Coloccini And Tiote Doubtful For Tonight’s Columbus Crew Game

It seems that captain Fabricio Coloccini and top Ivory Coast midfielder Cheick Tiote, are both doubtful for tonight’s game against the Columbus Crew in Ohio.

Paul Dummett – will likely play tonight

Ryan Taylor picked up a groin injury early in the game against Orlando City on Friday evening,  on the artificial turf surface, and will definitely  not play tonight.

This is what the Newcastle manager said today about the injury status of the squad:

“Coloccini’s a slight doubt, as is Cheik,”  “Ryan Taylor’s definitely out, but I’m going to play a strong side.”

After a 0-0 draw at Kansas, and a surprise 1-0 defeats in Orlando, Pardew will want to even things up with a Newcastle win tonight, and will obviously field a strong side, but Newcastle will still find Columbus a tough nut to crack tonight.

And finally veteran goalkeeper, Steve Harper, will see his first action in pre-season by being between the posts tonight.

19 year-old defender and local lad Paul Dummett, who had been on the Reserves’ tour of Holland, has arrived in Ohio, and could see some action tonight against the MLS side.

It will be  great experience for the Newcastle youngster, and he had this to say to the local Newcastle press today, from Columbus:

“It was weird,  one minute I was going shopping on a team day out, then the next thing the bus was stopped and I was pulled out and told to pack,”

“It’ll be an experience,  I was buzzing when I heard.”  “It’s a long way, but worth it to play for Newcastle United.”  “I’m ready to play. I slept a lot on the flight, and I’m in condition to play.”

We have to think after traveling all that way to join the Newcastle squad, Alan Pardew will give Paul a decent run-out tonight,  and then it will have been worthwhile for the teenager.

It will be worthwhile in any case for Pal to be called up to join the first team squad , and we have to wonder if he also got those frequent flyer miles?

Comments always welcome.

Good luck to Dummett, he has a massive chance, hopefully he can shine.

So does this mean we will be playing Tav & Saylor at CB with Gosling playing in Tiote’s place?

I don’t think this trip has been worth it. It’s too hot out there and the players are training intensely and getting more tired. This leads to more injuries + Ben Arfa’s injury too. The team shouldn’t have played on that plastic pitch either, stupid decision.

Next year they should just go to central europe like the reserve team has and just train there.

With Steve Stone, yes. Joke but its seriously becoming a concern. I’m not saying its Ashley’s fault for not signing anyone because I seriously think we only need 2 more players (3 if enrique goes). But whoever organised this trip shouldn’t be trusted with arranging another trip. Lucky tonight is the last game then the players can leave and come home to familiar surroundings and cooler weather.

It was Sir Alex Ferguson who told Pardew to come to the US for pre-season.

We’ll have to see how fit the squad is against Arsenal.

Looking from the outside, it doesn’t look like ideal preparation.

Heat exhaustion, too much travelling, lots of injuries …

Hughton’s Irish boot-camp gave us better preparation during the previous two campaigns.

Are we going to get the same responses all season whenever we pick up an injury? Its a bloody contact sport players get injuries for fcuks sake.

True lol, its getting to point where i may start betting on an Injury to a #nufc in first 45mins a safe and sure bet :p

Think is EVERY game we have an Injury atm which is getting silly for one of the smallest squads in EPL (2nd smallest last year)

But suppose if i was a Youngster on the books on nufc i would be soo happy seeing so many chances for me to get a go, not many clubs will play youngsters and we play alot of them which is nice to see, Tavanier/Ranger/Kadar/Vuckic/Abied/LuaLua/ etc..

    belfastmagpie87@

I say tour France, easier climate to adjust to, with many French players we would raise awareness of out club over there.

Someone edited NUFC Wiki page today and put

On 26 July 2011, Barnetta agreed a six deal with English side Newcastle United.

I say we tour scotland. That way there is no way heat could be used as an excuse. Also agree with Barry about the Irish bootcamps. Can’t be too bad if Real Madrid have been there 3 years in a row

What sort of strong team is this going to be if Tiote, Colo, Enrique, Ben Arfa, Cabaye are missing. Oh, and why hasn’t Cabaye been picked to play in the last two Reserve games in Holland? He’s not even on the subs bench. If he wasn’t going to play we should’ve flown him out with Dummett. Doesn’t make any sense.

I’ll be at the game tonite in C’bus. Excited as can be, but the more and more I read about the injuries and skeleton squad that’ll be used, it bums me out. Was looking foward to seeing HBA in person, but no such luck. Hope the squad that AP puts on the field will put in a good effort and get a win.

Are we gonna ave a patched up side already in pre season lol
AF said that he wouldnt make the same mistake in pre season as he did 2or 3 years ago in that his squad will play lots of minutes on the field and not just half a game as they were not up to speed.
Are our guys so much less fitter than other pros that they can’t hack it?
