still a season or two away from the premier league. I would like to see Ranger stay this season and challenge for a regular starting spot. We’ve seen how much of a handful he can be for defences already. These last two reserve games it was clear to see the physical presence he has now, something Airey & Sammy are still developing. Not to say its all about the physical side, but it allows other areas of their game to flourish.

  • 52 onepeterb // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:44 PM

This blog is Turning into Dads Army. “we’re all ford I tell you doomed” we can’t wrap the played ip in cotton wool and knocks are part of preseason. Dont panic

  • 53 onepeterb // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:45 PM

    Were all doomed

  • 54 davybtoon // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:47 PM

sammy is a winger anyway airey cud b future no9, n after last nyt i cant understand why ppl wudnt hav carlton cole hes miles better than shola

  • 55 davybtoon // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:49 PM

i dont know to hard to pick krul played twice for holland n half a prem season n forster played 2 full seasons but there both a mile ahead of harper

  • 56 JackButler // Jul 24, 2011 at 12:50 PM

The biggest thing that gets to me is we seem less inclined to give our younger players game time than other clubs.
With a squad that has been thin for the last two seasons I would have expected more of our younger players to have been involved with the 1st team squad

  • 57 davybtoon // Jul 24, 2011 at 1:01 PM

jack butler ive been saying that for years most r fans r to scared to blood n the youngsters n seems most gaffers we hav r to for me vukic, abeid, ferguson, tav, kadar, sammy, airey wud all b first team squad n maybe a couple more

  • 58 boater // Jul 24, 2011 at 1:11 PM

@davybtoon – whilst I respect your opinion and positive outlook, why is it I find myself disagreeing with virtually every comment you ever make?

We are not in rude health as you like to point out, a few glimmers of good play from the youth will not translate to first team success- look at ranger banging in goals then stopped abruptly on his first team promotion …

we do not have firepower in this team – Ba is fine as a squad puny based on his run at the hammers, arfa will play half the season – still we’re 2 or 3 more TOP players away from being ready.

  • 59 JackButler // Jul 24, 2011 at 1:25 PM

Boater where would young Shane Ferguson be if he had not been given a chance last season.

  • 60 dave 1961 // Jul 24, 2011 at 1:51 PM

my fears are starting to worry me about the failure to score goals, its too soon to start a panic but the warning signs are there, we have money and a little bit of time, but no action and we will be relegated as we cant score, and cant keep a clean sheet. but thankfully we are masters of our own destiny, at least until 1st September.

  • 61 SincerelySamuel // Jul 25, 2011 at 12:30 AM

why are we all being so negative with a few exceptions que sera sera we have no control so support the team whoever it may be and instead of moaning about injuries and ashley we shud just cheer our team and get enthusiastic cause the new season is 3 wks away we got time to sign someone…..+ give the youth a chance carroll progressed with a bit of pressure and belief so can others
