Ryan Taylor is the latest player to suffer an injury in pre-season, and that happened during the 1-0 defeat at Orlando City on Friday evening.
19 year-old Paul Dummet – joining the squad in Columbus
And Reserve team left-back Paul Dummett is already on his way to Columbus, to help shore up a squad that currently has only 17 fit players in it.
How many times next season will a similar situation arise, with the Newcastle squad being so paper thin?
It will be a much tougher game tomorrow night against mid-table MLS side, the Columbus Crew, and Newcastle will field a fairly strong side, we would imagine.
On the positive side of things, Alan Pardew seems certain Joey Barton will see out his last year on Tyneside, after news yesterday that Manchester United may even be interested in him.
Pardew talked about Joey:
“I think Joey will be here. He has said all along that he wants to stay and I want him to stay, so there is no conflict there.”
One good question to ask about Newcastle is why are maybe our top four players of last season in Andy Carroll, Kevin Nolan, Jose Enrique and maybe Joey Barton, left the club or are leaving the club?
But with Danny Guthrie, Shane Ferguson, Ben Arfa and Ryan Taylor all being injured in the first three games of pre-season, we simply think it proves two things.
One is that that the high rate of injuries that have been seen since Alan Pardew arrived in December will continue, and the second is that the squad is just not big enough for the Premier League, the hardest league in the world to compete in.
Both don’t auger well for next season, and we’d like to see the squad a lot bigger.
What do you think?
